First Few Lines of CSS Not Working? - html

I'm currently fourteen years, and I've been trying to learn HTML and CSS over the past month. I've gotten the hang of things and tried to make my own website. I am a huge fan of League of Legends, so I decided to make it about that. Everything is coming along beautifully, but I've encountered a problem with the CSS. I'm using an internal style sheet. For some odd reason, the first syntax isn't working. Everything else functions properly.
This is the link to my website
(Right click and press view page source to look at code)
According to css code, all listed items should be the color #0000CD. However, nothing is happening. Can someone tell me what I did wrong and how to fix it?

In the <style> node remove the HTML comment : <!---Begin CSS--->
It breaks your CSS. A real CSS comment is like this : /* I am a comment */

Remove those comments <!---Begin CSS---> <!---End CSS---> , and use the comments (/*Begin CSS*/) before <style> and after </style> (/*End CSS*/).

You made an html comment in your css. <!---Begin CSS---> should say this instead /* Begin CSS */
Besides that you shouldn't have your css in your html file. Instead in between your <head> and </head> have this <link rel="stylesheet" href="css/example.css"> where example.css is your css file.

CSS Will not change ANY colors

This is my first post and I have found many solutions on this website, but this is the first time I could not research and find the issue.
I am having a terrible time trying to change the colors of this webpage I am designing for my new business. I am unable to change any of the colors in the style sheet. For example I am trying to change the color of where it says Mr Fix All on the main page from #fff to #FF4500, after inspecting the elements I have tracked the style back to class="carousel-title" so in my layout.css I goto the Carousel-title and changed it from #fff to #ff4500 and nothing happens.
I have gone as far as changing the code for the color white to FF4500 and remove all #fff from the entire document and the color still wont change.
After some research of this issue I saw other people had anchors that "over ride" the colors, but there are not anchors, this is just a heading so I cannot find out where this color is calling from.
I even looked at the Div tag above carousel-center which has no color tags at all. I haven't been able to change a single color on this website so I am very confused!
Any assistance would be great, this is the only thing stopping me from completing this page, I cannot read half the words because they are all white.... or very light grey. I want to make all the words either FF4500 or darker gray like the heading is at the top.

lol I suck I cannot figure out how to put the code this website is throwing syntax errors I cannot believe it!
You have the right idea to change the color for the carousel-title class in your example.
As a standard practice don't edit the layout.css or other plugin files. Instead, you should create another custom CSS file.
So, for your example to change the carousel title "Mr. Fix All" color, you could create a custom.css file having your style overrides like below
.carousel-title {
color:#FF4500
}
and add it to your index.html as the last stylesheet included, as shown below
<link href="css/animate.css" rel="stylesheet">
<link href="vendor/swiper/css/swiper.min.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css"/>
<link href="css/layout.min.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css"/>
<!-- Custom Stylesheet -->
<link href="css/custom.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css"/>

Override Wordpress Theme In-Line Style With CSS

Thanks in advance for your time and assistance!
I'm trying to edit the header image on a Wordpress Theme with little luck. It seems to be an "in-line style" which I haven't encountered before. I've searched quite a bit but nothing seems to be working for me, including using important! (though perhaps I'm using it incorrectly).
All I'm trying to do is change the background-size:cover to background-size:120% so the image scales better on smaller screens. Right now it chops my face in half when viewing on mobile which is not ideal.
<div id="custom-header" style="background- image:url(http://brentbareham.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/HeaderImage.jpg);background-size:cover;">
<div class="container">
<div class="header-content">
</div><!-- .header-content -->
</div><!-- .container -->
</div>
This is the first theme I've ever edited a theme extensively. I'm using a child theme, not that that should matter, and I've been successful thus far but I can't seem to figure this one out.
So you can see exactly what I'm looking at, the website is http://brentbareham.com
Thanks again!
So long as the inline style does not have !important on it, you can use straight css !important to accomplish what you want:
#custom-header {
background-image: none !important;
}
Here is a jsFiddle that demontrates that it works.
using jquery you can override image
myscript.js you can add theme js folder
jQuery(document).ready(function(){
jQuery("#custom-header").removeAttr("style").attr("style","background-image:url(http://brentbareham.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/Image.jpg)");
})
in theme functions.php
function js_head_scripts() {
wp_enqueue_script( "headerjs", get_template_directory_uri()."/js/myscript.js" );
}
add_action('wp_head', 'js_head_scripts');
You have to use JavaScript to override inline styles. Because of the browser render order, it's the inline styles that get higher a higher importance. So in order to restyle that you have to use JS. This however will cause a reflow i.e. the page will be redrawn which looks like a flicker.
Here some good info to know.
How the Browser Works
Update
Sorry. #Cale_b is correct. the code that you show does not have !important assigned to any of the styles. So there are a couple of things.
1). I am not sure if it is a typeo, but you have a space in the HTML code that you have posted here.
<div id="custom-header" style="background- image:url(....
<!-- should be -->
<div id="custom-header" style="background-image:url(....
2). Changing the background-size to "contain" will probably give you the affect you are looking for. It will constrain the image inside of the div element. No JS needed.
3). You may want to try this.
div#custom-header[style]{
background-size: contain;
}

CSS page margin content not appearing

I'm new to CSS (started looking at it yesterday!) so this is probably a very simple problem and hopefully someone will be able to help.
I can't seem to get any text to appear in the margin boxes of a print-formatted page.
Below is a very basic HTML snippet that should put "There should be something here!" in the top-left margin box and "This is the body of the page..." in the main page area.
<HTML>
<HEAD>
<TITLE></TITLE>
<STYLE type="text/css">
#page {
#top-left{
content: "There should be something here!";
}
size: A4 portrait;
margin: 50;
}
</STYLE>
</HEAD>
<BODY>
<P>This is the body of the page...
</BODY>
</HTML>
The body text appears but the margin text does not.
My ultimate aim is to create automated test reports so I need to have identical headers and footers for multiple pages and will fill the main page area with the test data.
Thanks in advance,
Pete.
#top-left is not supported from all engines.

The generic recommendation for you would be to go through some html and css tutorials, css tricks (some methods and technics might be deprecated) or better to use official references alike MDN or official W3C.
If you find this extremely tricky for you, and you still feel the need, you may use HTML editors with WYSIWYG components, they will simplify the start for you.

How to find and delete specific row in blogger css with span tag?

My english is not to much good, and i dont know to describe this problem good.
I have some blog on Blogger and I was install some free theme. I dont want to my name (author info) is on whole blog, but there is no button to check it off, I must do it trough HTML editor.
I found and delete it from most of places on blog, but I cant delete it from some header "slideshow"
I try to find it via "inspect elements" option, to find some familiar word there and search it in html. I know to I cant build web site if I dont know main steps, but I always stuck on some stupid things.
<span class="recent-author">Alexandar Sh</span></div>
This part make me trouble, maybe I looks stupid, but I am :D . I am total amateur with this and I dont know what to do to I dont get this anymore.
screenshot
One more Screenshot
This "recent" probably activate this option to work to show slideshow (not moving images <[One more screenshot][3]>) so when I type that "display: none" option, I block all "widget"
Thanks for help!
I got idea (didnt know to that is possible) and add tag to widget part of code. (before I add this, what you add me, after first Style tag. I didnt see before to there is more style tags. So you help me both. I use tag becouse Rico tell me that, and put code what Derek gave me.
Thank you.
You should have access to a .css CSS file. That is the 'Styles' for your site. (.html is the markup/content`) etc. ~ If you can find a place that has CSS rules... you could add:
.recent-author {
display: none;
}
For reasons I'm not going to try and explain here... you may also need to add this:
.recent-author {
display: none !important;
}
Try adding this line in any of your Css files:
span.recent-author {
display: none;
}
If you don't have any Css file / don't have access to any just add an inline style tag in your html file:
<style>
code from above
</style>
This should remove your author span tag.

Help with using CSS id/class id's within MVC3

Hello all I am trying to work through (learn) MVC3 and I was playing aroudn with formatting my view using CSS. When using html / webforms have been able to use div tags and apply to that div teh approiate css style.
When using MVC adn creating the layout in my view I have found that multiple CSS styles are not being inheritted.
for example: (sorry for the image but razor syntax seemed to fail on the code cut/paste
In the above I had a div tag for certain sections. however when I used the class property
<div class="myfirststyle" >some content</div>
for each of these div tags only the first one would be detected. The remaining div tags seemed to inherit from the main body style. also defined in the main CSS file.
Can anyone point me to some information on how to setup and style div tags within a view using CSS instead of the stylel property as shown in the above image OR is this correct as you cannot directly call CSS styles from a view as they are only recognized by the page layout.cshtml or masterpage?
Thanks in advance
Update: to help troubleshoot what is happening please refer to the following
Code within the view (using razor engine)
code within the CSS
output from developer toolbar notice how first div layer attributes are detected
output from developer toolbar notice now how image div does not have a style applied
What is interesting is that when viewing the source in html you can still see the CSS tags within the DIV tags they are just not being picked up or inherited for some reason after the first node/div tag
Thanks again for any pointers
Definitely not the case. Something else is going on.
Did you include your CSS file in the view or it's master page?
<link href="#Url.Content("~/Content/YourCSS.css")" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" />
Or manually add the CSS to your view?
<style type="text/css">
div.myfirststyle { ... }
</style>
If so, have you confirmed the spelling of classes? Typos happen, and we can't see from your image whether or not you added classes to divs. Add some of your code even if you can't format it well enough :)
There is definitely something else funky going on... it has nothing to do with MVC*, it occurs when the browser tries to render it, so the problem must lie with the html & css.
If would recommend validating your HTML and CSS, this will show errors with missing closing tags or anything of the likes that can cause these sorts of errors.
I would recommend using Firefox or Chrome with the Web Developer Toolbar to make html & css validation easier.
*nothing to do with MVC directly... indirectly, sure.
Unfortunantly the error was all on my part. While I did have an error withiin my CSS file regarding the use of the position attribute within my styles. below is the updated style:
.resultController
{
position:static;
width:90%;
border: 1px solid #7C90BE;
margin:5px;
}
.resultImage
{
display:table-cell;
color:Green;
height:36px;
width:36px;
}
.resultContext
{
display:table-cell;
padding:3px;
left:50px;
color:Red;
}
.resultButtons
{
top:5px;
}
The larger problem (all my fault) was the browser was not purging teh cache on close. After dumping the cache and reloading the page the styles began to render correctly. Thanks to all for taking the time to look at this and offer your input.
