Page contents in Navbar not filling the screen: - html

Click here for image of problem
Basically I sourced the code from getbootstrap.com but the search bar and search button are not being right-aligned in the navbar. Have tried to selectively align the search option but to no avail. Would live it if anyone helped. Thank you.
Here is the code:
```
<nav class="navbar navbar-expand-lg navbar-light bg-light">
<a class="navbar-brand" href="#">Navbar</a>
<button class="navbar-toggler" type="button" data-toggle="collapse" data-target="#navbarSupportedContent" aria-controls="navbarSupportedContent" aria-expanded="false" aria-label="Toggle navigation">
<span class="navbar-toggler-icon"></span>
</button>
<div class="collapse navbar-collapse" id="navbarSupportedContent">
<ul class="navbar-nav mr-auto">
<li class="nav-item active">
<a class="nav-link" href="#">Home <span class="sr-only">(current)</span></a>
</li>
<li class="nav-item">
<a class="nav-link" href="#">Link</a>
</li>
<li class="nav-item dropdown">
<a class="nav-link dropdown-toggle" href="#" id="navbarDropdown" role="button" data-toggle="dropdown" aria-haspopup="true" aria-expanded="false">
Dropdown
</a>
<div class="dropdown-menu" aria-labelledby="navbarDropdown">
<a class="dropdown-item" href="#">Action</a>
<a class="dropdown-item" href="#">Another action</a>
<div class="dropdown-divider"></div>
<a class="dropdown-item" href="#">Something else here</a>
</div>
</li>
<li class="nav-item">
<a class="nav-link disabled" href="#">Disabled</a>
</li>
</ul>
<form class="form-inline my-2 my-lg-0">
<input class="form-control mr-sm-2" type="search" placeholder="Search" aria-label="Search">
<button class="btn btn-outline-success my-2 my-sm-0" type="submit">Search</button>
</form>
</div>
</nav>
```

You can give margin and padding to the linking icons/navigation items to occupy more space of the webpage.

Try enclose your items ul and form inside a div with d-flex
<div class="collapse navbar-collapse d-flex">
<div class="d-flex align-items-start">
<ul>
<li>...
</li>
<li class="nav-item">
<a class="nav-link disabled" href="#">Disabled</a>
</li>
</ul>
</div>
<div class="d-flex ">
<form class="form-inline my-2 my-lg-0">
<input class="form-control mr-sm-2" type="search" placeholder="Search" aria-label="Search">
<button class="btn btn-outline-success my-2 my-sm-0" type="submit">Search</button>
</form>
</div>
</div>

If you copied from the source of an example, pay attention to the source, because outside bootstrap.min.css or whatever, there's another css specific to that template. Also copy that one.

Django + Bootstrap navbar button and search field issue

I know that there are similar questions, but I tried and searched hard and didn't find a solution for my problem. I am using Django + bootstrap to complete an exercise which include a navbar. The search button is stubbornly staying below the search field.
I would just like to align them, as in this example :
Here my code :
'''
</div>
<div class="collapse navbar-collapse justify-content-center">
<a class="navbar-brand" href="#">Navbar</a>
<button class="navbar-toggler" type="button" data-toggle="collapse" data-target="#navbarSupportedContent" aria-controls="navbarSupportedContent" aria-expanded="false" aria-label="Toggle navigation">
<span class="navbar-toggler-icon"></span>
</button>
<form class="form-inline my-2 my-lg-0 col-3">
<input class="form-control mr-sm-2" type="search" placeholder="Search" aria-label="Search">
<button class="btn btn-outline-success my-2 my-sm-0" type="submit">Search</button>
</form>
</div>
<div class="collapse navbar-collapse justify-content-center" id="navbarSupportedContent">
<ul class="navbar-nav mr-auto">
<li class="nav-item active">
<a class="nav-link" href="#">Home <span class="sr-only">(current)</span></a>
</li>
<li class="nav-item">
<a class="nav-link" href="#">Link</a>
</li>
<li class="nav-item dropdown">
<a class="nav-link dropdown-toggle" href="#" id="navbarDropdown" role="button" data-toggle="dropdown" aria-haspopup="true" aria-expanded="false">
Dropdown
</a>
<div class="dropdown-menu" aria-labelledby="navbarDropdown">
<a class="dropdown-item" href="#">Action</a>
<a class="dropdown-item" href="#">Another action</a>
<div class="dropdown-divider"></div>
<a class="dropdown-item" href="#">Something else here</a>
</div>
</li>
<li class="nav-item">
<a class="nav-link disabled" href="#">Disabled</a>
</li>
</ul>
</div>
</nav>
'''
Don't know if it's a naive issue, but I am really struggling and loosing time with it.
Many thanks
This is because the form-control class in the search input enforces a display: block;.
There are several solutions, depending of your needs: you can make the input inline, you can use flexbox behavior by adding the d-flex class to your form, or you can do something like that:
<form class="row g-3">
<div class="col-auto">
<input class="form-control" type="search" placeholder="Search">
</div>
<div class="col-auto">
<button type="submit" class="btn btn-outline-success mb-3">Search</button>
</div>
</form>
(btw, you can read the official docs about gutters if necessary)
Finally, please think about giving a runnable code snippet in your future questions :)

Bootstrap 4 with Grid System (Navbar)

I have a simple question how can I create a Responsive Navbar using Grid System with default collapse here is an example about what i want to create
HTML CODE
<nav class="navbar navbar-expand-lg navbar-light bg-light">
<a class="navbar-brand" href="#">Navbar</a>
<button class="navbar-toggler" type="button" data-toggle="collapse" data-target="#navbarSupportedContent" aria-controls="navbarSupportedContent" aria-expanded="false" aria-label="Toggle navigation">

<div class="collapse navbar-collapse" id="navbarSupportedContent">

How to control the spacing/indentation of an HTML container tag?

I'm using a bootstrap navbar and I have put the contents of the navbar inside a container. With the container, the indentation (for lack of a better term) of the navbar is a little too wide for my liking. Is there a way to shorten the indentation and bring the content of the navbar closer to the edges of the browser (by way of HTML or CSS)?
Seeing the code may not be useful but here it is:
<nav class="navbar navbar-expand-lg navbar-dark bg-dark">
<div class="container">
<a class="navbar-brand" href="#">Navbar</a>
<button aria-controls="navbarSupportedContent" aria-expanded="false" aria-label="Toggle navigation" class="navbar-toggler" data-target="#navbarSupportedContent" data-toggle="collapse" type="button">
<span class="navbar-toggler-icon"></span>
</button>
<div class="collapse navbar-collapse" id="navbarSupportedContent">
<ul class="navbar-nav mr-auto">
<li class="nav-item">
<a class="nav-link" href="#">Home</a>
</li>
<li class="nav-item">
<a class="nav-link" href="#">Link</a>
</li>
<li class="nav-item dropdown">
<a aria-expanded="false" aria-haspopup="true" class="nav-link dropdown-toggle" data-toggle="dropdown" href="#" id="navbarDropdown" role="button">
Dropdown
</a>
<div aria-labelledby="navbarDropdown" class="dropdown-menu">
<a class="dropdown-item" href="#">Action</a>
<a class="dropdown-item" href="#">Another action</a>
<div class="dropdown-divider"></div>
<a class="dropdown-item" href="#">Something else here</a>
</div>
</li>
</ul>
<form class="form-inline my-2 my-lg-0">
<input aria-label="Search" class="form-control mr-sm-2" placeholder="Search" type="search">
<button class="btn btn-outline-success my-2 my-sm-0" type="submit">Search</button>
</form>
</div>
</div>
</nav>
Looks like you need .container-fluid and not .container. From the docs:
Use .container-fluid for a full width container, spanning the entire width of the viewport.
<script src="https://cdnjs.cloudflare.com/ajax/libs/jquery/3.3.1/jquery.min.js"></script>
<script src="https://stackpath.bootstrapcdn.com/bootstrap/4.1.3/js/bootstrap.min.js"></script>
<link href="https://stackpath.bootstrapcdn.com/bootstrap/4.1.3/css/bootstrap.min.css" rel="stylesheet" />
<nav class="navbar navbar-expand-lg navbar-dark bg-dark">
<div class="container-fluid">
<a class="navbar-brand" href="#">Navbar</a>
<button aria-controls="navbarSupportedContent" aria-expanded="false" aria-label="Toggle navigation" class="navbar-toggler" data-target="#navbarSupportedContent" data-toggle="collapse" type="button">
<span class="navbar-toggler-icon"></span>
</button>
<div class="collapse navbar-collapse" id="navbarSupportedContent">
<ul class="navbar-nav mr-auto">
<li class="nav-item">
<a class="nav-link" href="#">Home</a>
</li>
<li class="nav-item">
<a class="nav-link" href="#">Link</a>
</li>
<li class="nav-item dropdown">
<a aria-expanded="false" aria-haspopup="true" class="nav-link dropdown-toggle" data-toggle="dropdown" href="#" id="navbarDropdown" role="button">
Dropdown
</a>
<div aria-labelledby="navbarDropdown" class="dropdown-menu">
<a class="dropdown-item" href="#">Action</a>
<a class="dropdown-item" href="#">Another action</a>
<div class="dropdown-divider"></div>
<a class="dropdown-item" href="#">Something else here</a>
</div>
</li>
</ul>
<form class="form-inline my-2 my-lg-0">
<input aria-label="Search" class="form-control mr-sm-2" placeholder="Search" type="search">
<button class="btn btn-outline-success my-2 my-sm-0" type="submit">Search</button>
</form>
</div>
</div>
</nav>
PS: You probably don't need a .container div. Just tried without it here:
<script src="https://cdnjs.cloudflare.com/ajax/libs/jquery/3.3.1/jquery.min.js"></script>
<script src="https://stackpath.bootstrapcdn.com/bootstrap/4.1.3/js/bootstrap.min.js"></script>

<nav class="navbar navbar-expand-lg navbar-dark bg-dark">
<a class="navbar-brand" href="#">Navbar</a>
<button aria-controls="navbarSupportedContent" aria-expanded="false" aria-label="Toggle navigation" class="navbar-toggler" data-target="#navbarSupportedContent" data-toggle="collapse" type="button">
<span class="navbar-toggler-icon"></span>
</button>
<div class="collapse navbar-collapse" id="navbarSupportedContent">
<ul class="navbar-nav mr-auto">
<li class="nav-item">
<a class="nav-link" href="#">Home</a>

<li class="nav-item">

Using css media query you can adjust the bootstrap default container width. I just adjusted the max container width by adding small class. You can adjust your max-width based on your requirement.
#media (min-width: 1200px)
.small.container {
max-width: 980px; //overwritten the default boostrap width
}
#media (min-width: 992px)
.small.container {
max-width: 960px;
}
#media (min-width: 768px)
.small.container {
max-width: 720px;
}
#media (min-width: 576px)
.small.container {
max-width: 540px;
}

Increase the size of the bootstrap nav bar

How do i increase the size of the Bootstrap nav bar so that it takes up the entire screen? Right now it only takes half the screen in desktop view however it does work fine with mobile optimization
<body>
<nav class="navbar navbar-expand-lg navbar-light bg-light">
<a class="navbar-brand" href="#">Navbar</a>
<button class="navbar-toggler" type="button" data-toggle="collapse" data-target="#navbarSupportedContent" aria-controls="navbarSupportedContent" aria-expanded="false" aria-label="Toggle navigation">
<span class="navbar-toggler-icon"></span>
</button>
<div class="container-fluid"</div>
<div class="collapse navbar-collapse" id="navbarSupportedContent">
<ul class="navbar-nav mr-auto">
<li class="nav-item active">
<a class="nav-link" href="#">Home <span class="sr-only">(current)</span></a>
</li>
<li class="nav-item">
<a class="nav-link" href="#">Link</a>
</li>
<li class="nav-item dropdown">
<a class="nav-link dropdown-toggle" href="#" id="navbarDropdown" role="button" data-toggle="dropdown" aria-haspopup="true" aria-expanded="false">

</a>
<div class="dropdown-menu" aria-labelledby="navbarDropdown">

<a class="dropdown-item" href="#">Something else here</a>

<button class="btn btn-outline-success my-2 my-sm-0" type="submit">Search</button>
</form>
</div>
</nav>
</div>
</body>
you will see it in bigger screen
1. add css to body width:100%;
2. remove the unnecessary </div> (after </nav>)
maybe you should add media-query:
#media only screen and (max-width: 480px) {
body{
width:100%;
}
}
but It works fine (without media-query):
body{
width:100%;
}
