the code react below with the css should generate a dropdown menu with the switch on the menu, but it doesn't work what is this about? and how can I fix it
Css Style File:
/* Dropdown Button */
.dropbtn {
background-color: #04aa6d;
color: white;
padding: 16px;
font-size: 16px;
border: none;
}
/* The container <div> - needed to position the dropdown content */
.dropdown {
position: relative;
display: inline-block;
}
/* Dropdown Content (Hidden by Default) */
.dropdown-content {
display: none;
position: absolute;
background-color: #f1f1f1;
min-width: 160px;
box-shadow: 0px 8px 16px 0px rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.2);
z-index: 1;
}
/* Links inside the dropdown */
.dropdown-content a {
color: black;
padding: 12px 16px;
text-decoration: none;
display: block;
}
/* Change color of dropdown links on hover */
.dropdown-content a:hover {
background-color: #ddd;
}
/* Show the dropdown menu on hover */
.dropdown:hover .dropdown-content {
display: block;
}
/* Change the background color of the dropdown button when the dropdown content is shown */
.dropdown:hover .dropbtn {
background-color: #3e8e41;
}
TypeScript Code:
import type { NextPage } from "next";
import styles from "../styles/header.module.css";
import Head from "next/head";
export const Header: NextPage = () => {
return (
<div>
<Head>
<title>Lamboghini</title>
<meta name="description" content="Lamborghini" />
<link rel="icon" href="/favicon.ico" />
</Head>
<div className={styles.dropdown}>
<button className={styles.dropbtn}>Dropdown</button>
<div className={styles.dropdown_content}>
Link 1
Link 2
Link 3
</div>
</div>
</div>
);
};

Your CSS indicates
/* Show the dropdown menu on hover */
.dropdown:hover .dropdown-content {
display: block;
}
But your component is using dropdown_content (underscore instead of hyphen)
<div className={styles.dropdown_content}>

How to style the option in the select input

I want to style options present in the select input
I want to add padding for the options please help me with that
label{
font-size: 15px;
font-family: 'arial';
display: inline;
}
select{
display: inline;
padding: 5px 10px;
}
option{
padding: 10px;
}
<label for="fruits">Fruits</label>
<select name="fruits">
<option>Apple</option>
<option>Mango</option>
<option>Banana</option>
<option>MuskMelon</option>
</select>
You can't change much inside of an options menu like that. If you want to make a full customization dropdown menu then you have to make all the components yourself. I'm pretty sure you can only change the text in the option element but not the surroundings and if you can you probably have to use javascript not css
/* Style The Dropdown Button */
.dropbtn {

How can I recreate the drop down button to be able to reveal the links from the side but the button stays in the same position?

[i am new to website design, any help is appreciated]
This code is for having the dropdown button links appear in a list form, what i am trying to do is when you hover over the "More about Us", the links will show on the right side of the button
[HTML]
<div class ="Links">
<div class="dropdown">
<button class="dropbtn">More About Us</button>
<div class="dropdown-content">
Employees
What we do
FAQ
</div>
</body>
</html>
[CSS]
/* Dropdown Button */
.dropbtn {
background-color: brown;
color: white;
padding: 10px;
font-size: 40px;
border: outset;
font-family: Agency FB;
}
/* The container <div> - needed to position the dropdown content */
.dropdown {
position: relative;
display: inline-block;
}
/* Dropdown Content (Hidden by Default) */
.dropdown-content {
display: none;
position: absolute;
background-color: #f1f1f1;
min-width: 160px;
box-shadow: 0px 8px 16px 0px rgba(0,0,0,0.2);
z-index: 1;
}
/* Links inside the dropdown */
.dropdown-content a {
color: black;
padding: 12px 16px;
text-decoration: none;
display: block;
}
/* Change color of dropdown links on hover */
.dropdown-content a:hover {background-color: #ddd;}
/* Show the dropdown menu on hover */
.dropdown:hover .dropdown-content {display: block;}
/* Change the background color of the dropdown button when the dropdown content is shown */
.dropdown:hover .dropbtn {background-color: #B9DADC;}
OK, if now i understand what do you want you can solve this adding the position at the .dropdown-content.
.dropdown-content {
display: none;
position: absolute;
background-color: #f1f1f1;
min-width: 160px;
box-shadow: 0px 8px 16px 0px rgba(0,0,0,0.2);
z-index: 1;
left: 100%;
top:0;
}
/* Dropdown Button */
.dropbtn {
background-color: brown;
color: white;
padding: 10px;
font-size: 40px;
border: outset;
font-family: Agency FB;
}
/* The container <div> - needed to position the dropdown content */
.dropdown {
position: relative;
display: inline-block;
}
/* Dropdown Content (Hidden by Default) */
.dropdown-content {
display: none;
position: absolute;
background-color: #f1f1f1;
min-width: 160px;
box-shadow: 0px 8px 16px 0px rgba(0,0,0,0.2);
z-index: 1;
/*SET POSITION TO THE RIGHT AND TOP OF PARENT BOUNDARIES*/
left: 100%;
top:0;
}
/* Links inside the dropdown */
.dropdown-content a {
color: black;
padding: 12px 16px;
text-decoration: none;
display: block;
}
/* Change color of dropdown links on hover */
.dropdown-content a:hover {background-color: #ddd;}
/* Show the dropdown menu on hover */
.dropdown:hover .dropdown-content {display: block;}
/* Change the background color of the dropdown button when the dropdown content is shown */
.dropdown:hover .dropbtn {background-color: #B9DADC;}
<html>
<body>
<div class ="Links">
<div class="dropdown">
<button class="dropbtn">More About Us</button>
<div class="dropdown-content">

What we do
FAQ
</div>
</body>
</html>
I loose the fact that you want the link displayed all inline. To achieve this you have to set a fixed dimensione of .dropdown-content like :
width: 350px;
and the display of a element, like
display: inline-block;
/* Dropdown Button */
.dropbtn {
background-color: brown;
color: white;
padding: 10px;
font-size: 40px;
border: outset;
font-family: Agency FB;
}
/* The container <div> - needed to position the dropdown content */
.dropdown {
position: relative;
display: inline-block;
}
/* Dropdown Content (Hidden by Default) */
.dropdown-content {
display: none;
position: absolute;
background-color: #f1f1f1;
min-width: 160px;
box-shadow: 0px 8px 16px 0px rgba(0,0,0,0.2);
z-index: 1;
/*SET POSITION TO THE RIGHT AND TOP OF PARENT BOUNDARIES*/
left: 100%;
top:0;
width:350px;
}
/* Links inside the dropdown */
.dropdown-content a {
color: black;
padding: 12px 16px;
text-decoration: none;
display: block;
display:inline-block;
}
/* Change color of dropdown links on hover */
.dropdown-content a:hover {background-color: #ddd;}
/* Show the dropdown menu on hover */
.dropdown:hover .dropdown-content {display: block;}
/* Change the background color of the dropdown button when the dropdown content is shown */
.dropdown:hover .dropbtn {background-color: #B9DADC;}
<html>
<body>
<div class ="Links">
<div class="dropdown">
<button class="dropbtn">More About Us</button>
<div class="dropdown-content">
Employees
What we do
FAQ
</div>
</body>
</html>
This is not sure the best solution but at the moment it is the only solution that comes to my mind.
Maybe you can try playing with
display: flex;
adding it to the .dropdown-content and then working on child element

Why is my dropdown menu not showing?

So I've basically tried everything I could think off. I want to make a drop down menu from an image I'm using. The cursor does manage to become a pointer. I'm really lost to what I've done wrong.
This is the HTML I have right now:
<a>
<img class="dropbtn" id="profile" src="img/icons/Profiel.png" alt="Profiel" width="50px" heigt="50px">
<div id="myDropdown" class="dropdown-content">
Link 1
Link 2
Link 3
</div>
</img>
</a>
And here's the CSS:
/* Dropdown Button */
.dropbtn {
cursor: pointer;
background-color: none;
}
/* The container <div> - needed to position the dropdown content */
.dropdown {
position: relative;
display: inline-block;
}
/* Dropdown Content (Hidden by Default) */
.dropdown-content {
display: none;
position: absolute;
background-color: #f9f9f9;
min-width: 160px;
box-shadow: 0px 8px 16px 0px rgba(0,0,0,0.2);
}
/* Links inside the dropdown */
.dropdown-content a {
color: black;
padding: 12px 16px;
text-decoration: none;
display: block;
}
/* Change color of dropdown links on hover */
.dropdown-content a:hover {background-color: #f1f1f1}
/* Show the dropdown menu (use JS to add this class to the .dropdown-content container when the user clicks on the dropdown button) */
.show {display:block;}
Use below code
$(".dropbtn").click(function() {
$("#myDropdown").toggleClass("show");
});
.dropbtn {
cursor: pointer;
background-color: none;
}
/* The container <div> - needed to position the dropdown content */
.dropdown {
position: relative;
display: inline-block;
}
/* Dropdown Content (Hidden by Default) */
.dropdown-content {
display: none;
position: absolute;
background-color: #f9f9f9;
min-width: 160px;
box-shadow: 0px 8px 16px 0px rgba(0,0,0,0.2);
}
/* Links inside the dropdown */
.dropdown-content a {
color: black;
padding: 12px 16px;
text-decoration: none;
display: block;
}
a:hover .dropdown-content {display:block}
/* Change color of dropdown links on hover */
.dropdown-content a:hover {background-color: #f1f1f1}
/* Show the dropdown menu (use JS to add this class to the .dropdown-content container when the user clicks on the dropdown button) */
.show {display:block;}
<script src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/2.1.1/jquery.min.js"></script>
<a>
<img class="dropbtn" id="profile" src="img/icons/Profiel.png" alt="Profiel" width="50px" heigt="50px">
<div id="myDropdown" class="dropdown-content">
Link 1
Link 2
Link 3
</div>
</a>
Are you open to using jQuery?
You can achieve what you want by simply adding:
$(".dropbtn").click(function() {
$("#myDropdown").toggleClass("open");
});
Codepen Demo
$(".dropbtn").click(function() {
$("#myDropdown").toggleClass("open");
});
/* Dropdown Button */
.dropbtn {
cursor: pointer;
background-color: none;
}
/* The container <div> - needed to position the dropdown content */
.dropdown {
position: relative;
display: inline-block;
}
/* Dropdown Content (Hidden by Default) */
.dropdown-content {
display: none;
position: absolute;
background-color: #f9f9f9;
min-width: 160px;
box-shadow: 0px 8px 16px 0px rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.2);
}
.dropdown-content.open {
display: block;
}
/* Links inside the dropdown */
.dropdown-content a {
color: black;
padding: 12px 16px;
text-decoration: none;
display: block;
}
/* Change color of dropdown links on hover */
.dropdown-content a:hover {
background-color: #f1f1f1
}
/* Show the dropdown menu (use JS to add this class to the .dropdown-content container when the user clicks on the dropdown button) */
.show {
display: block;
}
<script src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/2.0.2/jquery.min.js"></script>
<a>
<img class="dropbtn" id="profile" src="http://placehold.it/350x350" alt="Profiel" width="50px" height="50px">
<div id="myDropdown" class="dropdown-content">
Link 1
Link 2
Link 3
</div>
</img>
</a>
Have you made sure to change the dropdowns CSS to display: block; when the image is clicked?
If not, try this out (JavaScript):
var trigger = document.getElementById("profile"),
dropdown = document.getelementById("myDropdown");
trigger.onclick = function(){ // on image click
dropdown.classList.toggle("active"); // toggle dropdown display
});
CSS:
or jQuery (if you have it referenced within your website):
$("#profile").click(function(){ // on image click
$("#myDropdown").toggleClass("active"); // toggle dropdown display
});
Make sure (if you don't already know) to add the above to a script tag within your <head> or <body> tags, inside of your HTML document!
#myDropdown.active{ /* if #myDropdown has class "active" */
display: block; /* make the dropdown visible */
}
Hope this helps! :-)

you can edit the css file to add your custom style when dropping down

How to make dropdown menu full width and push content with only HTML+CSS?

I am trying to create pure and simple HTML+CSS drop down menu which will open in a full width mode underneath each item and will also push content. This image and jsfiddle better explains what I am trying to achieve:
jsfiddle.net/66qez5tn
How do I do this ?
This code can do the drop down menu with HTML and CSS:
<style>
/* Style The Dropdown Button */
.dropbtn {
background-color: #4CAF50;
color: white;
padding: 16px;
font-size: 16px;
border: none;
cursor: pointer;
}
/* The container <div> - needed to position the dropdown content */
.dropdown {
position: relative;
display: inline-block;
}
/* Dropdown Content (Hidden by Default) */
.dropdown-content {
display: none;
position: absolute;
background-color: #f9f9f9;
min-width: 160px;
box-shadow: 0px 8px 16px 0px rgba(0,0,0,0.2);
}
/* Links inside the dropdown */
.dropdown-content a {
color: black;
padding: 12px 16px;
text-decoration: none;
display: block;
}
/* Change color of dropdown links on hover */
.dropdown-content a:hover {background-color: #f1f1f1}
/* Show the dropdown menu on hover */
.dropdown:hover .dropdown-content {
display: block;
}
/* Change the background color of the dropdown button when the dropdown content is shown */
.dropdown:hover .dropbtn {
background-color: #3e8e41;
}
</style>
<div class="dropdown">
<button class="dropbtn">Dropdown</button>
<div class="dropdown-content">
Link 1
Link 2
Link 3
</div>
</div>
