I have an SSRS report that has 2 parameters - vendor and years. Years is just a text field while the Vendor is a dropdown list which is generated from a query. I am trying to run this report from another report by passing in values for both of these parameters as below:
http:///ReportServer/Pages/ReportViewer.aspx?/Production/Supply+Chain/Vendor+Part+History&years=3&vendor=00046
The value of the years parameter is setting correctly but the vendor is not getting selected in the dropdown and hence the report will not run without user having to manually select the vendor.
Can you please advise what I am missing?
There are a few things you need to check.
You are passing in the value 00046 as the vendor therefore either the available values shoudl not be defined in the report or it must include 00046 as one of the available values.
When you pass in a parameter you are passing in the parameter Value not the parameter Label. So if you had a list of available values from a table something like
CategoryID
CategoryName
1
Fruit
2
Veg
3
Meat
and in your parameter's available values you had CategoryID as the Value and CategoryName as the Label and you wanted to run the report for "Veg" then you would pass in 2 not Veg .
If your parameter's labels and values are the same, then make sure that they are exactly what you are passing in (i.e. 46 is different than 00046).
Try setting your parameter type to text, even if it is a number.

I have two parameters that give a date From and To.
I have two datasets that have the dates in the same format, but use two different dimensions. They both provide, Calendar Year, Calendar Month and Period.
I am trying to pass the value of the two parameters to two hidden parameters for the second dataset. I am not getting the expected data.
For example, I am passing 2017 and 2018 as From and To, but when this is passed to the hidden parameters, I am getting back the value for previous years as well.
Can someone post how they would pass a parameter value to a hidden parameter as I am clearly doing it wrong.
When setting up the hidden parameters, I am choosing to get default and available values from the visible parameters that appear in the dataset drop down list. Value field is ParameterValue. Label field is ParameterCaptionIndented but I am unsure what this is actually doing.

If both datasets are to use the same parameter values, there is no need to create two sets of parameters and awkwardly try to pass the value from one parameter to another.
If the parameters of your second dataset have different names, no problem, the Dataset Properties window contains a Parameters page that allows you to map the dataset parameters to your existing parameters, so you can re-use the visible parameters created for the first dataset and remove the other 2 parameters that were probably created automatically.
I created a report with 5 fields in a hierarchical order:
Order Date
Time of Day (AM/PM)
Parent Name (aka customer)
Product Line
BIC Part Number (aka Item)
Each field expands down to the next level, so order date expands to time of day, etc.
I want to create a drill through report so that the user can click on each level of the hierarchy and see the detail.
This works fine at the lowest level - Item - because only 1 values from each field has to be passed to the drill through report parameter. However, when I try, for example, to drill through based on Product Line, there will usually be 3 or 4 Items within this product line. In the Go To action, I have the drill through parameter "bic_part" set to the main report FIELD value "BIC Part Number".
I have the tablix on the drill through report set where "BIC Part Number" IN [#bic_part].
I just want to be clear, I am passing a set of report field values to the drill through report parameter, not parameter to parameter.
I have tried using expressions with =Split(Join(field value),","),",") and all variations on that. I can't seem to get the child report filters to accept multiple values from the BIC Part Number field from the parent report.
I also tried omitting the BIC Part Number value in the go to report section, but it would not let me.
All of the parameters in the child report are set to accept multiple values. My data source for both reports is the same stored proc, so I can add a query filter. I would appreciate any help.
I think each sub report link needs to be slightly different.
In the subreport, each parameter needs to accept null and your query needs to look for
(FieldName = #FieldNameParameter or #FieldNameParameter is null)
This will allow you to pass the lowest possible solid value, then null for all child values.
If we're looking at the Parent_Number level, on that subreport link you would pass Fields!Parent_Number.Value and then Nothing for each of the lower parameters (Product_Line, BIC_Part_Number).
This will allow you to filter on the lower common denominator in your sub report - Part_Number for this link, Product_Line for the next one down, etc.
I've used this logic in reports before, so it does work. Let me know if my explanation needs clarification - it's Friday afternoon..
Hi I am using SSRS 2008.
My set up is MainReport with dataset1 and 1 parameter - OrderID. One of the columns in dataset1 is ShippingID.
My other report called - SubReport has 1 multivalue paramter - ShippingID.
I am trying to use ShippingID from Main report as multi-value parameter for Subreport.
I tried different threads here but mostly they are diffrent than my scenario.
How do I go about setting this up, is that even possible?
I have been trying to set it up for whole day but unsuccessfully.
In my scenario one Order can be on multiple shipments.
One of the things I tried is creating new multi-value parameter in MainReport - call it shippingIDs_sub and mapping its default value to dataset1.ShippingID. But when I try to run report I get error "The 'shippingIDs_sub' parameter is missing value" - because my MainReport would sometimes return NULL in ShippingID column.
My scenario is very much similar to this

although I sometimes get NULLs in the column used as source for multi-value parameter.
Is there any way to filter out NULLs and run subreport only for existing IDs?
In the Action where you call the sub-report, where you map to shippingIDs_sub, use an expression to pass some valid value whenever the value in your dataset is NULL.

No, you can't turn off the ability to go to a subreport, but you can "hide" it by changing the appearance of whatever your user clicks on so that it doesn't look like it's clickable. For example, in our reports, when something is clickable, we make it underlined in blue. So if I don't want to user to click it, I just make it the same font color/style as all the other text. But it doesn't stop a determined user from clicking on it anyway if they want.
I will try to explain the issue as best as I can by oversimplifying the report structure. Report one contains 1 group called ResourceCenter and then one line of totals under it. The totals are actually a group but the grouping is done in SQL and are presented in a detail group. The report looks something like this:

ResourceCenter2

From this report, I need to drill through to another report that has a bunch of multi-valued parameters. For the drillthrough, I am able to use single values for everything except for EmployeeNumber. For that, I need to be able to pass a list of EmployeeNumbers to the multi-valued parameter in Report 2. The EmployeeNumbers are not currently present in any DataSet or parameter in Report 1 but are based on ResourceCenter. So, if the user has run Report 1 and clicks on ResourceCenter 1, I need to be able to pass a list of EmployeeNumbers associated with ResourceCenter 1 to the multi-valued parameter in Report 2 in a way that Report 2 will handle it correctly.
NOTE: I should add that I have created two SQL functions that accept an input of ResourceCenter and then return a list of employees. One is a table-valued function that returns a single column of EmployeeNumbers. The other is a scalar-valued function that returns the EmployeeNumbers as comma-separated values. I then have some custom code that runs the SQL function in the background and returns the list. I have not had any success with returning a dataset that SSRS can use but I have been able to get the scalar-valued function to 'work' in the sense that I can create a field on a dummy report and see the output. I have not had any luck getting Report 2 to accept a comma-separated list, though.
This person was doing a drill-through and appears to have solved a similar problem with a multi-value parameter. In that case it had to be formatted for an IN clause.

If Report2 won't take it in this format, you might have to add a separate single-valued parameter that will accept a comma-separated string, which you then have to parse.
I'm using SSRS 2016, and my datasets are based on stored procedures, but passing multi-value parameters to a drill down doesn't seem to be an issue anymore. By default, when you select a multi-value parameter it gives you something like Parameters!ParName(0).Value which would pass just the first value. But if you remove the (0) and just leave it as Parameters!ParName.Value, it seems to be passing all values fine.
I have a report which returns list of product names and other product specs. This report currently has different search options. My users now also want to be able to search by product number by putting in multiple product numbers.
How can I add a filter by product number which is an optional multi-value textbox?
I have tried to add a multi-value textbox. The report doesn't seem to work when no values are entered. If I put one or more product number in the text box, it seems to work fine. Is there a way I can tell the report doesn't filter on the Null value parameters? Or any other idea to work with optional multi-value parameters?
Here is the setting for my multi-value textbox

I think you should trick the dataset filter by:
Expression should check to see if the parameter is blank and if so give expression a 1 else the field.
Value should do the same check and if parameter is blank set value to 1 else set it to the parameter.
But keep your operator.
Alternatively you could do this similarly in the SQL and with more flexibility and performance.
So as you've seen in your own testing, at least one value must be selected with multi-value parameters. You can't set Allow null value to true at design time and if you run a report without selecting any values it will throw an error message.
So you can't really have a report where users can run it with no values selected.
Taking a step back, what you're trying to achieve when ignoring the parameter is to include all Product Numbers by default. So why don't you set the parameter to have a default value of all Product Numbers selected? That way, users can just ignore and leave them all ticked if they don't want to filter by Product Numbers. Seems like a good workaround to me.
To do this, set the default value for the parameter using the same dataset that populates it:
All Product Numbers are now selected and users only need to take action if they want a subset of these returned.
