How to insert column in Group Header SSRS report - reporting-services

When I add parent group in SSRS report, and and when I tried to insert a column just like deptno to show the result as a deptno, it always insert deptno as Sum(deptno), while I need only deptno, how can i solve this ienter image description heressue, any body can help me please

Depending on where you place the expression and what datatype the field is, SSRS will use the most suitable expression. In your case I assume that DEPTNO is numeric so SSRS just assumes you wanted to sum the value up, it has no idea of what the data means.
You can easily fix this.
Depending on the scope of the expression, in other words where the expression is placed in terms of row or column groups you can right-click the text box, choose Expression then change the expression to either.
=Fields!DEPTNO.Value
=FIRST(Fields!DEPTNO.Value)

Expression to calculate % in a report

I am building a report(report server project) using the Data Tools. I have a column Quantity it has a Total.
I need another column that calculate the share(%) of each line in the Quantity comparing to the Total.
The expression would be: Line_1_Share = Quantity_of_line_1/Total.
I tried =[Sum(Total/Quantity)] but it does not even accept as a valid expression.
If you right-click the textboxes that contain your working 'Quantity' and 'Total' values and look at the expressions you will see the correct format.
For exmaple your 'Quantity' expression might be something like
=Fields!Quantity.Value
or if it is in a grouped row it might be
=SUM(Fields!Quantity.Value)
your 'Total' expression might also be
=SUM(Fields!Quantity.Value)
When you use SUM() (or any similar aggregate) then the scope of the expression decides what is included in the sum. The scope can be a single row, a row group or an entire dataset. If you do not specify a scope then the position of the textbox determines the scope.
So, if you have a simple table with no grouping other than the total line and your dataset name is dataset1 then your expression would need to be
=Fields!Quantity.Value / SUM(Fields!Quantity.Value, "dataset1")
The above reads .... "For the current row, take the Quantity and divide is but the sum of all Quantities that are within the entire dataset called dataset1"
If this does not help, post your current report design including and row and/or column groups.

SSRS 2012 csv export - dynamic column header name

I need to export my SSRS report to csv format. Issue I am facing is that few column header names change with country code (parameter) and I want to show the same name in my exported csv. I have gone through other related questions and topic, specifically this one. It suggested that there is a work around by setting data value to null. I have tried this by adding columns and hiding these based on country code, along with setting data value to null for that dataset field. But it did not work. I still get the hidden column in my export, with no values in it.
Can someone confirm that this workaround works or is there any other way apart from creating different reports for each country?
UPDATE: (added report screenshot and description for clarification)
Based on apporoach I have taken,
I need to only show Column 'Town' for Country A and only 'Suburb' for Country B. This is easily done by hiding columns based on Country Parameter( and works fine for EXCEL export), but when exported to CSV, both columns are exported.
UPDATE 2
Found this link which is similar to what I have been trying to figure out and looks like there is no solution which can be achieved using only one report.
According to this post
MSDN Social: Hide CSV columns conditionally in SSRS report
The XML and CSV renderers use the DataElementOutput property to
control visibility. We can select which item we want to hide in the
report, and set the “DataElementOutput” property with value “NoOutput”
to work around the issue.
Alternatively, we can add below expression to control the item’s
visibility. Please refer to the expression below:
=IIF(Globals!RenderFormat.Name="CSV",True,False)
This, incidentally, is the second answer in the thread that you posted. That answer links to the following article which explains how to do exactly what you need
Hide/Show Items Dependant On Export Format
UPDATE
It appears that you cannot programmatically set DataElementOutput for CSVs. However, according to this post SSRS - Programatically controlling the DataElementOutput property
in RS 2005 / 2008, you should be able to get the desired effect by adding a filter on the tablix directly (in addition to the visibility condition):
Filter expression: =(Parameters!DataPeriod.Value = "DAY")
Filter operator:    =
Filter value:     =true
Thereby, for the cases where the tablix is not visible, you are also filtering out all the data.
You may be able to show/hide country specific columns this way instead.
My approach would be to do this in SQL. I'm not sure how you determine which Countries require the town to be returned and which require the suburb to be returned but here's a couple of approaches that hopefully cover your scenario.
In either case, the idea is to return the town/suburb data in the same column and then an additional column that will contain a a caption that we can use as the column header.
a. Only one of either the town or suburb column in your table is populated. In this case it's pretty simple.
SELECT
Country
, ISNULL(TownOrCity, StreetSuburb) AS TownSuburb
, CASE WHEN TownOrCity IS NULL THEN 'Street-Suburb' ELSE 'Town-City' END AS Caption
FROM myTable
b. You know upfront which Countries require what and you can pass a parameter in to get the correct column. In this example we'll use a parameter called #TS and pass in either a T or and S
SELECT
Country
, CASE #TS WHEN 'T' THEN TownOrCity ELSE StreetSuburb END as TownSuburb
, CASE #TS WHEN 'T' THEN 'Town-City' ELSE 'Street-Suburb' END AS Caption
FROM myTable
Whichever approach we take you will end up with a simple table
Country TownSuburb Caption
Testland TownA Town
Testland TownB Town
Testland TownC Town
In you report, you don;t need to do anything except make the town/suburb column caption an expression something like =FIRST(Fields!Caption.Value)
That's it, the report is now nice and simple and should export without any issues.
UPDATE to method:
--
-- Dump data into a temp table
--
SELECT
Country
, CASE #TS WHEN 'T' THEN TownOrCity ELSE StreetSuburb END as TownSuburb
INTO #t
FROM myTable
--
--rename the column
--
DECLARE #NewColumnname sysname = CASE #TS WHEN 'T' THEN N'Town-City' ELSE N'Street-Suburb' END
EXECUTE tempdb..sp_rename N'tempdb..#t.[TownSuburb]', #NewColumnname, 'COLUMN'
--
-- finally get the result
--
SELECT * FROM #t

SSRS expression issue using iif function

I have a data set that is returning two properties, a name and a total units. I am trying to set an iif expression on a data bar where iif(field!Name.Value = "Name", field!Total.Value, 0)
this is not working I get an error of rsFieldReferanceAmbiguous, the fields refers without specifying a dataset aggregate. And the only option that it gives me as an aggregation is First, but I do not want to get the first name, I want the bar to display the total units base on the name field that is in the iif expression.
rsFieldReferenceAmbiguous refers to trying to match something that is not in local scope. Therefore you have to aggregate it. You are probably wanting something like this:
=Sum(IIF(Fields!Name.Value = "Name", Fields!Total.Value, 0))
The function you are trying to use would be better suited to a calculated field in your dataset. Then you can just refer that that field in your report. This allows you to filter the data line by line instead of by groups.
Right-click on the dataset and go to Dataset Properties.
Go to Fields.
Click Add then Calculated Fields.
Enter the name of the field and then the expression here.
Make sure your tablix has the dataset specified under General -> DataSetName on the properties pane. If you have more than one data set on the report you will need to specify which data set your reffering to like so:
(Fields!Name.Value, "NameDataSet")
If your useing tables you may need to ckeck if you have grouping and if so how your grouping your data.

SSRS: Get values from a particular row of DataSet?

My dataset currently has 12 rows of data. Each representing data for a month. I would like to have variance of a column between to rows, the rows being last & last but one i.e., latest month and previous month's data.
It could have been simple if I were to work on tablix but thats not the case. I want those values for a textbox.
Any ideas on it anyone?
I hope you are using SSRS 2008R2:
R2 introduced the Lookup function that is perfect for this scenario.
=Lookup( Fields!ProductUID.Value ,Fields!ProductID.Value,Fields!Price.Value,"PriceDataSet")
The Lookup function above will evaluate the first parameter ("Fields!ProductUID.Value") in the current dataset, then look for a matching value in the field specified in the second parameter ("Fields!ProductID.Value") in the dataset specified in the fourth parameter. The value of the third parameter is then evaluated in that row of the dataset and returned.
A little convoluted, but very helpful.
In your case, you can use this in a textbox with a calculated a static number:
=Lookup(
Month(DateAdd(DateInterval.Month, -1, GetDate())),
Fields!MonthID.Value,
Fields!Name.Value,
"DataSet1")
This should calculate a number for last month, then look for a match in DataSet1.
In this example I have a tablix with Statecode and name as below
enter image description here
Suppose you want to display the name of state of CA, write an expression as -
=Lookup(
"CA" ,
Fields!StateCode.Value,
Fields!StateName.Value,
"ReportData"
)
This will return 'California' in the text box
I ran across this post while trying to solve a similar problem but with columns of double data type. Not sure why but SSRS did not want to return my first row using LOOKUP in combination with ROW_NUMBER in SQL(If someone can solve that all the better). I ended up using a SUM(IIF) instead. Hopefully, this is useful for someone else.
=Sum(IIF(Fields!RowNum.Value=1,CDBL(Fields!MyNumericColumn.Value),CDBL(0)))
Note: If SSRS complains about data types, just cast both parts of the IIF to the desired data type.

SSRS Page break on Tablix with Rownumber ,just one row group and no group expression given by default

I have created a report with one tablix and it has one RowGroup (which automatically came) when I dragged and dropped my report fields. [It doesnot have any group by expression defined]
Now my requirement is to create page breaks based on the row number.
I clicked on the RowGroup properties and give Group on expression
=Floor(RowNumber(Nothing)-1/2000)
And page break "Between each instance of group "
Now page is breaking, but the problem is its breaking for every row in my tablix.
How can I overcome the same and break only at 2000 rows.
This is to avoid Excel export exception on large data.
What am I doing wrong with the tablix/group settings.
I haven't done this before but try adding another group outside you current group with this expression. Then set the page break in it.
Edit: I just re read you question. I think you expression is incorrect. I think it should be:
=Floor((RowNumber(Nothing)-1)/2000)
I couldn't understand how you could set that as the group expression and it would stil group correctly. So you will still need 2 groups:
An outside group with this expression and the pagebreak.
A details group with what you are actual displaying on each row.
