WSL install invalid command line option - containers

I want to install an Ubuntu image in WSL.
But, I get a error when running wsl --install:
Invalid command line option: --install
I am using windows 10 education, version 20H2 OS Build 19042.867.

You are attempting to work from Windows Insider documentation, which is not meant for the general public, and it says so. WSL/WSL2 is a fast-moving target.
Most people should use the Microsoft Store to install WSL / WSL2. Search for Ubuntu. Several choices will be displayed. Pick the one simply called Ubuntu, not Ubuntu 20.04 LTS or whatever. The Ubuntu package is kept current.
VSCode has current instructions for installing Ubuntu, then VSCode. You don't have to install VSCode.

Make sure you follow the official instructions:
https://learn.microsoft.com/windows/wsl/install
Crucial is the Windows version: For Windows 10, it should be version 2004 or higher (Build 19041 or higher). Windows 11 should work with all versions.
Older versions need to follow the manual installation procedure: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wsl/install-manual

Why won't MySQL 8.0.28 install on macOS 12 Monterey?

I downloaded the community version of MySQL but it won't install on macOS. How come?
Since the introduction of Apple M1 CPU, software like MySQL provided 2 versions for Apple M1 CPU (arm) and Intel CPU (x86).
Please make sure you downloaded the right version.
This works for me:
To download the MySQL Community Server, go to MySQL Community Downloads page and click Download button for macOS 11 (ARM, 64bit), DMG Archive. This will download the MySQL Community Server version 8.0. 27 file in your macOS' Download folde
I got the error below :
"mysql-8.0.31-macos12-x86_64.pkg” cannot be opened because it is from an unidentified developer."
Below steps resolved this issue on my mac m1.
Download the x86 version(DMG) for Mac M1.
Double click the DMG and it'll open the .pkg file.
Rather than double clicking on the .pkg file, right click and open the package.
I encountered the same issue. I was able to resolve it by downloading the x86 version on my Macbook
As an workaround you also could consider getting mysql from brew with brew install mysql.
I found the Solution. You have to allow it to pass through in the system setting. Watch this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W1AxFoomV0c

Ejabberd source code Installation in windows 10

I want to know the procedure to install Ejabberd from source code in windows 10. In their documentation, the installation with source code is only given for the Linux based operating system. I am struggling to find any good documentation on the same.
I think the windows installer is, in fact, compiled and packaged in Linux or other operating system. Following this reasoning, there's a way to get your self-compiled ejabberd running in Windows:
Download and install the latest ejabberd binary package in your Windows server. See what Erlang/OTP version and what ejabberd version you have.
Now, go to a development machine where you know ejabberd can be compiled: GNU/Linux, BSD, maybe Mac.
Download the same Erlang/OTP version, and download the source code of the same ejabberd version
Compile ejabberd
Copy the resulting *.beam files from the development machine to the Windows server, overwriting the originally installed ones

"No compatible server found" error came while installing mysql in windows 7

when i click on reconfigure it gives following screen
I'm trying to install mysql in windows 7 and I have downloaded mysql installer from https://dev.mysql.com/downloads/installer/
I started installing it but after some time it gives the following error:
no compatible server found.
I searched a lot for this, however I'm not able to install mysql on my system. Please give me some suggestions.
Is there any other software that has dependency to install mysql?
when i click on add it gives following screen
download and install Microsoft Visual C++ 2015 Redistributable. it worked for me
I too had the same issue. What i did was,
1- uninstall the msi community installer.
2- Install visual c++ 2019 Redistributer package (https://support.microsoft.com/en-in/help/2977003/the-latest-supported-visual-c-downloads) ([])
3- Now install MySql Workbench from (https://dev.mysql.com/downloads/workbench/)
NOTE: Download the Windows (x86, 64-bit), MSI Installer 8.0.20 35.6M
Download.
4- Now install the msi community installer that you've uninstalled in step 1
(Link:https://dev.mysql.com/downloads/windows/installer/8.0.html)
NOTE: Windows (x86, 32-bit), MSI Installer 8.0.20 420.6M
Download [For both 64 & 32 bit ] - (mysql-installer-community-8.0.20.0.msi)
Now the workbench will be added. Add the server from the installer and now we are good to go...
Thanks for the opportunity and knowledge
This error may be resolved by installing appropriate visual C++ version. for 5.7 its VC++ 2013 and for 8.0 its VC++ 2015.
After VC++ install rerun the installation and reinstall just server seperate. Configure it.
Then install any other tools like client etc,
(server installs with command line (Which was enough for my needs)
Steps:
Install MySQL Server from "MySQL Installer - Community" (already installed in your system.
While installing you would be asked to setup a server, so, just leave everything as it is and just put up a password and click next.
No after installation again you will see "MySQL Installer - Community". Then click "reconfigure" right in front of (see image in link below).
Then you will see the server in options. Just click it and enter password. (NOTE: let the username be "root", don't change it).
After doing all this MySQL will be installed.

mysql installer fails to recognize python 3.4

I'm trying to istall mysql server on a windows 7 machine - that has python 3.4.3 installed. However, when trying to install the python connectors for 3.4, the installer fails to recognize the python installation, saying python 3.4 is not installed.
Has anyone solved this issue before? I'ts driving me nuts...
Just to add to the murkiness, I had the same error with current version of MySql install when attempting with python 3.5 installed (which is the latest python download). Long story short, I uninstalled python 3.5, installed python 3.4.4 (which interestingly didn't update PATH so I updated it manually) and reran installer and it found the python installation.
So my conclusion is the MySql installer is tied to certain versions of the add-on products which in this case meant specifically python 3.4
just in case anyone else has this issue in future. Look at what bit version you have for Python 3.4. When I installed 64 bit version of Python 3.4, this issue went away.
I ran into a similar issue with Python 3.7.2.
In my case, the problem was that I tried to install the 64 bit MySQL connector, but had the 32 bit version of Python installed on my machine.
I got a similar error message:
Python v3.7 not found. We only support Python installed using the Microsoft Windows Installer (MSI) [...]
The problem just went away by installing the 32 bit MySQL connector instead.
From my experience if you have both Py2.7 and Py3.4 installed when installing the mysql connector for py3.4 you will run into this issue. Not sure of the WHY but for some reason if you have py2.7 installed, the py3.4 mysql connector recognizes that version first and just assumes that you have py2.7 installed and does not recognize that py3.4 is installed.
The only way I have found around this is to uninstall py2.7 and then install the py3.4 mysql connector. You can always install py2.7 again after the fact.
I had 3.6.X version and it could not see it; I uninstalled it and installed 3.4.0 version and it passed the requirement.
https://www.python.org/downloads/release/python-340/
Had the same problem and have fixed it. Using a Windows 7 PC and I already had multiple versions of Python installed.
Uninstalled all versions of Python from my PC
Uninstalled the failed MySQL install
Restarted PC
Re-installed Python 3.7 64-bit (the currently required version for MySQL)
Installed the Python 3.7 MySQL Connector separately through the link below
https://dev.mysql.com/downloads/connector/python/
Once that was installed, restarted the MySQL install
The MySQL Installer window will open and already show the Python 3.7 MySQL Connector in the list of products
Click "Add" at the top-right and select all of the products you want and then install them
You should then be able to complete the MySQL setup
I was looking for an similar answer. The correct answer is that there is a bug in the mysqlconnector MSI. When python installs, it creates a registry entry under HKLM Software\Python\PythonCore\3.6-32\InstallPath however, the MSI for mysqlconnector is looking for installation path in the registry Software\Python\PythonCore\3.6\InstallPath as part of the RegLocator/registrypath variable.
Use ORCA to edit the MSI, change the RegLocator so that -32 is in the path. It will install now without error or changes to the system.
I had same problem with python 3.4, all I did was installed python 3.4 version for all users. and added system variable as per this page. it worked for me!
Hope that helps.
Make sure you have the 64bit version of whichever version of Python you are running. It can be downloaded from here:
https://www.python.org/downloads/windows/
Just had the same problem and this solved it for me. I also uninstalled all previous versions of Python before running the mysql setup
I had this problem until I discovered I had installed python based in another architecture (32b). MySQL required 64 bit.
Had the same problem with Python 3.7 when trying to install MySQL in Windows 10. It was fixed by installing the 64-bits version of Python, not selected by default when going to https://www.python.org/downloads/.
I found it in https://www.python.org/ftp/python/3.7.3/python-3.7.3-amd64.exe
Here is a much simpler work around:
pip install mysql-connector-python
Is the same package that MySQL is having trouble installing. Just use pip to install it.
Next, go back to the installation style and select "Manual" instead of "Developer". They are identical, but "Manual" allows you to remove packages. Just remove the "Connector/Python" package from the list to be installed.
Carry on with the install, you're done.

How to install ejabberd community version on Windows XP?

I am a bit confused the link to use to install ejabberd on my windows XP box [http://www.ejabberd.im] ? What are the steps involved and dependencies there off?
=====UPDATE=====
I installed ejabberd windows version from link as mentioned in reply thread - but when I started the app it stated:
Starting ejabberd...
./ejabberdctl: e:\bin\erl.exe: can't execute: (14001) Error 14001
There is a problem starting Erlang.
If the error you see is 14001, you need to install:
Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 SP1 Redistributable Package
You can download that installer from www.microsoft.com
You can also check the ejabberd Administrator Guide
But even after downloading the package http://www.microsoft.com/en-in/download/details.aspx?id=5638 and successfully installing I still get the same error?
Please let me know how to resolve the same?
You could install 2.1.11 using the installer provided by Process-One here. Windows installer for 2.1.13 is not there yet.
no additional dependencies are required as ejabberd installer includes a build of Erlang runtime.
But really I fail to see what's the problem with putting up a cheap box running some free OS (I'd personally recommend Debian) where ejabberd would be installable via the OS's package manager, and will be upgraded along with the rest of the OS when the next release comes out.
