i am facing an issue with my query i store users login time_in and time_out and a column name called break where i manually enter how long user has been on break supposing an hour then 01:00:00 i store it on the break column and to get total login hours of a user i use
TIME_TO_SEC(TIMEDIFF(time_out, time_in)) AS totalhours
now from the above query how can i subtract the value i store it on break column and then show the total hours? only if break column has some value then subtract else show the correct total hours.
e.g if say users total login hours is 9hrs but then in break i added 1hr then the totalhours instead of showing 9hrs should rather display 8hrs.
here is my complete query

member_id,
username,
team,
time_in,
time_out,
break,
activity,
comments,
TIME_TO_SEC(TIMEDIFF(time_out, time_ink)) AS totalhours

TIME_TO_SEC(TIMEDIFF(time_out, time_in)) - TIME_TO_SEC(break) AS totalhours
it does gives the result im looking for. can someone tell me if its right?

you already have the session time, and using AVG function you will get a simple average for all
select AVG(session_length_seconds) avg from table_1
but you want per day... so you need to think as group by day, so how do you get the day? you have a activity_date as a Date entry, it's easy to extract day, month and year from it, for example
select
DAY(activity_date) day,
MONTH((activity_date) month,
YEAR(activity_date) year
from
table_1
will break down the date field in columns you can use...
now, back to your question, it states daily active user, but all you have is sessions, a user could have multiple sessions, so I have no idea, from the context you have shared, how you go about that, and make the avg for each session, makes no sense as data to retrieve, I'll just assume, and serves this answer just to get you started, that you want the avg per day only
knowing how to get the average, let's create a query that has it all together:
select

will output the average of session_length_seconds per day/month/year
the group by part, you need to have as many fields you have in the select but that do not do any calculation, like sum, count, etc... in our case avg does calculation, so we don't want to group by that value, but we do want to group by the other 3 values, so we have a 3 columns with day, month and year. You can also use concat to join day, month and year into just one string if you prefer...
I've just started a job and my boss wants me to learn mySQL so please bear with me, i've been learning for only 2 days and i'm not that good at it yet.
So i've been given 3 tables and several tasks to do.
The tables are:
mobile_log_messages_sms
mobile_providers
service_instances
And in them i've got to:
Find out how many messages there were in the last 25 days and how
much income did they make
Then i need to group them by day (so per day, exclude hours) and
provider name.
Also i need to ignore all the messages that have an empty string
under the service column
Also i need to ignore the messages that made 0 income and count only
those that have the column service_enabled = 1
And then i need to sort it descending, by date.
in the tables
mobile_log_messages_sms:
message_id - used to count the messages
price - using for price obviously, exlude those with 0
time - date in yyyy/mm/dd hh:mm:ss format
service - exclude all those that have an empty string (or null)
mobile_providers
provider_name - to use to group with
service_instances
enabled - only use if value is 1
I've started with:

FROM mobile_log_messages_sms
WHERE time BETWEEN '2017-02-26 00:00:00'
AND time AND '2017-03-22 00:00:00'
But i need to change the date format and then use the JOIN commands but i don't know how, and i know i need to add more to it, but i'm stumped even at the start. Also the starting just lists the messages but i need to count the total sum of the income (price) per day.

rest can't done with join so make sure that at least one column should be common in tables.
For my stystem I want to know how many times a visitor came to my shop. I got wifi sensors and they get alot of addresses and I want to know how many times the visitors came in a month
This is the database I use (time is in unix time and get fixed with FROM_UnixTime(sensordata1.time)
So what I want to get is a the address with the number of visits last month.(per day not per address so if he came 5times a day count it as 1)
You want to see March 2017. So restrict your results to March 2017 in the WHERE clause. You want one result row per visitor (address). So GROUP BY address. You want to count each day just once. So COUNT DISTINCT days.

If you want this more flexible, i.e. always the last month when executing the query instead of 2017-03 fixed, then find today, subtract a month, and take the month got thus.
I am trying to write a single MySQL query which will tell me the total number of active users in the database in week-based intervals. The 2 returned values per row should be the date, and the total number of active users on that date. I was able to get this far:
SELECT from_days(to_days(cast(u.created as datetime)) - mod(to_days(cast(u.created as datetime)) - 1 - 1, 7)) AS date, COUNT(1) as count
FROM users u
WHERE u.active = 1
GROUP BY 1;
I believe this shows me the number of new active users in each given interval, but I can't figure out how to 'aggregate' those counts to show the total number of users increasing over each time interval. Any point in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.
It's hard to say without an example of your output but I would start by making the whole thing a subquery and using an aggregate function or a calculation on top of it.

I have a set of Access d/b's grouped already by year. within a given year, I have a field caleld REPORTDATE which is a standard mm/dd/yyyy field. However, I need to produce queries that return data by the month. For example, I just want to see records for Jan, recs for Feb, Recs for March, etc., so that I can sum them and work wwith thm.
Do I use an expression in the query design view Criteria field?

You can do all of that in one sql statement:
select month(reportdate), sum( the column you wish to sum )
from tablename
group by month(reportdate);
BUT WAIT THERE'S MORE!
Further say that there are several salepersons selling stuff, and you wish to show each salesperson's sales by month
select month(reportdate), salesperson, sum( the column you wish to sum )
from tablename
group by month(reportdate), salesperson;
That shows the sum per month per salesperson.
You know the Germans always make good stuff!
What it you wanted to see the same sums, but rtaher than comparing salespeople against each other in each month, you wanted to compare, for each salesperson, how they did from one month to another?
Just reverse the order of the group by:
select month(reportdate), saleperson, sum( the column you wish to sum )

In Access, I think from the graphical Query Builder thing's menu, select edit|SQL, and just type. And never go back to graphical!

You can use format, for example:
Format([REPORTDATE],"mmm yy")
Or Month:
SELECT * FROM Table WHERE Month([REPORTDATE]) = 10
An outline of query that may suit, paste this into the SQL view of
the query design window, changing table to the name of your table:
SELECT Format([REPORTDATE],"yyyy mm"), Count([ReportDate])
FROM Table
GROUP BY Format([REPORTDATE],"yyyy mm")
I wouldn't do this in the report's recordsource. I'd make the recordsource a regular SELECT statement and use the report's sorting/grouping. If you group on a date field (one that is really date type), you get the choice to GROUP ON:
Each Value (default)
Year
Qtr
Month
Week
Day
Hour
Minute
I think this is faster than a GROUP BY on a function, but someone who was interested should actually try it.
Certainly if your SELECT with GROUP BY has no WHERE clause, it's going to be a lot more efficient if you run the report with filtered values.
