Place image next to div with flexbox - html

I have this image and this box I'm trying to put on the same line. The box is just going to be holding a header and some text, but I can't seem to get them on the same line. I'm using flexbox and I did some research into this, but can't quite work it out. Here's the code:
#container {
min-height: 95vh;
display: flex;
flex-wrap: wrap;
justify-content: center;
align-items: center;
}
.box {
height: 400px;
width: 600px;
background-color: #f5f2ed;
text-align: justify;
padding: 20px;
}
img {
width: auto;
height: 400px;
border-radius: 16px;
}
<div id="container">
<div class="main">
<img src="/">
<div class="box">
<h2>hello</h2>
<p>paragraph here...</p>
</div>
</div>
</div>
I made two divs inside the container because the image is going to be outside the box with the text.

Maybe display: flex; in .main{} can fix the problem.

You should add display:flex property to main element and flex :1 property to both child elements of main element
#container {
min-height: 95vh;
}
.main {
display : flex;
flex-wrap: wrap;
justify-content: center;
align-items: center;
}
.box {
height: 400px;
width: 50%;
flex : 1;
background-color: #f5f2ed;
text-align: justify;
padding: 20px;
}
img {
width: auto;
height: 400px;
flex : 1;
border-radius: 16px;
}
<div id="container">
<div class="main">
<div class="pic-div">
<img src="/">
</div>
<div class="box">
<h2>hello</h2>
<p>paragraph here...</p>
</div>
</div>
</div>

CSS 100vh responsive issue [duplicate]

Centered elements inside a flex container are growing and overflowing beyond top [duplicate]

I created this css snippet.
.container {
display: flex;
justify-content: center;
width: 100%;
align-items: center;
height: calc(100vh - 50px);
}
.container__img {
display: flex;
flex-direction: column;
}
.header {
background-color: red;
padding: 25px;
}
<div class="header">HEADER</div>
<div class="container">
<div class="container__inner">
<div class="container__img">
HELLO
<img src="https://cdn.pixabay.com/photo/2017/08/30/01/05/milky-way-2695569__340.jpg" />
</div>
</div>
</div>
I set 100vh to have the page 100% of page height, but appears the next issue when i resize the page vertically:
How you can see the image goes over the header, but it should stop when is near header like:
Question: Why it is happening and how to solve this?
Make it a habit for yourself to wrap all the divas in the main div:
<div class="main">
...
</div>
When this main div is absent in the structure of html, then problems may arise in the future.
I made some changes to the css. If you have any questions, then ask me.
* {
box-sizing: border-box;
margin: 0;
padding: 0;
}
.main {
display: flex;
flex-direction: column;
min-height: 100vh;
}
.container {
display: flex;
justify-content: center;
width: 100%;
align-items: center;
flex: auto;
}
.container__img {
display: flex;
flex-direction: column;
}
.header {
background-color: red;
padding: 25px;
}
<div class="main">
<div class="header">HEADER</div>
<div class="container">
<div class="container__inner">
<div class="container__img">
HELLO
<img src="https://cdn.pixabay.com/photo/2017/08/30/01/05/milky-way-2695569__340.jpg" />
</div>
</div>
</div>
</div>
When you resize the page vertically, the image goes over the header because the div "container__inner" and the div "container__img" have height: auto (by default). That means their height will be equal to the maximum height of the elements inside (here is the img).
To solve this problem, you just need to set height: 100% for one of them. Then its height will not exceed the height of the parent element (the div "container")

box-sizing: border-box;
margin: 0;

Flexbox - specific positioning problem. Content div hovering header

I've got some problems with specific element positioning. Could you give me any advice how to make it works?
It seems that buttons should be a part of content div but I don't really know how to do this. I tried many ideas but without any result.
Thanks in advance :)
My current code:
.header {
width: 100%;
background-color: red;
height: 65px;
}
.container {
display: flex;
flex-direction: column;
width: 100%;
justify-content: center;
align-items: center;
}
.item {
width: 700px;
height: 100px;
background-color: grey;
}
<div class="header"></div>
<div class="container">
<div class="item" style="background-color: red; height: 65px;">
<button>test</button>
</div>
<div class="item"></div>
</div>
I have no clue how to set div with buttons to be above header div. I tried with position relative but without success.
I know that it can be achieved by setting maring-top in container div. But is there any more elegant solution?
Well if you wanted to make a template as you mentioned above in the attached picture, I would say you won't need to define a new div above your container as the independent div and you should wrap all your header items into one division and make them flex with related justify-content and align-items, the flexbox with reacting to this as two different items that two of them (first button and header item) are wrapped into one div and the other one is a simple button (you can wrap it into another div too if you wanted) then with the justify-content: space-between they will force to the two endpoints of the division with space between them. Then you should do the same with your first wrapped items in div but in this one, you should add specific width to the division to make the justify-content: space-between work properly.
I add the simple code snippet below for more illustration, you can use it freely.
.header {
background-color: red;
padding: 10px 40px;
display: flex;
justify-content: space-between;
align-items: center;
}
.header button {
background-color: yellow;
font-weight: bold;
border: none;
}
.header span {
color: white;
}
.header-left {
width: 130px;
display: flex;
justify-content: space-between;
align-items: center;
}
.container {
max-width: 100%;
}
.item {
width: 200px
min-height: 400px;
margin: 0 40px;
padding: 100px;
background-color: lightgrey;
}
.item > p {
text-align: center;
}
<div class="header">
<div class="header-left">
<button>btn</button>
<span>header</span>
</div>
<button>btn</button>
</div>
<div class="container">
<div class="item">
<p>content</p>
</div>
</div>
If I am not getting it wrong, then you want the code of the button to be inside of container and on web page it should be shown on header. If this is what you are looking for then you can try the below code:
.header {
width: 100%;
background-color: red;
height: 65px;
}
.container {
display: flex;
flex-direction: column;
width: 100%;
justify-content: center;
align-items: center;
position: relative
}
.container button {
position: absolute;
top: -30px; // you can change it accordingly
}
.item {
width: 700px;
height: 100px;
background-color: grey;
}
<div class="header"></div>
<div class="container">
<button>test</button>
<div class="item"></div>
</div>

Use flexbox to center content while not making elements side by side

I am using flexbox to center content with justify-content: center which works as intended but flexbox also moves divs to be side by side which I don't want.
Here is an example
.flex {
display: flex;
justify-content: center;
}
.content {
width: 100px;
height: 100px;
background-color: #000;
margin: 10px;
}
<div class="flex">
<div class="content">
</div>
<div class="content">
</div>
</div>
How can I use flexbox while retaining the default one div on top of the other positioning.
You can set flex-direction: column and then you have to use align-items: center. Default flex-direction is row.
.flex {
display: flex;
align-items: center;
flex-direction: column;
}
.content {
width: 100px;
height 100px;
color: #000;
border: 1px solid black;
padding: 5px;
margin: 5px;
}
<div class="flex">
<div class="content"></div>
<div class="content"></div>
</div>
Try following code,
.flex {
display: flex;
justify-content: center;
flex-direction: column;
align-items: center;
}
.content {
width: 100px;
height: 100px;
background-color: #000;
margin: 10px;
}
<div class="flex">
<div class="content">
</div>
<div class="content">
</div>
</div>

Prevent flexbox items from overflowing into siblings

I am trying to make a one-pager site, which is working quite well. I have three sections that need to be fullscreen, that works. But when I resize the window to 500px width and make the height also shorter, the title from the second page comes up on the first page. Same thing happens with the title on the third page, this one displays on the second page.
Here is the codepen: http://codepen.io/anon/pen/jWaxMK
HTML:
<section>
<h2>Title 1</h2>
<div class="box">
</div>
<div class="box">
</div>
</section>
<section>
<h2 class="blue">Title 2</h2>
<div class="box circle"></div>
<div class="box circle"></div>
<div class="box circle"></div>
</section>
<section>
<h2 class="white">Title 3</h2>
</section>
CSS:
html,
body,main {
height: 100%;
margin: 0;
padding: 0;
}
section {
position: relative;
width: 100%;
height: 100%;
color: #ececec;
text-align: center;
display: flex; /* default: row nowrap */
flex-flow:row wrap;
justify-content: center;
align-items: center;
align-content: center;
}
section:nth-child(1) {
background: #06a2cb;
}
section:nth-child(2) {
background: #ececec;
}
section:nth-child(3) {
background: #F5E5D8;
}
h2{
margin-top:0;
font-family: 'Lobster';
margin: 1em;
flex: 0 0 100%;
color: black;
}
.box{
width: 250px;
height: 250px;
display: inline-block;
background-color: #ececec;
border-radius: 10px;
flex: 0 0 250px;
}
.circle{
border-radius: 50%;
background-color: white;
}
Any help is appreciated, thanks!
You can solve the problem by making all the section elements flex items, and giving them a minimum height.
Add this to your CSS:
body {
display: flex;
flex-direction: column;
}
section {
min-height: 100%; /* alternatively, try `min-height: 100vh` */
flex-shrink: 0;
}
