Today when I open the browser, it is strange because normally the browser should display the search frame and the wallpaper. Is it a dysfunction of the software and how can I fix it?
Problem Solved. Some malicious problem set my default search engine as Yahoo. And I switched it back to Google.

I need to be able to translate my web application into another language. I enabled the google translate extension in chrome. When I load my company website with chrome the translate icon appears and I can translate the site. I then loaded my secure web application in chrome and the translate icon disappeared. My knowledge on how the translator works with web pages in minimal at best. Any help would be appreciated as I do not know where to begin. Any links to helpful articles on how the translator does its job would also be appreciated
I also had a problem with the google translate (gt) icon disappearing from the right side of the Chrome address bar. I believe I caused the problem myself as I was trying to come up with a way to use it to switch languages quickly using Keyboard Maestro.
I keep 2 Chrome windows open with 2 different gmail accounts, and the gt icon was only missing from one of the windows. I tried many things and couldn't get the gt icon to come back.
Eventually, I was able to fix the problem based on the procedure described on this page, which suggests going to this address: chrome://settings/languages to make sure the Offer to translate pages that aren't in a language you read option is on in the Languages section, as shown in this image:
In my case, the option was already set to on. So I turned it off, logged out of the account associated with that Chrome window, closed that browser window, and when I opened a fresh browser window for that gmail account the gt icon was back.
I'm using Chrome Version 96.0.4664.93 on a MacAir (M1, 2020) running MacOS 12.0.1
I am trying to inspect elements of a Form for an Apps Script. DevTools are available on every other page I load EXCEPT Google Forms.
I have searched in the devtools settings to find a blacklisted page, but nothing is there, also there is nothing in the registry for developer tools in the chrome folder.
I have found no solutions searching the internet for this, only general solutions when devtools is completely turned off.
I will add that I recently tried to use the "Dynamic Fields" add on for forms to accomplish the task of dynamic drop downs on my form before I decided to do it myself with Apps Script. This add-on probably does not want people peeking behind the curtain so they may have disabled the ability to see their code? Is this plausible?
This not only happens in google forms but also google classroom. Come to think of it, it looks like google is doing something with disabling Developer Tools on some of their sites. Others have complained that it is also disabled on their university/educational institution’s site. The main reason for this is to probably prevent “hacking” on these sites. Quick searches on google return almost no results on this phenomenon. It is definitely on a per-website basis, and probably not because of a local policy.
Update: If you are using Google Chrome as your browser, the devtools may not work on certain google products.
NOTE: This is for when individual webpages block inspect element, be sure it is enabled in the first place!
The Solution:
Use a different browser, as it seems to only happen on Chrome. (I used Firefox, but other browsers should be fine too.)
WebGL does not work in the following three scenarios:
(for the 'test webgl' site used get.webgl.org)
1 Start chrome, Google search for the 'test webgl' site, click on the link in the search result.
2 Go to the 'test webgl' site from a link in an email.
3 Start Chrome from a short cut or command prompt, "C:\Program Files\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe" http://get.webgl.org/
This only happens when Chrome is not already running. In other words WebGL does not work when chrome starts up. However it does work if chrome is already running.
The best demonstration is scenario number 3, above. This starts chrome and goes to http://get.webgl.org/ and Webgl does not work. Then do exactly the same again but this time with chrome already open and Webgl works.
Would very much appreciate feedback or a solution, thanks.
Have also created various test sites in html, javascript and webgl, in order to find a work-around. For example if webgl is not available then allow the user to click on a link to open the page in a new tab, this does not work. However if the user opens a new tab then loads the page, webgl is detected and works.
In short, if a customer opens chrome and searches for your website (that has webgl content). Then clicks on the link, webgl will not work. It does not seem reasonable to then instruct the customer to open a new tab and then go to the same website a second time. So far have not been able to find a solution so that it just works without the customer having to fiddle around.
I realize that this may be a chrome issue as it does not occur in firefox, however am trying to find a javascript solution rather than waiting for chrome developers to fix it.
Thanks for any suggestions.

Hi Mack,
Thanks for your reply. The majority of visitors to my web site have XP and Chrome. I should imagine that this is true for quite a lot of peoples, websites.
Problem 1 The first fallback I had on my website was to detect if webgl is supported. If yes then continue as normal. If no then display a help page. This was simple and worked, however, google crawlers do not handle the javascript very well, therefore always index the webgl help page, rather than the home page.
Solution 1 Managed to fix this by having a popup box appear when webgl is not supported, giving the user a choice of whether to continue or go to the help page. The conditional code that processes the user response is arranged so that if the user is a google crawler then it simply 'falls through' and displays the html content of the home page, and not the help page.
There are lots of web sites that seem to have this same problem, including get.webgl.org, in other words, if you do a google search for a website, and that site contains webgl detection and fallback code, the search result always shows the fallback content, rather than the authors intended main content.
Problem 2 Now that I finally have the home page listed correctly by google, found that am still losing many customers, as they are starting chrome, searching google for my site 'suit yourself shirts', clicking the link in the result and being told incorrectly that webgl is not supported.
Am very interested in your solution but do not quite understand how it works. Have tried detection then page refresh or load the page in a new tab or display a link for the user to load the page, but none of these methods seem to work. Seems like quite a fundamental problem that would effect many webgl websites. Would be very greatfull if you could explain your suggestion a little further. Thanks for your help, kind regards - Gary
So i have been running into this problem with a lot of Wordpress sites lately, usually occurring when i am logged in as Admin, so i couldn't post here because no one would be able to view the problem. However, i just found a site that it happens on that doesn't require admin creds.
http://www.otisports.com/
When i visit this site in Chrome (Version 34.0.1847.137 m), it just displays a blank page. No errors, just the (what now seems standard) event.returnValue is deprecated. Please use the standard event.preventDefault() instead. warning. I have seen that warning signify problems on the site, but they are usually minor, not to the extent that the above URL displays. However, if i open an Incognito window and visit the site everything works perfectly and there is no warning. Does the Incognito window deal with webpages in a way that is so entirely different that it would cause something like this to happen?
I have been racking my brain trying to figure this out. Can anyone reproduce this? is it a bug in chrome?
EDIT: I just tried to open a bounty on this question and the EXACT same thing happened. In Regular Chrome, nothing happened when i clicked the start a bounty link and i saw various errors Undefined is not a function however in incognito everything worked perfectly. what gives?!
EDIT: Yes, i have cleared the cache, history, cookies, everything, and i still get the same errors. I cant even post a comment on this question because of errors...
I came across the same issue when trying to open evernote.com. It loaded successfully while using incognito mode in chrome. Let me share how I fixed this even though the original post is way too old. But maybe someone can find it useful.
I'm using chrome (Version 73.0.3683.103 (Official Build) (64-bit)) running on Linux Ubuntu 18.04.2 LTS.
I tried disabling all extensions and clearing browser data/cache but nothing worked. PS: Disabling adblock previously worked for me. Yes, I stumbled over the same issue before and whitelisting evernote in adblock solved the issue. But it didn't now.
The following is what worked for me:
Open developers tools (CTRL + SHIFT + J).
Navigate to Applications tab.
Choose Clear storage from the side menu
Hit Clear site data button.
After reading the comments I dug into chrome and saw there was a bunch of extensions still sitting around that were definitely malware and I thought I had previously deleted. Instead of picking through them one-by-one, I just deleted everything, re-installed Chrome, and now everything works great!
I had the same issue. My application was working in Incognito mode and in Firefox but not in Regular Chrome. I even disabled all the extensions but no luck. I eventually cleared the Cached images and files because on developer console I found out that the regular chrome was still picking up the old file due to caching. So as soon as I cleared it, my app showed up like a rocket :)
Try removing any non required extension .
Specifically AdBlock
I resolved the problem post that.
Since on Incognito , extensions are disabled, hence page run as expected.
I resolved this unforeseen issue using following steps.
CTRL + SHIFT + DEL > Clear Browsing Data.
Cookies and other site data
Cached images and files
This is for Chrome Browser.
Open Console (Ctl+Shift+I) first.
Then under the application tab, you will find some options on the left, find out the application there, you will find it at the top.
There you will find Service Workers.
Under Service Workers, there will be three checkboxes. Select Update on reload checkbox and reload again.
I had the same issue after installing React-Sight Extention.
The Page hanged but not in the incognito mode.
Try deleting any recently added or junk extension.
Delete your cache.
That worked for me
I had a similar issue in chrome, in my case the problem was that I could log in to my university library's website only in incognito mode. After some digging, I figured out that Google Translate extension was set to automatically translate any page. When I turned that off and instead selected never translate that specific page, it started working in the usual mode as well.
This is rather an old issue but still happens. None of the solutions recommended here and there did not solve the issue in my case.
I somehow noticed this is related with a -some kind of- corruption on the user profile.
This is how I solved it:
Close all Chrome browsers.
Open a Google page on Chrome.
Sign-out from Google (rigt click your profile picture on a Google page, not on the Chrome itself), and sign-in.
If this doesn't work:
Close all Chrome browsers.
Right click Chrome icon and select Google Chrome.
Delete your Google profile on the "select your profile" page.
Close Chrome.
Open Chrome, sign-in.
uBlock Origin was the culprit in my case. Once I allowed the site in uBlock Origin, pages loaded correctly in normal Chrome.
I've stumbled across something I have never seen before. I have just set up a new site but whenever I go to any of the URL's on the site browsers just try to download the source file rather than displaying the page.
I have tried this cross browser.
has anyone seen this before?
Thanks in advance,
daniel
Browser download file which not supported by it and this is browser's default behavior
