Specifying the "Region" in a Google Geo Chart does not limit the map to the given region but instead is generating an error about the requested map not existing. I'd like to limit the map to the Europe region.
Google might have changed the way it works since early version of icCube. Having a look to this Google documentation www, Europe is referenced as 150.

Background I'm a bit new to google maps/mapping sdks in general. I want to create a street by street "heat" map of an area on iOS. As an easy to understand example, let's say it will be for the purpose of mapping daily puppy sightings in a city. The data changes regularly, we need to show that certain streets have more puppy traffic than others.
Similar to the ones pictured here

And here

To do this, I would like to get a unique ID for each street block.
Something like this:
Question: How can I tell when a user entered a unique street? How can I get a unique street ID?
Related side question: If it's not possible in google maps, links to doing it in OpenStreetMap or Mapbox would be appreciated.

Partial solution OSM
This should be doable with OSM data.
Retrieve the streets around you (e.g. using Overpass API and the around query). Determine the way you are currently driving on, then split it at each intersection node. Now you have street segments similar to your second image. The start and end node ID of each segment could be used as (temporary¹) identifier.
¹ temporary, because IDs in OSM can change eventually.
I have seen google showing polygon lines for locality in a map. eg: https://www.google.co.in/maps/place/Koramangala,+Bengaluru,+Karnataka/#12.9354922,77.6146828,14z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m5!3m4!1s0x3bae144ed898fc2d:0x1681f38e8c00ae56!8m2!3d12.9279232!4d77.6271078
I wanted to know how google gets this data. Do they use any kind of mapping of images to the government data available in the countries in the world. I dont think all the countries provide data (lats, longs) at such granular level.
Right now this feature is unavailable for Google Maps API. But there is a feature request on Google's Issue Tracker that you can star and comment on.
Here's the link:

There are workarounds for this though where you get the data elsewhere and draw the polygons yourself.
Here's the link to that:
Google Maps how to Show city or an Area outline
I am developing an app that displays the Distance & path between 2 distances. In this case I have used following addresses:
Source: Major Bhola Ram Enclave
Destination: Ring Road Mall, Sector 3, Rohini, New Delhi, Delhi
When I use Directions API then I get following result, see image below:
But, when I search these addresses in Google Maps then I get different Result.
Click here to see Google Maps result
I searched a lot about this but I couldn't find any reason/solution for this.
Please guid me in right direction.
Thanks.
Those are not addresses, they are places. If you want a similar result to Google Maps, you need to use the placeId or the coordinates returned for that place from the places service in the directions request.
http://www.geocodezip.com/v3_example_geo2.asp?addr1=Major%20Bhola%20Ram%20Enclave&addr2=Ring%20Road%20Mall,%20Sector%203,%20Rohini,%20New%20Delhi,%20Delhi&place=1&place=2
(uses the results from the place service)
I am new to google geocode API but I am planning to use the free version to get map coordinates for nearby golf courses. I started with my home course:
http://maps.google.com/maps/api/geocode/json?address=Karlstad+golfklubb
Plus "&key=[my generated api key]"
I get a result with status="OK" but the resulting long/lat is not correct. It's near but misses with 7-8km.
When I use maps.google I get correct location. Searched for "Karlstad golfklubb".
https://www.google.se/maps/place/Karlstad+Golfklubb/#59.4346545,13.5140563,17z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m2!3m1!1s0x465cb41aca8c1467:0x64836d18f18df2f6
Why do I get different geo locations when using the same keywords. Do they operate on different databases or do I need to enter more params?
I also tried with other nearby courses like "sommarro" and "bryngfjorden" but for they I get zero result. But no problem finding them in google maps.
If you look at the JSON code, they describe the formatted_address as
"formatted_address" : "Karlstad Golfbanan Jako, 652 30 Karlstad, Sweden"
Which if you enter into Google Maps shows the correct longitude and latitude in the JSON.
https://www.google.com/maps/place/Karlstad+Golfbanan+Jako,+Sweden/#59.3602394,13.472185,17z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m2!3m1!1s0x465cb23bc0f46911:0x66ceae446bdc95dc
I am using Google's reverse geocoding functionality with the maps api v3 to retrieve postal addresses for latitude longitude (when dragging a marker around a map).
This is a UK application only, and part of the system requires a full, or near full, postcode to process correctly. However the reverse geocoder regularly returns just the part of the postcode - for example "GU3", even when the actual address returned appears to be complete - for example including street and house number.
Is there anyway, preferably google but otherwise if not, of 'snapping' the address to the nearest full postcode?
I'm aware similar functionality exists for snapping to the nearest panorama view, but there appears to be no equivalent for postcode.
The UK post code database is available for download from the Ordnance Survey open data
www.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/opendata
Alternatively you can use a service like uk-postcode.com to return the closest post codes to a location
See the example at https://google-developers.appspot.com/maps/documentation/javascript/examples/geocoding-reverse
Try a UK location like 51.436951, 0.058112.
The results include an address_component of postal_code, "SE9 3AG".
It may be necessary to geocode the address you're given and then reverse-geocode the results in order to get the postcode. But it is possible.
