I have tried to use a bootstrap search box in my code that is supposed to be rendered like this:
But for some reason it does not render correctly in my layout which is something like this:
Here is my html code for this basic layout. Is there anything I can do so the button renders corrctly on the search box?

You can check the below code. or below youtube link for the better explanation:

Only fontawesome library was missing.
I have added one more search box. try to add submit button instead of adding span tag. This is the best practice.

I don't know if you missed this point, but you didn't include the "fontAwesome" CDN link. You need to use it to display the search icon. I also interpreted some of your code to create the image. You can check it.
And if you want search input to cover the entire line, you should use col-lg-12 instead of col-lg-3. The Bootstrap grid system uses a 12 column system. You must know that. https://getbootstrap.com/docs/4.4/layout/grid/
I used bootstrap's own classes to set border and icon background color. warning color for your situation
<link rel="stylesheet" href="https://stackpath.bootstrapcdn.com/bootstrap/4.4.1/css/bootstrap.min.css" integrity="sha384-Vkoo8x4CGsO3+Hhxv8T/Q5PaXtkKtu6ug5TOeNV6gBiFeWPGFN9MuhOf23Q9Ifjh" crossorigin="anonymous">

<div class="row" id="secondRow">

<h4>Search for a city:</h4>
<div class="input-group md-form form-sm form-2 pl-0">

<div class="input-group-append">
<span class="input-group-text amber lighten-3 bg-warning" id="basic-text1">

</span>
</div>
</div>
</div>
<!-- <div class="col">

</div> -->
</div>
</div>
First try changing fa fa-search in order to the icon display.
in this line => idk if u can use amber try using bg-warning (this is bootstrap), but if you want the exact color i would use css.
and maybe it is grey because the icon is not there.

How can I center a div vertically in bootstrap 5?
It should be aligned in the middle between of content before the div and the screen end.
Tried this:
<div>some content</div>
<div class="d-flex flex-column min-vh-100 justify-content-center align-items-center">
<div>div that should be centered</div>
</div>
It makes the pages longer than it actually is. The div doesn´t looks centered.
You can do it like this:
Wrap everything with one div that has 100% screen width and height.
Use flex-grow-1 for the second div so it takes the remaining height and center everything inside.

I'm working on a responsive web app in Bootstrap 4 and use cards with images on one of the pages. Everything works fine through any window resizing on a desktop view; however, when I view them on mobile the card image height is completely off and about half the size of what it should be.
Here's the HTML:
<div class="container">
<header class="jumbotron">
<div class="container">
<h1>By The Numbers.</h1>
<p>View our growing database:</p>
<p>
<a class="btn btn-primary btn-large" href="/players/new">Add New Player</a>
</p>
<p>
<form action="/players" method="GET" class="form-inline">
<div class="form-group">
<input type="text" name="search" placeholder="Player Search..." class="form-control">
<input type="submit" value="Search" class="btn btn-default">
</div>
</form>
</p>
</div>
</header>
<div class="row text-center">
<div class="col-lg-3 col-md-4 col-sm-6 mb-4">
<div class="card">
<img src="https://t3.ftcdn.net/jpg/02/12/43/28/240_F_212432820_Zf6CaVMwOXFIylDOEDqNqzURaYa7CHHc.jpg" id="playerCardImage" class="card-img-top" alt="Name">
<div class="card-body">
<h5 class="card-title">Name</h5>
<h5 class="card-title">Detail</h5>
More Info
</div>
</div>
</div>
</div>
The below CSS was added to ensure the cards all remain the same height, but this seems to cause the issue where the image is extremely small on mobile.
CSS:
#playerCardImage {
width: 100%;
height: 15vh;
object-fit: cover;
}
A codepen with the card example can be found here: https://codepen.io/franchise/pen/MWaoXOp.
Detail:
Cannot replicate sizing issue with Chrome Dev Tools mobile view, it only shows what I would expect the card to look like on mobile
To recreate the issue, view the Codepen on mobile to see the image is about half of the size compared to viewing the Codepen on a desktop
What am I missing here? Thanks in advance for the help.
Instead of creating a style based on id, can try to create the style based on class card-img-top.
.card-img-top {
width: 100%;
height: 150px;
object-fit: cover;
}

You should use height in percent
#playerCardImage {
width: 100%;
object-fit: cover;
}
#media all and (max-width:768px){
#playerCardImage {
width: 100%;
height: 110px;
object-fit: cover;

use this class to make the image responsive in bootstrap 4 class="img-fluid"
if the image is very small in width and still you want to make it to fit the grid then give image width 100%, you can use this class too "w-100" in BS4
have a look on my fiddle and tell me if that's why you are looking for.

img-fluid is the answer you are looking for. As a side note, as of Bootstrap 4, there is no reason to use "col-sm col-md col-lg col-xl" etc, just use col- and it will adjust to the screen size automatically.
I am trying to give border to div with bootstrap 4 border. With only border property it is appearing weird while with other properties no border is showing up. Please find the code snippet below.
I have tried with the beta 2 version also.
Let me know if I am missing something.

For bootstrap border to work, you have to add the border class. So for example, when you write <span class="border-right-0"> It is stating that no border should be to the right. You haven't stated a border to begin with though so no border is going to show. What you need to do is <span class="border border-right-0">.
It's the Subtractive border so first, you will need a border so you need to include the border class first.
<span class="border border-top-0"></span>
To see it in more effect try this:
<span class="border border-top-0 p-2 border-primary">Border</span>
Using contextual classes and padding utilities you can easily get the difference.
Hey you just need to add some classes for showing the border i.e. border border-primary, border border-secondary etc.
And class "border border-0" means no border.
In class="border border-light", "border-light" is another contextual border color.
Below are useful classes:
A list of contextual border color you can use the below classes:
border-primary
border-secondary
border-white
border-dark
border-light
border-info
border-warning
border-danger
border-success

I have the following code and I am not sure why bg-info doesn't work for the whole body as I am new to bootstrap.
<!--http://v4-alpha.getbootstrap.com/getting-started/introduction/-->
<!DOCTYPE html>
<html lang="en">
<head>
<!-- Required meta tags always come first -->
<meta charset="utf-8">

</head>
<body class="bg-info">
<div class="container text-xs-center">
<h1 class="display-1">Fullstack Conference</h1>
<p class="lead">Coming soon!! A one day conference about all things Javascript!!</p>
</div>
<div class="col-lg-6 col-lg-offset-3">
<div class="input-group">
<input type="text" class="form-control" placeholder="Enter your Email for info...">
<span class="input-group-btn">
<button class="btn btn-secondary" type="button">Sign Up!</button>
</span>
</div>
</div>
</div>
<!-- jQuery first, then Bootstrap JS. -->
<script src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/2.1.4/jquery.min.js"></script>

Here's what I see:
Note: According to this video it should work though https://teamtreehouse.com/library/bootstrap-4-basics/getting-to-know-bootstrap-4/enhancing-the-page
You are using the alpha 4 of bootstrap(js), use bootstrap 3.x.
Also you have an extra </div> in the code.
This works:
<!--http://v4-alpha.getbootstrap.com/getting-started/introduction/-->
<!DOCTYPE html>
<html lang="en">
<head>
<!-- Required meta tags always come first -->
<meta charset="utf-8">
<meta http-equiv="x-ua-compatible" content="ie=edge">

</head>
<body class="bg-info">
<div class="container text-xs-center">
<h1 class="display-1">Fullstack Conference</h1>
<p class="lead">Coming soon!! A one day conference about all things Javascript!!</p>
</div>
<div class="col-lg-6 col-lg-offset-3">
<div class="input-group">
<input type="text" class="form-control" placeholder="Enter your Email for info...">
<span class="input-group-btn">
<button class="btn btn-secondary" type="button">Sign Up!</button>
</span>
</div>
</div>
</body>
<!-- jQuery first, then Bootstrap JS. -->
<script src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/2.1.4/jquery.min.js"></script>
<script src="https://maxcdn.bootstrapcdn.com/bootstrap/3.3.6/js/bootstrap.min.js" integrity="sha384-0mSbJDEHialfmuBBQP6A4Qrprq5OVfW37PRR3j5ELqxss1yVqOtnepnHVP9aJ7xS" crossorigin="anonymous"></script>
</html>
What do you mean by doesn't work for the whole body? Try to add this CSS property to your custom CSS:
.bg-info {background: #5bc0de!important;
}
