Pentaho Data Integration uses mysql-connector-java-5.x.xx-bin.jar to connect MySQL for example mysql-connector-java-5.1.49-bin.jar and you can download MySQL driver from here also you can find PDI's JDBC Drivers Reference from here

Cannot connect MySQL Server to Netbeans

I can't connect to my database using the "new connection" option by right-clicking on Databases in the services tab. I get the following error:
Error Image
Here is information about the server to help with a solution:
Server info
Additional server info
The password I have saved in keychain for the server is "password1" and the connection isn't working even though I entered that.
Ok I finally figured it out. I had to update the MySQL connector driver for Netbeans. I had version "mysql-connector-java-5.1.23-bin" installed and needed to add the new driver "mysql-connector-java-8.0.18.jar" to match the version of MySQL Workbench that I have.

Connecting Pentaho to mysql database (localhost)

I download last version of MySQL jdbc connector (mysql-connector-java-8.0.13) and I put it in the following folders:
C:\Users\maria\Desktop\report-designer\report-designer\lib
and
C:\Users\maria\Desktop\report-designer\report-designer\lib\jdbc
And it shows me the following error:
Driver class 'org.gjt.mm.mysql.Driver' could not be found, make sure the 'MySQL' driver (jar file) is installed.
org.gjt.mm.mysql.Driver
org.pentaho.di.core.exception.KettleDatabaseException:
Error occurred while trying to connect to the database
While, when I introduced the old version file (mysql-connector-java-5.1.34-bin) at the same folders as said before (above). Pentaho shows me the following error:
Error connecting to database: (using class org.gjt.mm.mysql.Driver)
Could not create connection to database server.
org.pentaho.di.core.exception.KettleDatabaseException:
Error occurred while trying to connect to the database
can someone help me?
Thank you!
Finally I manage to solve the error.
I put my jdbc connector (mysql-connector-java-8.0.13) into the following folder:
C:\Users\maria\Desktop\report-designer\report-designer\lib an
And I change the name of my MySQL DB.
Thank you
Stop Report Designer
Remove it from the 'C:\Users\maria\Desktop\report-designer\report-designer\lib\jdbc' directory
Restart Report designer
You can only have one jdbc driver in the lib directory for the db. So when you add the 5.1.34 driver, you are adding a second MySQL driver, causing that second error.

Cannot connect to MySql database from Eclipse : java/sql/SQLException

I have set up a database with MySql.
I want to connect to it from Eclipse.
I followed the same steps as mentioned in this link:
https://www.zkoss.org/wiki/Setup_MySQL_DB_in_Eclipse
So I am using this library for the driver:
mysql-connector-java-5.1.45
whhich I think is correct
The name of my database is "test" and the port used by MySql is 3306.
This is my configuration:
But when I test the connection it's giving me an error message :
"An internal error occurred during: "Ping server job". java/sql/SQLException"
I have looked more in details in the error log and I see error like this:
java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: java/sql/Connection
I have turned off my firewall just to check, but it does not solve the issue.
Can someone tell me what I should check?
Thanks
I use Java version 1.7.0_80 and Eclipse Mars.2 Release (4.5.2).
I gave up and used MysQL Workbench which meets my needs.

Pentaho connecting to MySQL database

I am working on Pentaho Data Integration tool version 7.1. I am trying to connect to a database using 'Table Input' step. but when I test the connection in this step in Pentaho it is giving me the below error message. I am able to connect to DB using the MySQL workbench (MySQL is 5.7). I have placed the 'mysql-connector-java-5.1.23-bin.jar' file in the lib folder. My Java is 1.8.0-131; I am using Windows 10.
Error connecting to database [mydb] :org.pentaho.di.core.exception.KettleDatabaseException:
Error occurred while trying to connect to the database
Error connecting to database: (using class org.gjt.mm.mysql.Driver)
Unknown database 'mydb'
Make sure your pentaho version supports mysql connector .if it is not, download the required version and paste -> extract the file and paste it in the
\pdi-ce-8.2.0.0-342\data-integration\lib
After that open spoon.bat goto menu ->tool->marketplace ->install
mysql plugin
Restart pentaho after installing mysql plugin.
then try connecting to mysql .Hope it will solve your issue
It looks like the JDBC does not find your database. It may come from a typing mistake in the name, password, that the user has not enough grant,...
To debug use the test button on the bottom of the new connection button:

Why am I unable to connect Sql server 2008 R2 from tibco BW?

When I'm trying to connect to sql server from tibco JDBC connection getting the following errors.
For com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerDriver
BW-JDBC-100034 "Configuration Test Failed. Exception [com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerException] occurred. com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerException: Software caused connection abort: recv failed"
and for tibcosoftwareinc.jdbc.sqlserver.SQLServerDriver
BW-JDBC-100033 "Configuration Test Failed. Failed to find or load the JDBC driver: tibcosoftwareinc.jdbc.sqlserver.SQLServerDriver"
I've placed the jar files in C:\tibco\tpcl\5.7\lib folder and also tried by placing the jar files in C:\tibco\tpcl\5.7\jdbc folder.
Can any please let me know how to solve this problem?
you should put the jar files in tibco bw/lib folder.
For me its C:\tibco\bw\5.10\lib
Additionally if you want to connect ms sql server using windows authentication then you also have to keep windows/system32 folder or add to class path.
Your JDBC drivers should be placed in:
C:\tibco\tpcl\5.7\jdbc
You must create the jdbc folder if it doesn't exist.
I had the same problem and Its resolved now.
First - Check If you are able to connect to a different Sql server using the JDBC connection in Tibco designer. If yes - there is an issue with the Sql server in your machine.
You should upgrade to Sql Server 2008 Service Pack 2. I did, restarted my Sql server and was able to connect. Download it from here. Also you need to make sure you have the jdbc folder in your C:\tibco\tpcl\5.7\ and you have the corresponding class path tibco.env.STD_CP_EXT in the designer.tra.
Just FYI, a relevant fix is in in SP2 patch:-
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2653857
FIX: You cannot connect to SQL Server by using JDBC Driver for SQL Server after you upgrade to JRE 6 update 29 or a later version
