I have a MySQL table which contains val_type column which have 3 type of values
id val_type company
1 rib 1
2 mod 2
3 rib 2
4 rib 3
5 mod 1
6 trop 1
$res= SELECT SUM(val_type) from tabl_name GROUP BY company;
with above query I get sum of all types in one
Result Required : Rib=3, mod=2 and trop=1
I want to get sum of all three types with one MySQL query. like how many rib,mod and trop.

It sounds like you want to count all three types. You only need a basic GROUP BY query:
SELECT
val_type,
COUNT(*) AS cnt
FROM tabl_name
GROUP BY
val_type;

It is not clear why your table is called store. Shouldn't you have a table with that name that has one row per store?
In any case, probably the simplest method for getting the 0 counts is conditional aggregation:
select store, sum(level = 4) as level4
from store
group by store;

as in Excel, but what I need is the equivalent for MS Access.
You can use Top n function to limit the result set in Access. That would be
SELECT Top 4 columnId
From YourTable
Order by ColumnId Asc;
This will return 4 rows ordered by your columnId from a-z.
Combining this with a sum function, you can caculate the total values of returned result.
i.e.
Select
SUM(T2.ColumnId)
From
(Select Top 4 ColumnId From YourTable Ordered By ColumnId) As T2;
This will sum the columnId value from the 4 rows.
note: you are taking 4 rows and adding them together, not columns.
I have row and column locations of several students.
Assuming number of rows and columns are fixed (to 3x3), how can I have a query result listing all row and column combinations, with students mapped to the correct location?

First of all, you need to know that Mysql haven't a implicit generator of N numbers of rows, like other RDBMS have, but you can emulate this using something like this:

But for a first approach to resolve your problem, you can try this:

Whatever, it seems like you have a schema problem, something wrong it happens that you need generate data in this form in Mysql, maybe you prefered make it in your app if is the case.

I have to select only that rows, which row's products column contains one of (2,3) values.
In this case query must return:

But I don't understand how to make construction of this query.

select * from TABLE_NAME where products regexp "(^|,)[23](,|$)";
Its doing either two or three at the begining, or at end. Or in between the commas.
Never, never, never store multiple values in one column.
Like you see now this will only give you headaches. Normalize your table. Then you can select normally.
Your table should look like this
id product
-- -------
5 1
5 2
5 3
6 2
6 4
6 5
...
With that table structure your select would be
select id
from your_normalized_table
where product in (2,3)
group by id
having count(distinct product) = 2
That query can make use of indexes and is really fast.

I tried the following query in MySQL:

But in Column 2 of the final result I get only first link instead of two links for row 1. How can I get both links or any number of links entered by user in a single row ?
Words and Links have VARCHAR as type and frequency has INT type.
If you want to collapse several rows into one and still be able to see the information, you have to use GROUP_CONCAT

This outputs the collapsed values separated by commas, i.e.: a string. In your programming language you can split this string if you need individual values.
Your query would look somehow like this
SELECT keyword, GROUP_CONCAT(links), SUM(frequency)

GROUP BY keyword

Your query looks a little bit confusing to me. Try with a JOIN approach:
SELECT domain_link_results.word AS word,
GROUP_CONCAT(domain_link_results.links) AS domain_links,
domain_link_results.frequency + sub_link_results.frequency AS total_frequency
FROM domain_link_results
INNER JOIN sub_link_results
ON domain_link_results.word = sub_link_results.word
WHERE domain_link_results.word = "national"
GROUP BY domain_link_results.word
On the other hand, it might be better to have all the links in the same table, and an extra field to determine if it's a domain link or a sublink. Without knowing more about your system it is hard to say.
