Two different Autodesk Forge apps are running same code - autodesk-forge

Please, it looks to me that I am asking a very basic question; however I could not find an explanation yet. I used .NET and both exercises for view models and modify models work great individually. I mean that I found no problems testing view models when this one was the only example available or modifying models when this one was the only example available. However, when both examples are available, doesn't matter which was the example selected and executed from inside Visual Studio that always goes to modifying models. Please notice that I created two different apps (obviously with different ClientId and secret key). Maybe not quite a good understanding of Autodesk Forge apps? Any help to understand what is going on?
Thank you very much!

If the two projects are in one solution you can specify which one to run as the default project as well as several projects at once and their order - see here and here...
Looks like this is rather a question on VS than Forge so I'd suggest to remove the autodesk-forge tag...

Create Series of Families On a Selected Path In Revit Using Dynamo

I’ve started exploring dynamo for a while now and quite enjoying its power. I’ve started work on a project, I’m wondering if someone would like to share their expert views on how do I create series of families from one starting point to other. See the following image to understand it visually. I’m sure we can achieve such functionality via Dynamo. Appreciate any help. Thank you.

Autodesk Forge randomly loses object and room information

I'm using Autodesk Forge to integrate with our remodeling tool. In particular, I need to count objects of different families and types and determine to what room they actually belong. I use Model Derivative API for this purpose. To keep the room/area information I convert .rvt files to .nwc files as suggested here. However, when I retrieve data with GET /modelderivative/v2/designdata/{urn}/metadata/{guid}/properties I face the following problems from time to time:
Room information sometimes disappears from Objects for some reason
Objects disappear from result data for some reason (but they seem to exist when I browse them in A360)
I have no idea, what can be the reason for this.
I have no explanation for the disappearance of room data or objects for you.
If you can provide a reproducible case demonstrating that, I will gladly pass it on to the development team for analysis.
If you are interested in an immediate reliable solution and full control, which I assume is the case, I would suggest following the second bullet item in the advice provided by Eason in the previous answer that you refer to above:
Extract all the room information and object relationships you are interested in via the Revit API, store that data somewhere yourself, and use it later on wherever you like to your heart's content.
Then you will be completely safe and independent of all other components and their unpredictable behaviour.
If the only information that you need is the room containing each family instance, I can even implement a suitable Revit add-in for you.
Another suggestion that might help, if that is indeed the data you require: determine that information in a Revit add-in and attach it to each family instance in your own personal shared parameter. That will ensure that it remains intact through the translation process. Afaik, all shared parameter data is retained, independent of other behaviour.

How do I extend this Netbeans JSF2 CRUD example to have a single create and edit form for all entities?

I recently discovered this very useful Netbeans tutorial for creating a simple JSF 2 CRUD application http://netbeans.org/kb/docs/web/jsf20-crud.html. The final product has somewhat limited usability as one is confronted with a myriad of web pages. I would like an example of how to consolidate the Create and Edit forms (using the same project if possible). This seems more in keeping with how a person would actually enter such information and would reduce the risk of data entry mistakes. Why enter a client and their billing address on separate screens? One should be able to add or remove addresses, if need be, on the client's edit form. Or if a new client has multiple addresses, enter them all on the client's create form. The application just seemed incomplete with no further tips on how to improve it. If one has knows of a useful book that covers this, then I would gladly read that as well. Thanks.
I didn't realize the complexity of my problem and found that I couldn't get what I needed using JSF2 with the information resources available. Through my searches, I also found that many others were asking about Master-Detail CRUD applications, which I then learned was what I needed, but in slightly different ways and not getting any solid examples. A problem properly stated is half solved and I didn't know the problem statement. Armed with more knowledge, I was shocked to find that the answers were not readily available outside of some videos on YouTube showcasing Oracle ADF. In the end, I was able to quickly build the application I desired using the Play! Framework. In a way, by not having my question answered I was able to find a solution that would prove to be a better fit for my needs; though I would have gladly bought a cookbook if someone had pointed one out.

Reverse engineering to get answers

So I've spent the last few days looking for a way to create a simple image drawing app with wxPython, and I think the key to doing just that is understanding how to use Device Contexts. The problem is that the wxPython demo program doesn't demonstrate DCs, and the docs for both wxPython and wxWidgets don't explain as much as I'd like to know so I've decided to try and 'reverse engineer' an existing app to see how its done.
The first problem I have is that I don't know of any drawing apps written in wxPython (or any written in Python for that matter o.o), and the second is I don't know how I'd go about doing it. Am I right in saying that I'm going to need a copy of an application's Python source and something like Winpdb? What do professional programmers do when they find themselves in a situation like mine, needing answers that the docs don't provide?
If you need to understand the concepts, but the docs don't cut it, it's worth it to look at docs for similar APIs. In the case of drawing contexts, there are a lot of similar APIs in other languages. Java has Swing for instance.
Reverse engineering is easier in tools that aren't big event-driven GUI things. The converse is that event-driven GUI things tend to copy each other, so you only need to figure them out once or twice before they all make sense.
In .NET world, I have Reflector as indispensable tool.
In my company, we use to program SharePoint websites. There are many "gotchas" we just figure out by reverse engineering that product assemblies, exactly because documentation is plain wrong, just missing or simply doesn't exists.

How do you database access (I/O) to/from Magento Commerce?

So, I want to import, export and modify the database. I have read that I have to do that by XML, but I don't really understand their doc system and I haven't found any good tutorials out there that explain this. I am slowly reading the very expensive and short book which is somewhat answering my questions, but I crave more.
As a second question, I want to have a order system where I can send out information or emails with my own code. I assume this would be some type of plug-in that would override or be called at a certain time. Any info would be helpful.
Some parts of the magento data can be imported/exported via the backend (System->Import/Export), namely products and customers.
If you want to deal with the complete DB - use your DB tool of choice (I prefer mysqldump).
When dealing with exported CSV.. use OpenOffice, from my experience it deals better with the separation characters than Excel.
As for your second question - as far as I understood, you will have to develop a module if you want to do something different than the existing functionality and keep the original mail functions. If you don't want to/have to keep the original functions, you can opt to overwrite the module, which is much easier as far as I can see. Google search for "overriding magento module" should turn up atleast one decent tutorial.
I found what I was looking for here:
(on magento site: Resources -> Magento Core API -> Product API or whichever API you want)
The problem is there is no Order API yet (or none that I've seen)
http://www.magentocommerce.com/wiki/doc/webservices-api/api/catalog_product#examples
This details how you'd write an external php script and obtain, edit or delete products (or anything else with an API).
Modules still look daunting, but I am reading through the (very thin) magento book (the only one available).
I hope this helps someone else.
