I just clicked "Show all duplicates like this" in the "Duplicated code fragment" context menu:
Now the duplicated code is permanently highlighted with a purple background, even if I close the "Duplicates" toolbar at the bottom of the IDE.
How do I remove this highlighting?
Simply hit the ESC key to remove that highlighting.
If the IDE is finding "Duplicate code fragments" between your source code and a copy of it in an output directory (like Python setup.py creates in a build/ directory; I don't know how this goes in PHP), then mark the output directory as excluded from source directories.
Right-click the output directory in the Project View, then Mark Directory As > Excluded.
BTW, this works in PyCharm and IntelliJ as well, and presumably in all the JetBrains IDEs.
Just re-open the file/project - it will remove the highlighting.
If you don't like the "Duplicate code fragment" violation to be reported for your code fragment, try suppressing inspection for statement by adding // noinspection DuplicatedCode before it.
There is a request for making the duplicates highlighting less aggressive, IDEA-210614, please feel fre to vote for it

On trying to re-compile all files in a solution, using Visual Studio 2017, I get this uninformative error message:
Web Compiler found an error in compilerconfig.json
To begin with, there is more than one compilerconfig.json file in the solution.
Secondly, there is no indication whatsoever of what the error is, where it occurs (line number, for instance).
Any ideas how I can go about solving this?
In Visual Studio's Solution Explorer, right-click the compilerconfig.json file and click "Task Runner Explorer". In the left pane you will see "compilerconfig.json/all files", right-click on it and then click on "Run". You will see the details of the execution which, in my case, included the useful information about how to correct the error.
I was able to solve this issue for myself by using individual file compiling, instead of "All files".
I was getting a "Compiling successful!" message, but that didn't seem true because my compile file didn't contain my change. So here's what I did:
Open Window > Task Runner Explorer. In your left column, there is a task for "All Files". That's fine. Ignore it.
Compile your SCSS files individually. Do this by right clicking on each SCSS file in that list, and then Bindings > After Build. (Or add the task to whatever event you prefer. I chose After Build.)
Open any SCSS file in your project and add a test. I added something like #TEST2 {color: hotpink;} to my SCSS file.
Now when you save, your compiling takes a few seconds longer. Now open main.css and see if your change (#TEST2) exists in the file.
I just went through this and didn't find an easy way but I got past it.
My issue turns out to be a missing input file that was supposed to be compiled.
Method of attack:
Try to compile each compilerconfig.json file (right-click -> Web Compiler -> re-compile all files)
repeat until you find the file in question
Remove all data from this file and add entries in one at a time (or scan it to make sure your files are there, which ever fits your situation)
The root problem is that the Web Compiler didn't install successfully. I had the same problem as described in the other answers and went down a rabbit hole to figure out why I couldn't compile. Turns out I had to help the tool install itself. See this comment for details:
https://github.com/madskristensen/WebCompiler/issues/390#issuecomment-475427735
Once I did the steps listed in that comment, I able to both compile files again and was explicitly told by the tool which line of my SCSS had an error.
For an information:
I got the same error in VS2019 webcompiler. And I found a solution ie;
Project should be open as a "Web Site".
Do not open as a folder. This simple thing is solved my issue.
I'm currently working on a HTML5 projects in netbeans and wanted to change a variable name with multiple occurrence. However, when I clicked refactor and then rename, the IDE tells me that:
Rename refactoring can't be applied in this context.
So is it possible to refactor variable names in HTML5 projects in Netbeans?
The JavaScript refactoring options are very limited, typically it works only in context of single file and you can invoke it by placing cursor on the target variable/function and pressing Ctrl+R (sorry, not sure about the shortcut on Mac) and then typing a new name. This is not full refactoring, only "limited rename" and again, it will rename variables only in given file, not the whole project.
Please note that in NetBeans if you open Refactor from the main menu, there is also Rename action with the same shortcut displayed but the shortcut is actually doing something else than the menu item.
I have a JS file where no matter what is put on the first line (comment or code), PHPStorm lists a syntax error. When I hover over the error, the description says "Statement Expected". What it looks like:
Is this a bug with the IDE or something that can be disabled?
EDIT
Sample file here
You have UTF-8 BOM signature (EF BB BF) just before var myApp= line (first code line in that file)
If you remove it IDE will stop complaining.
P.S.
Yes -- IDE should be smarter in such case and should provide better error message and error location. Feel free to submit new ticket to the Issue Tracker at http://youtrack.jetbrains.com/issues/WI
In most of the cases this issue occurs due to copy paste.
There may be some characters/line feed which may need to rewrite in your IDE.
In such cases simply copy your code to notepad and again copy it back to your IDE.
You can turn off "Properties > Languages & Frameworks > Template Data Languages" and error "statement expected" will go out.
I was trying some plugins on my Sublime Text yesterday and today I noticed that some commands were missing form my command palette window, namely:
New file into view (Not "new view into file", that one is still there)
Open in Browser as Testing Server(maybe the word "server" here is wrong)
Open in Browser as Development Server(maybe the word "server" here is wrong)
These three were really helpful to me, How can i get them back?
sublime text menu is a json PATH_TO_SUBLIME\Data\Packages\Default\Main.sublime-menu you can edit it or replace
These commands are added by a package called SideBarEnhancements. Install this package and you will get these commands back.

In PhpStorm I get a read mark on the upper right side of the code window if there's a PHP bug in the file. That's great. What I like to have is a list of all files which have this read mark.
Any ideas?
To get the list of all files with errors and warnings use Code | Inspect Code. It's possible to specify what inspection profile to use, which directories to scan. Custom Scope provides a flexible way to include/exclude certain directories or files from the inspection results.
Slightly off-topic, but may be helpful. If you need to jump through all the errors in a file (for example, CSS file), open up the file and and hit the F2 button on the keyboard. Repeat it to cycle through all the errors. To navigate back to the previous error, hit Shift + F2
