I am writing an SSRS report that will group on data depending on if the user passes a customer number or a project number. The report groups the values correctly, but the grouping header shows the opposite of what it's grouping on.
For the example below I have called the report passing in a custnumstart value. It is grouping on customer number but the column that is showing the grouping is the project number.
=IIf(IsNothing(Parameters!CustNumStart.Value)
AND (Parameters!ShowDetails.Value = 0), Fields!Proj_Num.Value,
IIF((IsNothing(Parameters!ProjectStart.Value)
AND Parameters!ShowDetails.Value = 0), Fields!Cust_Num.Value, ""))
The issue was resolved by correcting the text box value (Text box properties -> Value) to be:
=IIf(IsNothing(Parameters!CustNumStart.Value) AND Parameters!ShowDetails.Value = 0, Fields!Proj_Num.Value, Fields!Cust_Num.Value))
not changing the way the report was grouping

I am working with RDLC report, where I have a very specific customer requirement to print a summary at the end of Report.
Please refer to image below for clear understanding:
Report summary is generated based on two Groups: Resource (No), and Task Wage Type.
1st tablix group = No.
2nd tablix group = Task Wage Type.
I need to generate an average per resource where:
Average = Total Cost / Quantity (where Task Wage Type = Hourly Task Wage)
So, I am working on extracting the value for Quantity where Task Wage Type = Hourly Task Wage and show it in Total Column for each group.
How can I achieve this?
Currently I have written this expression to achieve results, but its throwing an error as shown in picture above
=Sum(CDec(Fields!Total_Cost.Value), "Resource_No1")/Sum(IIF(UCase(Fields!WT_TaskWageType.Value)="HOURLY TASK WAGE", CDec(Fields!Quantity.Value), 1), "Resource_No1")
Finally my RDLC tablix image is shown below where I have two groups
How to resolve this error?
I can't see too much wrong with your expression so I would try to simplify things and build each part of the expression up until you get an error.
Two points though...
You should not need to specify the scope "Resource_No1" as it appears that the textbox is already within the correct scope (it's in he Resource_No1 group's rows).
Also, you appear to be adding 1 into your sum amount when the task wage type does not match your criteria. You should use 0 or nothing there instead I guess.
You could just try this to start with and then if that does not work, build up each part of the expression slowly.
=Sum(Fields!Total_Cost.Value)
/
Sum(IIF(UCase(Fields!WT_TaskWageType.Value)="HOURLY TASK WAGE",
Fields!Quantity.Value,
Nothing)
)
If you still get errors, try returning just the second part of the expression and see what you get.
I just tried this on a similar setup and it worked as expected.
I created a report with 5 fields in a hierarchical order:
Order Date
Time of Day (AM/PM)
Parent Name (aka customer)
Product Line
BIC Part Number (aka Item)
Each field expands down to the next level, so order date expands to time of day, etc.
I want to create a drill through report so that the user can click on each level of the hierarchy and see the detail.
This works fine at the lowest level - Item - because only 1 values from each field has to be passed to the drill through report parameter. However, when I try, for example, to drill through based on Product Line, there will usually be 3 or 4 Items within this product line. In the Go To action, I have the drill through parameter "bic_part" set to the main report FIELD value "BIC Part Number".
I have the tablix on the drill through report set where "BIC Part Number" IN [#bic_part].
I just want to be clear, I am passing a set of report field values to the drill through report parameter, not parameter to parameter.
I have tried using expressions with =Split(Join(field value),","),",") and all variations on that. I can't seem to get the child report filters to accept multiple values from the BIC Part Number field from the parent report.
I also tried omitting the BIC Part Number value in the go to report section, but it would not let me.
All of the parameters in the child report are set to accept multiple values. My data source for both reports is the same stored proc, so I can add a query filter. I would appreciate any help.
I think each sub report link needs to be slightly different.
In the subreport, each parameter needs to accept null and your query needs to look for
(FieldName = #FieldNameParameter or #FieldNameParameter is null)
This will allow you to pass the lowest possible solid value, then null for all child values.
If we're looking at the Parent_Number level, on that subreport link you would pass Fields!Parent_Number.Value and then Nothing for each of the lower parameters (Product_Line, BIC_Part_Number).
This will allow you to filter on the lower common denominator in your sub report - Part_Number for this link, Product_Line for the next one down, etc.
I've used this logic in reports before, so it does work. Let me know if my explanation needs clarification - it's Friday afternoon..
I created a matrix report table with the option to drill down in that matrix with the + sign in both columns and rows.
The user can also click on any text-box in the matrix and it actions to a different report with parameters to view details.
Both tables are 1 report and 1 matrix table in different settings of hide/show groups.
In the right table I sent the number marked red is an example for drill through with parameters sales+mary, and aria1+product 2.
On the left, the drill through always sends with sales-david as parameter because he was first.
How can I drill-through with a parameter that represents the entire group of sales?
You should be able to use InScope("SalesPerson") or simialr to test the scope of the cell you click on. If it's inscope of the detail column group you can pass the actual SalesPerson to the drill down report, if not then pass some arbitrary value (say -1) and have you sub-report ignore SalesPerson if the parameter is -1
InScope("SalesPerson") will return true if the group is expanded or false if it's not.
You can read about InScope here

I have a report showing hours and dollars that are written off. Jobs for this report are classified as NRB (non-billable) and non-NRB (billable). Each job type has its own Tablix in the report and I want to populate each Tablix based on a bit value - IsNRB.
All of the "0" IsNRB rows should populate the top Tablix and the "1" values should populate the bottom Tablix . For the most part this is working. What is happening, however, is that some Programs or Clients will have both NRB and non-NRB jobs, and it appears that as each Tablix works its way through the rows of the report dataset, it will capture and retain the first value for IsNRB and apply that to the entire report.
I have tried logic similar to the following in a number of places/ways:
=IIF(Fields!IsNRB.Value = False, Fields!CustProgram.Value, NOTHING)
The Grouping hierarchy of the report looks like this:
ProgramGroup
ClientGroup
Job/SubJobGroup
Detail is here
I have tried setting evaluative expressions similar to the one above on TablixVisibility, GroupVisibility, RowVisibility, and in the field expression itself. The behavior seems consistent in that the first row for that Program, Client, or Job sets the value of IsNRB for the entire report.
As a concrete example, the first Program, "Cascadia" has three rows where IsNRB = 1/True and two where IsNRB = 0/False, and the latter two rows of data are always misapplied because the value of 1/True is overriding the 0/False valued rows.
What is the proper approach to take that will allow the first Tablix to accept and display rows of data where IsNRB = 0 and the second Tablix to show those with a value of 1? Do I need to abandon the IsNRB bit datatype and just have a distinct dataset for each Tablix? That seems like a klunky way to approach the report.
Filter each table on the IsNRB field. Right click the tablix and select Tablix Properties. Select filter, then then select the field you want to filter against (IsNRB) and the value your want it to be (1).
This will put all records with a 1 for the field in one table, and with a 0 in the other
I have a ssrs report, that gives me multiple product's price. My Parameter is not drill down, I have to type in the parameters(since I have large range of product number).
Now my questions is, how can i get the last entered product ( parameter) always appear at the bottom of the report ?. This would help me where to look the latest product in the report. For example I have product numbers like:
abc-234,
abc-570,
ght-908,
Now what I want is that the latest entered product number which is ght-908 to appear at the bottom of the ssrs reports. Right now it gives me the report for the multiple product, but its all over the place and i have to squint my eyes and try to find out where my most recent entered product numbers (parameters) is. I have also tried to stop the parameters to being refreshed everytime i add a product number.
Assuming your parameter name is MyParameter, in report designer (BIDS) just drop a textbox onto report below the data (e.g. Table) and put following expression into its value's formula:
=Parameters!MyParameter.Value.Split(",")(Parameters!MyParameter.Value.Split(",").Length - 1)
it will split the parameter list and grab the last value
Update: here is the screenshot with steps:
And here is the runtime result
This expression works for me:
=Trim(Right(Parameters!Product_Number.Value
, InStr(StrReverse(Parameters!Product_Number.Value), ",") - 1))
Trim might not be strictly necessary but is useful as it will work if the values are split with spaces as well as commas, or not.
For example:
It sounds like you want to order the results of the stored procedure by the order of the product codes as they are typed into the report parameter (which is a comma separated list).
You can return the index (order) of each product code in the parameter by using the Array.IndexOf and Split functions, e.g.
If you have a report parameter called "ProductNumber" and you also have a field called "ProductNumber" returned in your dataset, the following code will return the zero-based index of the Product Number as entered into the parameter list:
=Array.IndexOf(
Split(Parameters!ProductNumber.Value.ToString(), ",")
, Fields!ProductNumber.Value
)
So if abc-234 is the first product number in the parameter list then this code will return 0. If abc-570 is the second product number in the parameter list then this code will return 1, etc.
Assuming the products are listed in a tablix, then I would set the tablix sort expression to the above, which should sort the products into the order specified in the report parameter.
