Google chrome on android zooms page out on: open off canvas menu - html

have created a quick test off canvas menu in zurb foundation, works great except: On every other browser, than chrome (both ios and android) tested: (http://prntscr.com/obpii6) it looks like it should.
But in chrome when you "toggle" the "off canvas menu" then the menu opens as it should but then jumps and zooms out (the text becomes way small) http://prntscr.com/obpkjb
Anyone have any clues as to what might cause this? I have never experienced anything like it before.

To anyone else who bump into this, and find this question in a search:
I found out that in chrome on mobile devices you can activate a force zoom activation, this option in the browser settings seemed to be the culprit. The option isn't activated by default.
So if you experience something like this check the following: goto > settings > Accessibility > Force enable zoom option, deaktivate this and see if this helps.
If someone know of a clean way to prevent this strange zoom out via html, css og js, do share :)

Font Awesome Icons Behave Like Schrödinger's Cat on Mobile

I'm using Font Awesome 5 Free via a kit. On desktop, the icons work perfectly. But on mobile (iOS chrome (normal and incognito), iOS firefox focus, iOS safari), they behave like Schrödinger's cats...
On first page load, the icons appear. Tap reload and they disappear and are replaced by small squares. Tap reload again and they reappear. Every other tap of reload shows or hides the icons.
I notice the same behavior if I toggle back and forth between "request desktop site" and "request mobile site". (I'm not sure what's really going on under the hood there since the page renders the same either way.)
Since they do appear correctly, at least part of the time, I don't think it's a cross-origin problem or a caching problem.
An example page is here: https://onlinesafetyzone.com/learn/learning-zone.php
I've read many posts, here and on GitHub and none of the solutions has worked. Anyone have a clue what's going on?
It seems you have somekind of a XSS issue. I would try to download the fontawsome resources and deploy them with the application. Can be that they have a CDN problem, every second time the fonts break :| so maybe one of the nodes is flipping.

Disable grid in chrome device emulation

I know this question may not fit well here but this really is driving me crazy for few hours now :( I use chrome to simulate how websites look on different mobile devices. I clicked something wrong that led to a grid with rulers to appear. I don't know WTF to do to disable this grid. This is the screenshot:
I uninstalled and reinstalled the browser and it returns back.
I reset the developer tools to default settings and it's still there.
This is really becoming a nightmare for me for few hours now. I want the regular emulation without these rulers and grid and top bar. Thanks
There is a small blue button on the left of Elements which actually does the magic.
You didn't click anything wrong. Your Chrome updated itself to 38.2125 and the emulator now has those attributes. Further more, the touch function is broken.
To fix the problem, download the "Canary" version of Chrome. You're still required to see the grid, but the screen is improved and easier to see your layout. Also, the touch function is fixed.
Get Chrome Canary here: https://www.google.com/intl/en/chrome/browser/canary.html
That button just enables/disables the emulator. The OP is looking for a way to disable the background grid while emulating mobile devices.
If you're looking to disable the multi-colored grid lines that show up as an overlay, check out the console dock on the bottom of dev tools. There is a tab labeled rendering and try disabling "Show composited layer borders". If you're still seeing the rulers, that setting is in the Settings (gear) of dev tools, there is an option under the Elements heading for "Show rulers".

Google Chrome is zoomed in

So I was using Chrome and IE together when all of a sudden Chrome decides to change its zoom level not only for the webpage, but the entire browser. I'm not sure if it happened when I restarted Chrome or if it happened when I decided to bring it to the front. So basically, all menu items, logos, icons, absolutely everything appears to have been zoomed in slightly. I have restored to original settings, disabled extensions (I don't use any extensions anyways), uninstalled and reinstalled, and nothing.
I've used the DPI settings in the properties of the Chrome application and nothing changes it. I've changed scaling in Windows and nothing helps.
Everything is larger in Chrome now and it's driving me crazy. Many menu items won't appear fully because of this. Note that this isn't just at the webpage level but at the entire browser level. I've included some images so you can compare. If you look at the youtube homepage, you'll see that everything is larger in Chrome than it is in Internet Explorer.
Scratch that apparently I need reputation in order to post pictures, ugh. If I can get 10 rep soon I'll post some pics.
I'm sorry if my description is rather vague but this isn't something I could search up. No other programs (including IE) are having this issue. THanks very much in advance if anyone can help. This is just driving me crazy.
No, Ctrl + 0 obviously does not work. This is an issue with the program as the entire program looks zoomed in. Everything, not just the webpage.
Found a "quick fix" solution from post #38 here:
Right click on the Chrome link on your desktop
Choose Properties and then add " /high-dpi-support=1 /force-device-scale-factor=1" to the existing Link to your path to chrome.exe.
Hope this works permanently. What a hassle.
If you're experiencing a "zoomed in" browser it's because you have an updated version of Chrome. Chrome and FireFox now adjusts the page zoom level according to your Windows settings to better support high DPI displays. For example, if Windows is set to 125% font size (120dpi), the content area will be zoomed by 25%. This is usually the default setting on your computer.
This means that your updated Chrome and/or FireFox browser will automatically set websites to 125%, and all other browsers remain at 100%.
What are possible solutions?
As of this writing, their isn't a known method of fixing this from a web coding standpoint, due to that it's created from the inner workings of the browser. That being said, their are still some things you can do from the "users" side to fix this:
The quickest way around this is to open up your browser and press on your keyboard "ctrl -" (control minus) twice. This will set your website content to 75%, which would be equivalent to 100% in all other browsers (but this will just fix the website content).
You can set your computers font-size settings in your control panel to "100%". This will make all of your computer fonts smaller.
I'm sure their is a better answer to this, but for now these are the 2 options that I'm seeing. In FireFox version 22 they also added this feature (as mentioned above), you can see the work around for FireFox here: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/962979
I'm sure a similar solution also exist with Chrome.
You can change your windows default zoom to 100% in display settings and make everything almost unreadable, or (a better way)
You can add a start parameter to your chrome shortcut:
"your-chrome-dir\chrome.exe" /high-dpi-support=1 /force-device-scale-factor=1
I know, it's too late, but just in case someone else has this problem...

elements display incorrectly on tablet browsers

I'm currently working on one of my first two projects and you can tell that I'm still at the beginning of my youtube-tutorials-&-SO-powered learning journey:
our neighbor's skin & beauty spa
Please don't be too harsh on my code :D I've hand-written everything from scratch in a little editor.
In short, everything seems to work A-OK on desktop computers (I tested FF and Chrome), but on the iPad and other tablets I'm experiencing nasty bugs - I'm having major trouble with two issues:
the Google Maps iframe is always visible (overlaps other
sections) on tablets even if the corresponding section isn't clicked
on in the menu, and I have no idea why! It seems that the
visibility:hidden on a position-fixed element isn't interpreted
correctly?
:focus works on the image gallery 'sneak peak', but
in the services section, the 4 sub-content areas are inaccessible.
(Unrelated?) When the page loads on my iPad (mini) the #logo_box
div appears at page load, but turns semi-transparent the very
instant as the map iframe appears.
EFFORT1: I removed the Google maps iframe-containing 'content' container altogether, and suddenly the :hover on the other content sections stopped working as well. This might be an indicator that something is 'linked' in a way that's not right...
EFFORT2: I assumed that the < label> is the culprit, but I can't pinpoint it. I tried this suggested solution, but it's for IOS4 (2011), and as Rob Fletcher commented last Feb., it doesn't work on IOS7.
EFFORT3: I feel that the .content div's {visibility:hidden/visible;} is causing trouble in the android mobile browser: input:checked hides instead of reveals the particular section while all others show.
Btw, how do I friggin' trouble-shoot tablets? I don't have any dev tool on ipad & android browsers.
Help is much appreciated!!
On iPad, you can go into the Settings App, then go Safari -> Advanced -> Web Inspector.
Then plug it into your Mac via USB and open Desktop Safari on the Mac. If you haven't already enabled the Develop menu, go Safari -> Preferences -> Advanced -> Show Develop Menu.
Then when you open a web page in Safari on the iPad, you can connect to it via the Develop menu on your Mac's Safari and use the web inspector.
If you're using Chrome on Android you can use remote debugging https://developer.chrome.com/devtools/docs/remote-debugging
Weinre provides similar functionality across more platforms (including Android native browser), but is a bit more involved to set up.

Pinch-to-zoom as scroll wheel in web browser

I have a Windows 7 tablet (an ASUS EP121), and I am using a web browser to display a Google Maps-based web application that I have created. Basically, I want the pinch gesture to zoom the Google Map (similar to using the scroll wheel to zoom a Google Map when using a mouse), rather than zooming the entire web page.
In Opera, Firefox, and Chrome, the pinch gesture simply zooms in the entire page. This behavior makes perfect sense for most use cases, but I'm wondering if there is any setting, in any of these browsers (e.g., Opera, FF, Chrome) that can cause the pinch gesture to behave like a mousewheel instead of zooming in the entire page?
Interestingly enough, in Arora, the pinch gesture can be used to zoom in/out a Google Map; however, other issues are preventing me from using Arora effectively that I think will be more difficult to address than the issues I am raising in this question.
Another option would be to disable pinch gestures (I know this is possible in Firefox, I'm sure the other browsers have some means to do the same), and then try to let the application take care of it. Are there any thoughts on going this route? Would something like jQuery mobile be able to accomplish this?
As a last resort, I could use Qt's webkit and implement my own event handling (basically creating a stripped down Arora), but I'm really hoping there's an easier way that utilizes currently available browsers.
Thanks.
If anyone ever runs into the same problem that I had here, I have created a very simple WebKit-based web browser using Qt that implements a pinch gesture and uses it to fire off a scroll wheel event.
It works quite well (especially for Google Maps) and the source is available on github here. I've tested the code on Windows 7 and Ubuntu Linux 12.04; it works without any problems.
