I need some information, I wan't to create a simple game with a geolocation API, I have looked at: Google Map API, MapBox.
I wan't to have the actual location of the user, he can see the map around him (like Pokemon GO), I can put a marker at 10 meters for example, when he approach the marker with his phone, I do an event, a popup appear, and he won a score is increased.
How can I do that ?
Mapbox SDK is versatile and allows for 'MapViews' inside of your own application's activity.
The have a great amount of information inside their docs. I'd say to start with their introduction apps and work your way up once you are familiar.
Ideas:
You could customize the user location icon to be the player and use the proximity controls around the users fine location to reach goals/tasks.
You could then have pins on the MapView that the user's location can interact with

I had an idea to hide gifts for different occasions (Christmas, Birthday, Anniversary, etc) around the house, and create an app that will act as a "locator". Preferably, I would like to have AR directions similar to those shown in Google Maps' Live View Walking Directions. Are there any platforms that exist to help me map out my house and create these AR Markers showing which way to go?
My worst case scenario at the moment is to just place an AirTag with the gift and let them use my phone to find the item. This will require almost no prep time, but loses the "cool" factor. I don't mind spending a lot of time on this as it's something I would enjoy doing.

Cloud Anchors let you map a location, place anchors, and attach virtual content to these anchors. These are great for private locations and events where you can show up ahead of time, map the location, and place content.
I am developing JavaME LWUIT application which needs to display some data on map.
And I'd like to use Google Maps for this.
I thought about the requirements to the maps and their user interface. They are
listed below:
Pannable map. It should be possible to scroll the map using the touch interface or navigation arrow buttions which are displayed on the map.
Zoomable map. At the best, there should be appropriate +/- buttons displayed on the map.
Search location by address and move to it (menu command).
Remember the last visited location.
Marker for the current location.
Markers with customable icon and text which is displayed when select the marker (click on it or select somehow).
I spent some time searching for appropriate Map Library for JavaME/LWUIT.
I expected to find a free library and map service (ha-ha).

That library uses the Google Static Map Service. Not bad... but it needs a lot further improvements...
I found the follwoing issues with that library:
Markers: impossible to customize marker's icon and text. Displaying the marker's text on click/selection is not supported.
Map Panning: no UI controls for this (arrow buttons). Doing panning with menu commands is not a user-friendly.
Map Zooming: no UI controls for this (+/- buttons). Not so important...
License: not permitted to use in a mobile app if not a Google Premier User. Not a problem...

Did not try. But looks like that lib fulfills all my requirements.
I am not sure about the following things:
Quality of the maps.
How much does it cost? I mean the cost of using the map service.

See the Makeover demo in SVN (I updated it to use Google maps instead of Yahoo maps API which was killed off). The GoogleService API should be available in the SVN history it was (deleted because of licensing nonsense) within the IO services directory and it includes local search etc.
Terrence has a a demo that includes allot of interesting features including a browseable map.
You can also look at Waze although I haven't checked it myself, I saw people using open street map and AFAIK there is an open source mapping application based on that (although the license might not be appropriate for you but it might still be useful as a learning aid).
After some additional investigations I decided to use Nokia Maps. And now I have a working application which displays interactive map with my data markers on it and also my current location.
I chose Nokia Maps API because it provided real dynamic maps (panning, zooming, tiling) and fulfilled all my requirements, except "Remember the last visited location" (can be implemented on my own).
I met the following problems:
Using the maps from LWUIT, not from an ordinary MIDP application. I used the approach shown here Nutiteq SDK with LWUIT and also implemented my own MapWidget class for LWUIT.
Displaying additional info on marker click. There is no support for this in the lib. I had to implement it on my own. Details are here JavaME Nokia Maps API: how to display additional info on marker click

I have a number of events in the US. I have addresses for these events, but it varies in accuracy. Some might be the full address, some might be just "Austin, Texas".
I'd like to plot these programatically on a map on a webpage with a marker as they'll change fairly regularly. The marker should be an internal link to the relevant row in the table of events lower down on the page.
The image doesn't need to be updated on the fly, just on the (say fortnightly occasions) when an event is added (e.g. a cached image is cleared and recreated)

How would I go about putting markers on this image that correspond to the (rough) geolocation of these events?
Your best bet might be to use google maps and plot the locations and then just pull an image of the map - that way you can let google do all the work of placing the pins but not have to worry about people zooming, since it is a static image file.
Beyond that, you can type the locations into any mapping service to get a rough idea of the location and then place markers or dots on your map file in the same location. This would allow you to choose whatever image or color you want the icons/markers to be, since you will find and place them yourself.
Is it possible to allow a user to browse a Google Earth, and decide to add a placemark? I am using Google Earth API.
For example, if the user puts the mouse on a location, to automatically calculate the Long/Alt.

I am using the Google Maps API to code a campus map for my university. On the main map, when it is being viewed in the "Map" maptype, there is a custom overlay of the campus, which is set (by using GEvent.addDomListener) to be removed when the map is viewed in Satellite or Hybrid mode. When the user gets directions, through my map, to and from the campus, a polyline and 2 markers show up, like normal. When the marker is clicked, a small popup map is display, focused on the area of campus around that particular marker.
I was wondering if anyone knew of a way to set attributes of these mini-popup-maps. I need to extend the event listener to make sure that the overlay gets taken off when the mini map is clicked out of "Map" mode. I also need to be able to set the zoom level for these maps.
Any ideas?

Doesn't look like there are any built in options to modify the infoWindow you get from the GDirection markers, but you can explicitly replace the markers once you get them back.
