I am begining in styling shiny apps.
I want to create a create a full screen slider into a tabpanel of my application for my landing page.
According to this snippet, here's my application.
The carousel is empty. How can I solve this issues (perhaps the inline css <div class="item active" style="background-image: url(https://unsplash.it/1600/840?image=697);"> not working?
library(shiny)
ui <- fluidPage(includeCSS("carousel.css"),
navbarPage("project",
collapsible = TRUE,
tabPanel("Home",
tags$div(HTML('<div class="tcb-bs-fullscreen">
<div id="carousel-example-generic" class="carousel slide carousel-bg" data-ride="carousel">
<!-- Indicators -->
<ol class="carousel-indicators">
<li data-target="#carousel-example-generic" data-slide-to="0" class="active"></li>
<li data-target="#carousel-example-generic" data-slide-to="1"></li>
<li data-target="#carousel-example-generic" data-slide-to="2"></li>
</ol>
<!-- Wrapper for slides -->
<div class="carousel-inner" role="listbox">
<div class="item active" style="background-image: url(https://unsplash.it/1600/840?image=697);">

<div class="item" style="background-image: url(https://unsplash.it/1600/840?image=545);">
<div class="carousel-caption">

</div>
</div>
<div class="item" style="background-image: url(https://unsplash.it/1600/840?image=673);">
<div class="carousel-caption">

</div>
</div>
<!-- Controls -->
<a class="left carousel-control" href="#carousel-example-generic" role="button" data-slide="prev">
<span class="glyphicon glyphicon-chevron-left" aria-hidden="true"></span>
<span class="sr-only">Previous</span>
</a>
<a class="right carousel-control" href="#carousel-example-generic" role="button" data-slide="next">
<span class="glyphicon glyphicon-chevron-right" aria-hidden="true"></span>
<span class="sr-only">Next</span>
</a>
</div>
</div>')
)
)
)
)
# Define server logic required to draw a histogram
server <- function(input, output) {}
# Run the application
shinyApp(ui = ui, server = server)
And the LESS css:
/****************************
TURN BOOTSTRAP CAROUSEL INTO FULL SCREEN SLIDER
*****************************/
html,
body {
height: 100%;
}
.tcb-bs-fullscreen{
height: 100%;
.carousel,
.item,
.active {
height: 100%;
}
.carousel-inner {
height: 100%;
}
}
/****************************
USE BACKGROUND IMAGES IN CAROUSEL SLIDER
*****************************/
.carousel-bg {
.carousel-inner {
.item {
background-color: darkslategrey;
background-size: cover;
background-position: center;
min-height: 360px;
}
}
}
The URL's of the images loaded within your carousel seem dead except for the second or middle URL:
Does not load:
<div class="item active" style="background-image: url(https://unsplash.it/1600/840?image=697);">
Does load:
<div class="item" style="background-image: url(https://unsplash.it/1600/840?image=545);">
Does not load:
<div class="item" style="background-image: url(https://unsplash.it/1600/840?image=673);">
The code is working fine (you might want to fix your CSS however):
html, body {
height: 100%;
}
.tcb-bs-fullscreen {
height: 100%;
}
.carousel, .item, .active {
height: 100%;
}
.carousel-inner {
height: 100%;
}
.carousel-bg .carousel-inner .item {
background-color: #ccc;
background-size: cover;
background-position: center;
min-height: 360px;
}

I am trying to create slider inside an image.
As to the attachment, I want to change the proportion of the background color and then to insert inside this div the slider.
I was using this example:

Thank you for your help.
I decided 2 use bootstrap carousel to show some pictures of some projects, but sadly I have some problems with this.
I want 2 carousels on the same row, but this seems like an impossible mission.
I have tried to use css where I give the outter div a width on 100% and then created to "inner divs" with a width on 40 % each.
Sadly this doesn't solve the problem.
<div class="outterBound row">
<div class="insideSize">

Be carful with the use of ID, an ID is unique, you can't have two id="myCarousel". Change the id for each carousel or use class.
I'm fairly certain that this is a simple fix, but I've spent hours on it and am not sure why I haven't been able to fix it. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
My HTML is standard bootstrap:
<div class="row">
<div class="container" id="main">

<li data-target="#carousel-example-generic" data-slide-to="1"></li>
</ol>
<!-- Wrapper for slides -->
<div class="carousel-inner" role="listbox">
<div class="item active">
<img src="*IMAGE*" alt="Power Grid">
<div class="carousel-caption">
<h3>HELLO</h3>
<p>World</p>
</div>
</div>
<div class="item">
<img src="*IMAGE*" alt="Power Grid">
<div class="carousel-caption">
<h3>GOODBYE</h3>
<p>World</p>
</div>
</div>
</div>
</div>
<!-- Controls -->
<a class="left carousel-control" href="#carousel-example-generic" role="button" data-slide="prev">

<span class="glyphicon glyphicon-chevron-right" aria-hidden="true"></span>
<span class="sr-only">Next</span>
</a>
</div>
</div>
</div>
Here is my current CSS:
#main.container {
padding: 0 10% 5% 10%;
}
.carousel-inner > .item > img,
.carousel-inner > .item > a > img {
width: 50%;
margin: auto;
}
#carousel-example-generic {
border: #000000 solid 10px;
border-radius: 15px;
}
I'm trying to float a div with text content in it to the left of a Bootstrap Carousel, but the results make no sense. Can someone help me out?
It seems like the elements are staying block, even though I specify them as inline. Could this have to do with Bootstrap itself?
I've also included the CSS just in case it helps.
<div class="container">
<div id="elSlideShow">
<div id="slideShowLeft">

font-size: 30px;
}
#slideShowLeft {
float: left;
display: inline;
width: 40%;
}
#slideShowRight {
width: 55%;
float: right;
display: inline;
}
You can simply float them by using "float: left;" property. Put it in either CSS or in div, like style="float:left;"
https://fiddle.jshell.net/odzbg8rh/
You can adjust the distance between each button in CSS
I've copied your code and its working. Just a few points to correct.
Remove display: inline from your css as you are using float and when applied float to elements, it makes them block. So display: inline makes no sense when using with float.
Add class clearfix to parent of floating elements to set their layout.
<div id="elSlideShow" class="clearfix">
h2 {
font-size: 30px;
}
#slideShowLeft {
float: left;
width: 40%;
}
#slideShowRight {
width: 55%;
float: right;
}

Thanks for the help people, actually the problem was a list that came before. The fact that I floated that list probably messed with these elements. My solution was to add a line break after that list.
I have a bootstrap carousel with a fixed height. Here is the CSS:
.carousel-custom .carousel-outer {
position: relative;
}
#media(min-width: 992px){
.carousel-custom {
margin-top: 20px;
.carousel-inner {
height: auto;
.item {
height:500px;
line-height:300px;
}
}
}
}
#media(max-width: 991px){
.carousel-custom {
margin-top: 20px;
.carousel-inner {
height: auto;
.item {
height:300px;
line-height:300px;
text-align:center;
}
}
}
}
And here is my markup:

The issue is that I have images that are very wide, others very narrow and high, and others with a good ration height/width in the same carousel.
I'd like to have the wide images centered vertically (with a width of a 100%), high images centered horizontally (with a height of 100%) and "normal" images (with a decent ratio height/width) filling all the carousel.
Here is what I'm trying to do (first image is an example with a very wide image, second image with a very high one, and last one has a "decent" ratio).
How could I achieve this ? I've tried Make Bootstrap's Carousel both center AND responsive? and other tricks found on Google but none did this.
Since the .item elements are relative positioned you could just position the img elements absolutely. Giving the .item elements a fixed height, will help to vertically and horizontally align the images inside.
I'm sure there are lots of different ways to do this, here is one example. Hope it helps.
#import url('https://maxcdn.bootstrapcdn.com/bootstrap/3.3.6/css/bootstrap.min.css');
body {
background-color: black;
}
.carousel-inner > .item {
height: 100vh;
}
.carousel-inner > .item > img {
position: absolute;
top: 50%;
left: 50%;
-webkit-transform: translate(-50%, -50%);
-ms-transform: translate(-50%, -50%);
transform: translate(-50%, -50%);
max-height: 800px;
width: auto;
}
.carousel-control.left,
.carousel-control.right {
background-image: none;
}

Alright, I've been fiddling around for a while now. Ended up with the result below. Hope it helps and answers your question (at least for a small part).
<head>
<title>Bootstrap Carousel</title>
<meta charset="utf-8">
<meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width, initial-scale=1">
<link rel="stylesheet" href="http://maxcdn.bootstrapcdn.com/bootstrap/3.3.6/css/bootstrap.min.css">

<script src="http://maxcdn.bootstrapcdn.com/bootstrap/3.3.6/js/bootstrap.min.js"></script>
<style>
html,
body {
height: 100%;
}
.carousel,
.item,
.active {

.carousel-inner {
height: 100%;
}
/* Background images are set within the HTML using inline CSS, not here */
.fill {

background-position: center;
-webkit-background-size: cover;
-moz-background-size: cover;
background-size: cover;
-o-background-size: cover;
}
footer {
margin: 50px 0;
}
.tester {
height: 100%;
}
</style>
</head>
<body>
<div class="tester">

<script>
$('.carousel').carousel({

Again, hope it helps!
simply use image on absolute if your slider height is fixed
<div id="carousel-example-generic" class="carousel slide" data-ride="carousel">
<!-- Indicators -->
<ol class="carousel-indicators">
<li data-target="#carousel-example-generic" data-slide-to="0" class="active"></li>
<li data-target="#carousel-example-generic" data-slide-to="1"></li>
<li data-target="#carousel-example-generic" data-slide-to="2"></li>
</ol>
<!-- Wrapper for slides -->
<div class="carousel-inner" role="listbox">
<div class="item active">
<div class="middle">
<img src="http://placehold.it/1920x500">
</div>
</div>
<div class="item">
<div class="middle">
<img src="http://placehold.it/1920x300">
</div>
</div>
<div class="item">
<div class="middle">
<img src="http://placehold.it/600x900">
</div>
</div>
</div>
<!-- Controls -->
<a class="left carousel-control" href="#carousel-example-generic" role="button" data-slide="prev">
<span class="glyphicon glyphicon-chevron-left" aria-hidden="true"></span>
<span class="sr-only">Previous</span>
</a>
<a class="right carousel-control" href="#carousel-example-generic" role="button" data-slide="next">
<span class="glyphicon glyphicon-chevron-right" aria-hidden="true"></span>
<span class="sr-only">Next</span>
</a>
</div>
css
.carousel {
width: 500px; /*test width*/
height: 300px; /*what ever height */
}
.middle {
position: relative;
height: 300px; /*what ever height */
}
.middle img {
max-width: 100%;
max-height: 100%; /*what ever height */
margin: auto;
position: absolute;
left: 0;
right: 0;
top: 0;
bottom: 0;
}
see fiddle
If you try to achieve this in bootstrap carousel, you will end up with black bars in top and bottom...I was stuck with similar problem and ended up using "flickity" js library..it works lot better than tryig to achieve this on something not meant for this....
