When we use google maps in 3D at Google earth, it shows building heights and structures' actual heights in elevation data. However, the google elevation API provided by google results only ground elevations and not the actual elevations of buildings on ground.
I tried scraping this data from google earth's web portal, but they transfer packets between server and browser highly encrypted, and that failed.
Can you please suggest any way to find this elevation data I am looking for?
This feature is currently not available in Google Maps Elevation API, the Elevation API currently supports the ground elevation but not the establishments. However, you may file a Feature Request in the Google Maps Issue Tracker and share your use case there in order for the engineers to review the feasibilty of your request.

Can we get the 3D maps from the Google Maps API ?
i need to get the 3d model of any particular place just like the NYC 3d modedl.
Currently, the 3D Maps feature is not yet available from the Google Maps Platform - Maps JavaScript API.
But, we do have an existing feature request for this in our Google Issue Tracker. To express your interest and to subscribe you to its latest updates, I suggest that you star this entry: https://issuetracker.google.com/35821626
In the mean time, you may want to consider checking out the 45° Imagery and see if this will fit your use case. You could also find a code sample of this service here.
I help develop a desktop app that displays map information with various layers on top. Now we want to add the Google Maps traffic layer. We do have a developer API key.
How can I use the Google API without a website, to generate just the data layer I need and download it in KML or GeoRSS or any other format so I can use it in the desktop app on top of my own map?
We already use the distance matrix, geocode, and directions API. Is there a traffic API as well, or are traffic data only available for embedding on a website?
Traffic data is not available as separate API. You can only use TrafficLayer of Maps JavaScript API or Android SDK.
There is a feature request in Google issue tracker to expose these data as an API:
https://issuetracker.google.com/issues/36537583
However, it looks like Google didn't set high priority on this task. Feel free to star the feature request to add your vote and subscribe to notifications from Google.
I hope my answer clarifies your doubt.
I am doing a road traffic analysis and prediction a project.
In this i am using maps of locations using lat, long .
i want the traffic layers between source a and source b .
for example consider pes university as source A , ISRO layout as source B,
I want the traffic layer between source and destination. How can i get that?
I'm afraid Google Maps API doesn't expose traffic data between two points.
Note that there was a feature request for traffic data in Google issue tracker:
https://issuetracker.google.com/issues/112008136
Unfortunately, Google rejected this feature request with the following answer
Thanks for your post.
However, this request does not fit in any of the Maps APIs scope / offering.
The Maps JavaScript API does offer a Traffic Layer for visualizing traffic on a map:
https://developers.google.com/maps/documentation/javascript/examples/layer-traffic
The Directions API offers duration_in_traffic for each route.
Exposing traffic data in other forms is not in the scope of the Maps APIs.
I would like to know:
Is GTFS-realtime data available from the Google Maps Directions API?
If not, are there plans to include GTFS-realtime data in the Google Maps Directions API?
I am a member of a team developing a web application that integrates Google Maps Directions API. The website provides a "Trip Planner" form in which the user enters From, To, Date, and time data to display trip options into the website. Our website visitors are specifically interested in Bus transit options.
The integration is working wonderfully. However, the data returned by the Google API does not contain GTFS-realtime data. We know that the realtime is known to Google through GTFS feeds provided by the transit provider, and we see the realtime data when doing an identical search via https://www.google.com/maps.
I looked at the "Transit Specific Information" that is returned in the Google Maps API DirectionsResult Object (https://developers.google.com/maps/documentation/javascript/directions#TransitInformation). There is no reference to real-time information in this documentation. Even if real-time information is supplied (and I suspect that it is not), there would be no way to distinguish between scheduled and predicted times.
I was wondering if anyone knew of any map APIs that offer topographical or relief data? I've had a quick look at Google and Bing APIs, but could find nothing there.
Google allow you to view a map as TERRAIN, which means you can see the topography of a map, but I want to be able to get at that data - i.e. if I were to draw a line between 2 points on Google Maps, I want to know how high above see level points along that line are.
Is this possible with any map APIs out there?
Thanks for your time!
Here's a simple example of height along a route.
I use USGS to obtain the elevation data, Google Maps API to plot the route and Google Charts to draw the elevation profile.
Full details in the associated tutorial.
Here are a few web services that provide elevation data:
USGS Elevation Query Web Service
EarthTools
GeoNames
Also, this site can search each of them
