Spring Data JPQL How to create a query with dynamic where clause? - mysql

I'm creating custom JPQL queries to fetch some data.
I have certain cases where I would like to add a where clause depending on if the parameter value is non null.
For example equivalent sql query:
//If parameter status is not null.
SELECT sum(A.sal) FROM TABLE A WHERE A.STATUS = 'X' GROUP BY A.CURRENCY;
//else
SELECT sum(A.sal) FROM TABLE A GROUP BY A.CURRENCY;
Can someone help me with it.

The two queries:
//If parameter status is not null.
SELECT sum(A.sal) FROM TABLE A WHERE A.STATUS = 'X' GROUP BY A.CURRENCY;
//else
SELECT sum(A.sal) FROM TABLE A GROUP BY A.CURRENCY;
can be compacted to one.
First lets declare a named parameter statusParam. This param can take any value (like 'X' or null from above). So the two queries above can be re-written to:
SELECT sum(A.sal) FROM A WHERE (A.STATUS = :statusParam OR :statusParam is null ) GROUP BY A.CURRENCY;

Come on, JPQL is just normal String :)
You want something like this?

Codeigniter's Model with QueryBuilder JOIN query

Really new to working with CI4's Model and struggling to adapt my existing MySQL JOIN queries to work with the examples in its User Guide.
I have adapted part of my code like so:

It works fine. I have looked at examples, and figured out I can add the code ->table('shop a') and it still works, but I also need to to add the following JOIN statement:
JOIN (SELECT gtin, MIN(sale_price) AS sale_price FROM shop GROUP BY gtin) AS b ON a.gtin = b.gtin AND a.sale_price = b.sale_price
As soon as I add ->join('shop b', 'a.gtin = b.gtin and a.sale_price = b.sale_price') I get a '404 - File Not Found' error.
When I look at all examples of CI4 joins and adapt my code to fit, my foreach($shop as $row) loop generates a 'Whoops...' error because they end with a getResult() or getResultArray - instead of findAll().
Which is the way forward, and do I need to change my foreach loop.

Query builders have their limits. That's why the query method exists. If you have a complex query I'd advise you to just use $this->query();.
It will make you lose less time and effort converting something you know already works. And in the top of that, while converting complex queries you usually end up using the query builder but with big part of your SQL in it.
In your model extending CodeIgniter\Model :

BaseBuilder Class in Codeigniter expects the first join parameter to be the table name. So try passing the table name and join it on the table name itself. I haven't personally used the table aliases so I might also be wrong.
Following are the parameter that the JOIN query expects :
public function join(string $table, string $cond, string $type = '', bool $escape = null)
Here, it expects the first name be a table, so try out by switching aliases for the table's name directly.
For your second part of query, It would be better if you could show the whole error rather than just posting the first of the error.

How can i set a string values based on integer variable while executing sql query?

Getting all results using where clause

I have a function which takes an argument that is used in where clause
function(string x)-->Now this will create a sql query which gives
select colname from tablename where columnname=x;
Now I want this function to give all rows i.e. query equivalent to
select colname from tablename;
when I pass x="All".
I want to create a generic query that when I pass "All" then it should return me all the rows else filter my result.
Just leave the where condition out.
If you really want it that complicated use
where columnname LIKE '%'
which will only filter nulls.
select colname from tablename
where columnname=(case when #x ="All" then columnname
else #x end)
Try this
select colname from tablename where 1=1
hope the above will work
where 1=1 worked for me, Although where clause was being used all records were selected.
You can also try
[any_column_name]=[column_name_in_LHL]
(LHL=left hand side.)

I had the same issue some time ago and this solution worked for me
select colname from tablename where columnname=x or x = 'ALL'
SELECT * FROM table_name WHERE 1;
SELECT * FROM table_name WHERE 2;
SELECT * FROM table_name WHERE 1 = 1;
SELECT * FROM table_name WHERE true;
Any of the above query will return all records from table.
In Node.js where I had to pass conditions as parameter I used it like this.

It's unclear what language you're using for your function, but you have to somehow parse the 'All' prior to getting to sql:

If you have to allow 'ALL' to be passed through as the parameter value to your function, then you will need to put some manipulation code in your function to construct your SELECT statement accordingly. I.e. You can detect if the parameter has 'ALL' in it and then omit the WHERE clause from your SQL statement. If a value other than 'ALL' comes through, then you can include the WHERE clause along with the relevant filter value from the parameter.
An example of a piece of code to do this would be;

SELECT COLNAME FROM TABLENAME;
ELSE
SELECT COLNAME FROM TABLENAME WHERE COLUMNNAME = X;
END IF;
Give a conditional check in your code(assuming Java) to append the WHERE clause only when x != 'All'

How to do a count(*) in Hibernate?

How can I count the records in a MySQL table in Hibernate? I tried the following HQL, but it does not work.
SELECT COUNT(*) FROM MEMBERS WHERE `username` =:USERNAME OR `email` =:EMAIL
It is used in the following method:

I guess you need that
Query q = newSession.createSQLQuery("SELECT COUNT(*) FROM MEMBERS WHERE username = ? OR email =?");

Select count(*) returns a Long, not an Integer.
One more thing: The backticks, which you are using, are not accepted by every database.
By the way, you can use count(*) also in HQL. This means, you can use createQuery instead of createSQLQuery. An advantage of HQL is, it is portable from one database to another, which is not always the case for SQL statements.
You also can achieve this by using criteria also.

Null value matching in mySql

I have three tables in a mysql database . Deseasetype(DTID,TypeName) , Symptom(SID, SymptomName, DTID) , Result(RID, SID1, SID2, SID3, result).1st two table, i think is clear enough.
In result table: there will be combination's of symtoms and any values of SymID1/ SymID2/ SymID3 can be null. here i send a picture of the table result.
I want to input some symptom and output will be the result from the 'Result' table.
For that i wrote this query:
$query = "select Result from result where (result .SID1= '$symptom1') AND (result.SID2= '$symptom2' ) AND (result.SID3 = '$symptom3')";
This work only when three symptom's have value. but if any of the symptom's are null, then no result found. May be the query should be more perfect.

That's because you are comparing NULL to an empty string, and they aren't equal. You could try this instead:
SELECT Result
FROM symptom
WHERE IFNULL(symptom.SID1, '') = '$symptom1'
AND IFNULL(symptom.SID2, '') = '$symptom2'
AND IFNULL(symptom.SID3, '') = '$symptom3'
Notes:
You need to correctly escape the values of $symptom1, $symptom2 and $symptom3.
This won't efficiently use indexes.
As mark pointed out, the query is eventually falling down to compare with null if you are not escaping the null.
Or you can slightly change your logic to show a empty symptom with value '0' and then using the coalesce function you can easily build your query.
