Xinetd Bind fails for check_mk serivce - check-mk

I am trying to start adding our Linux servers to our Check_MK monitoring by installing the agent. I have installed Xinetd and the Check_MK_Agent RPM from my Check_MK server. The Check_MK agent however does not seem to be running.
When I do a "status xinetd.service" I see a few errors which I feel are saying that it isn't starting
xinetd[1533]: bind failed (Address already in use (errno = 98)). service = check_mk
xinetd[1533]: Service check_mk failed to start and is deactivated.
I'm unsure what the cause of this is. I thought maybe something else was on that port but a "netstat -antelup |grep -i 6556" doesn't only shows
tcp6 0 0 :::6556 :::* LISTEN 0 17995 -
which I'm not sure if that is specifically running and causing the issue or what is going on. My searches into the Bind Failed part have so far not turned up anything Check_MK related specifically and most of the answers I have found seem to me to be going off on tangents or are just going over my head.
Any help or insight that you could bring would be most helpful.

Did you manage to resolve this issue ? I had similar issue with check_mk.
Port 6556 was already used by some other process. I verified my check_mk setup by changing port number in /etc/xinetd.d/check_mk and restarted xinetd.
It proved no issue with my agent installation as well as xinted and then I found the process that uses 6556 and killed it.
Output from my testing with different port.
tcp 0 0 :::6559 :::* LISTEN 0 8283562 45970/xinetd
thanks

I had two config files in
/etc/xinetd.d/check_mk and check_mk_agent
with the same settings so i deleted one.
Restarted the xinetd service and everything is fine.

Running Fiware-Cygnus listener in CentOS

I have a VM with CentOS installed, where Orion Context Broker, Cygnus, Mosqquito and MongoDB are present. When I am checking connections with the following command:
netstat -ntlpd
I receive the following data Connections
It is seen that something is already listening to ports 8081 and 5050 (which are of Cygnus). But the Cygnus itself is not active, when I use the following:
service cygnus status
There aren't any instance of Cygnus running
While trying to run Cygnus test, it gives me fatal error which states that ports are taken and that the configuration is wrong.
Trying to run cygnus from
sudo service cygnus start
also fails. Here is the systemctl status:
FailedCygnus
After checking what is the process under the PID that is assigned to the Cygnus ports, I have this:
CygnusPorts
Perhaps someone has any clue what that can be? It feels like Cygnus is there but something is configured wrong. Also, is there another way of running Cygnus then, because I need to receive notifications from subscriptions somehow.
Thank you in advance, Stackoverflow!
EDIT 1
Tried killing processes under those PIDs that are listening to ports 5050 and 8081 but it did not help, cygnus still cannot be started.
Currently thinking of simply reinstalling everything.
EDIT 2
So, I have managed to run the simple "dummy" listener using the agent_test file. But I guess it is good only in the beginning and for learning purposes, later using own configurations is preferred?
So, for further investigation using agent-test.conf file is enough for me, the listener works and data is stored in a database. Perhaps in the future I will encounter this problem again, but for now it works.
What I had to do beforehand is to kill existing processes.

Mysql Service doesnt show but can login and is running

OK something odd and maybe im missing something simple here. I am trying to diagnose a problem I think that max connections are being reached and need to up them. Upon further looking I ran # service --status-all and then I noticed that mysqld was not in the list so I tried service mysqld status which returned mysqld: unrecognized service . but if I run mysql - p MYPASS I am logged in to mysql and can see all my databases as normal. also I log into phpmyadmin just fine all databases are there. Also have several scripts running using 'localhost' and my mysqlusername and pass, and they are running just fine...
So I am not sure why I am not seeing the mysql service, anyone have some idea? or can point me in some direction?
I am using Centos, I did not set this machine up that person is no longer here, I have several other servers running mysql as well and I checked all those all is right.
It sounds like the service has not been registered.
On a working box do;
chkconfig --list mysqld it should return something like;
mysqld 0:off 1:off 2:off 3:on 4:off 5:off 6:off
Now do the same on the box in question - if nothing comes back then you need to chkconfig --add mysqld then re run the above commands to verify its registered, then you should be able to access it via the service manager.

Xampp - Mysql on USB not running - Changed ports, no errors displayed

My MySQL once started runs for about 3 to 5 seconds before turning off. I've updated the my.ini file and changed the ports from 3306 to 3307 as I figured this was due to a problem with the fact that it was portable and the ports may have been used for something else.
Once I had made this change I closed Xampp and reopened it the status still shows:
mysql State 0 Service 0 Start 0 Thread 0 Op 0 port 3306
I've double checked my.ini and the changes have been made
I don't get any errors from Xampp displayed, mysql simply stops running without any information provided as to why.
Any help would greatly be appreciated.

MySQL Cannot Resolve Hostname

i have a problem with MySQL Server on Gentoo. When starting with /etc/init.d/mysql it simply hangs an nothing is happening until you interrupt with CTL + C. By trying to start with mysqld directly, mysqld says:
131007 0:54:00 [ERROR] Can't start server: cannot resolve hostname!: Bad message
131007 0:54:00 [ERROR] Aborting
In many forums it was sugested to add the skip-name-resolve option to my.cnf. I tried this
but it didn't help.
Has anyone had the same problem and knows how to solve this issue ?
Errors like you are seeing from mysql or other apps are usually due to problems in the file /etc/hosts and/or /etc/conf.d/hostname. Check the contents of both.
You need an entry in /etc/hosts for the hostname set by /etc/conf.d/hostname which is executed during bootup by /etc/init.d/hostname (I assume you have this set to run in one of the initial runlevels by rc).
If you have a static ip, go ahead and put the static ip in /etc/hosts. If you are using dhcp everywhere for a laptop, than add your hostname to the localhost ip address which is supposed to always exist regardless of whether you are online or not.
You should not have to set skip-name-resolve in my.cnf, but you may be to avoid issues by binding the mysql network socket just to localhost via adding the line:
bind-address = 127.0.0.1
and removing any other references to other bind-addresses.

Can't connect to MySQL server on localhost (10061) on window 7

I am having window 7 as a operating system in the production machine where i am trying to use MySQL server 5.0 as a database. But i am unable to configure MySQL on my production machine. Following is the error i am receiving.
The security setting could not be applied to the database because the connection has failed with the following error:
Error no. 2003
Can't connect to MySQL server on localhost (10061).
The message also prompts that you need to open TCP 3306 port to resolve this issue, i checked it and found that TCP 3306 port is already opened and state is listening.
This is my 'netstat -an' command result -
Proto LocalAddress ForeignAddress State
TCP 0.0.0.0:3306 0.0.0.0:0 LISTENING
It means TCP at 3306 is open. Can anyone please tell me the solution of this problem. However i am able to install and configure the same MySQL Server setup in window xp. I tried google as well and found a lot of blogs but none is of use.
Thanks a lot.
Change
host: localhost
to
host: 127.0.0.1
This is likely caused by the way your database is being resolved.
have you checked whether the port 3036 is already in use by another application?
Have you checked whether a telnet hostname 3036 works on the local MySQL server and also on the remote machine?
First check in the system, MySQL services is in running condition or not.
look out on path of services go to right click on My Computer > manage > Services and Application > Services and check MySQL service status is started or not. Otherwise right click on service and start to service.
I hope this will help you.
I didn't find the MySQL services even after solving the problem.
I just run the mysqld as administrator and the problem is solved. So, simple but It took me 3 hours to find the solution.
The problem was rsolved.
The MySQL was not running in the Services section of Settings. Because XAMMP had disconnected the already running application in the background.
