I'm attempting to import an atomic CSS framework - http://buildwithbeard.com/ - into a Codepen Project. I'm able to successfully get most of the functionality through simply linking it in my HTML like so:
<link rel="stylesheet" href="https://unpkg.com/beardcss/dist/beard.css">
However, in order to add new helpers (specifically, color helpers!), I need to import it into a .sass file as explained on this page.
But, because it's telling me to install it via NPM, I can't figure out a way to get the proper files into the proper place into my CodePen project.
(Here's a link to my CodePen Project.)
This guide on how to fake node modules in CodePen assumes a .js file - I can't figure out which files I need in which folder in order to successfully use BeardCSS in this CodePen Project.
How can I import and use BeardCSS in my CodePen Project?

Im trying to learn sass and JavaScript using VS Code. I created an app folder that holds my js folder which contains my script.js and scss folder that contains my _globals.scss. _header.scss, _variables.scss, and style.scss. I created a dist folder that contains my style.css and style.css.map. I have my html linked to my dist/style.css but I cannot get any of my pages to connect to my html page. I have the #import variables, globals, and header set in my style.scss page but the only styles I can add to my webpage is from the html document itself.
I’ve tried very little because I’m new to web development. Working from a MacBook, I downloaded homebrew, git, and a couple other apps I saw on YouTube. I tried changing my #imports to #use and adding them directly to the style.css but that did not help.
I was expecting by downloading any of those files would get my pages to communicate with each other.
Are you trying to import the .scss files on your styles.css? If so, this is not the right way to work with sass.
To be able to "transform" the .scss files into .css, you have to compile these files using the CLI (command-line/terminal).
This video shows how to do this procedure.
It the above is not the case, could you please send us screenshots of what you're trying to do, it will be really helpful to help you to fix this issue.
Create a new file in CSS(type),
then link that file using the <link> tag in your HTML page using the address of the newly created .css file.
I have no prior experience of scss and I am using a Portfolio Template for my portfolio website.
I added one more section to the website. If I am defining a style in any _file.scss file which was present priorly, it is working fine but when I create a new _filename.scss file for it. It is not detecting the style from that file.
Do I need to configure something before running npm start or npm install.
I think you have to Import the file in your main scss file.
ex.:
given:
_filename.scss
usage in the main scss file:
#import "filename";
Remember***
Dont write the underscore in there, the underscore means, that it is a (scss) file that is going to be imported.
I was trying to import bootstrap's css and material design's one into my angular application but i found at the same time an issue and a compromise.
If I include them with "link href" in my index.cshtml file, I get as
result that this prevents my angular app from loading.
If I include them with #include into my main .css file (which is
called by require("style-loader!./styles.css"); ), it actually
works but this prevents my app from parallel .css download and the
result is that - yes, it works - but that slows my app a lot.
I saw that lot of people include them into the proper angular-cli json file but my app is not an angular cli application so I actually can't do that.
So the question is: can you suggest me what's the best way and the best practice to include the css in a non-angular cli application?
OTHER INFORMATIONS:
I am using also webpack, don't know if this changes or means something for my question
One thing good to know about the angular CLI is that in the background it makes a call to webpack to bundle your application with bootstrap
(if you put the proper line in the angular-cli.json file
"styles": [
"../node_modules/bootstrap/dist/css/bootstrap.min.css"
],
)
As you are not using the angular.cli.json file, you have to directly import the bootstrap framework with webpack. A link which might help you to import boostrap with webpack : https://getbootstrap.com/docs/4.0/getting-started/webpack/
I hope it will be helpfull !
this is probably a really stupid question, but it'd be awesome if you could help me.
Here's the problem: I've added a package to my project. It contains some css files which I want to use in my HTML files and so on. I've added it by using yarn add <package>. The files are located inside /node_modules/semantic-ui-css/semantic.min.css.
Do I have to reference complete node_module path to load the css file inside my HTML file? That just doesn't sound right. Before I used a package manager I just downloaded a few css files, placed them into /vendor/css/ and used them.
Or is it normal these days to use <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="node_modules/semantic-ui-css/semantic.min.css">?
Target folders can be defined with
yarn install --modules-folder vendor/ semantic-ui-css
giving you a results of
href="vendor/semantic-ui-css/semantic.min.css"
Each package will always be wrapped in its own folder.
I am developing the RWD web app using twitter bootstrap, i want to do customize the bootstrap fro my needs, for that i downloaded the bootstrap source from getbootstrap.com .
I am planning to customize the bootstrap by keeping the bootstrap less files untouched and i want to create my own less files for customiztion as below
#import "../bootstrap/less/bootstrap.less";
#import "custom-variables.less";
#import "custom-other.less";
#import "../bootstrap/less/utilities.less";
But when i downloaded the bootstrap source, i am seeing so many folders along with the bootstrap LESS folder as below,
My question is: what are the files needed for me from bootstrap source folder to include in my web project.
Thanks in advance for any help.
The only file you need to import is bootstrap.less from less folder.
This file itself imports all the other .less files from that folder (besides theme.less, which is used for theming).
I'd suggest importing bootstrap.less and using theme.less to develop customized solutions.
Reading source of both files above may be beneficial to understanding what is "under the hood".
Remember that although you only import bootstrap.less, all the other files must be kept where they are, in order for bootstrap.less to be able to import them.
The files you need are in LESS folder. You can create a new file if you don't want to keep bootstrap same with layout.less . And can import that in master. After compilation your changes will be on top of it. You can use any compiler of your choice. e.g. Sublime Text plugin
You can also use just bootstrap.min.css and write your LESS code in a file a compile it to apply your custom changes(remember to import or include in your html file). This way you don't have to keep track of so many LESS file. As in any way your plans are not to change base bootstrap. So you can choose precompiled version and can always replace it when new updates come.
