I am not that much good in designs and I have a design issue which is dragging me for hours. If anyone can help me on that would be appreciable.
I have a div with a .container class and inside that, we have three div's. One with a class .col-md-3 another with a class .col-md-6 and the third one with class .col-md-3. The third column shouldn't be there at all. In some cases, it only the first and second div will be there.
Can we make the second div taken the space of third one if it is not there ? Is there any method in bootstrap for this.
Please help me.
you can use col classes to div. it will automatically adjust if one div is removed from the row
check https://getbootstrap.com/docs/4.1/layout/grid/#equal-width for more information
.col {
background-color: rgba(86,61,124,.15);
border: 1px solid rgba(86,61,124,.2);
}
<link href="https://stackpath.bootstrapcdn.com/bootstrap/4.1.1/css/bootstrap.min.css" rel="stylesheet"/>
<div class="container">
<div class="row">
<div class="col">
1 of 2
</div>
<div class="col">
2 of 2
</div>
</div>
<div class="row">
<div class="col">
1 of 3
</div>
<div class="col">
2 of 3
</div>
<div class="col">
3 of 3
</div>
</div>
</div>
you can check by removing one column from the row
You heck a little but on bootstrap 3. by adding some of custom CSS.
Please View in full page mode
$('button').click(function(){
$('#toggle_col').toggle();
});
.col-sm-3 {
background-color: red;
}
.col-sm-6 {
background-color: blue;
}
/* this will do the trick */
#media (min-width: 768px)
.flex-row {
display: flex;
flex-wrap: wrap;
}
}
.flex-col {
flex: 1 0 auto;
}

Order columns through Bootstrap4
(6 answers)
Closed 3 years ago.
I have to divs next to each other in a row div. On mobile, i want the right_side div(col-md-9) to be the first div.
I tryed ordering it with flex, but it messed up all my site.
<div class="row">
<div class="col-md-3">Left side</div>
<div class="col-md-9">Right side, but first on mobile or tablet</div>
<div class="clearfix"></div>
</div>
If i am viewing the site on mobile or tablet, i want the col-md-9 div as first div.
#media screen and (max-width: 767px) {
.col-md-3 {
order: 2;
}
.col-md-9 {
order: 1;
}
}
<script src="https://cdnjs.cloudflare.com/ajax/libs/jquery/3.3.1/jquery.min.js"></script>
<link href="https://stackpath.bootstrapcdn.com/bootstrap/4.3.1/css/bootstrap.min.css" rel="stylesheet" />
<script src="https://maxcdn.bootstrapcdn.com/bootstrap/3.4.0/js/bootstrap.min.js"></script>
<div class="row">
<div class="col-md-3">Left side</div>
<div class="col-md-9">Right side, but first on mobile or tablet</div>
<div class="clearfix"></div>
</div>
there is an option to reverse the row using class. here is the code please try it once.
<div class="row flex-row-reverse">
<div class="col-md-9">Right side, but first on mobile or tablet</div>
<div class="col-md-3">Left side</div>
<div class="clearfix"></div>
</div>
Just use order property.
#media only screen and (max-width: 760px) {
.col-md-3 {
order:2;
}
}
#media only screen and (max-width: 760px) {
.col-md-3 {
order:2;
}
}
<link rel="stylesheet" href="https://maxcdn.bootstrapcdn.com/bootstrap/4.0.0/css/bootstrap.min.css" integrity="sha384-Gn5384xqQ1aoWXA+058RXPxPg6fy4IWvTNh0E263XmFcJlSAwiGgFAW/dAiS6JXm" crossorigin="anonymous">
<div class="row">
<div class="col-md-3">Left side</div>
<div class="col-md-9">Right side, but first on mobile or tablet</div>
<div class="clearfix"></div>
</div>
Use Column Ordering to accomplish this.
col-md-push-6 will "push" the column to the right 6 and col-md-pull-6 will "pull" the column to the left on "md" or greater view-ports. On any smaller view-ports the columns will be in normal order again.
I think what throws people off, is that you have to put B above A in your HTML. There may be a different way to do this where A can go above B in the HTML, but I'm not sure how to do it...
See Code
<div class="row">
<div class="col-md-6 col-md-push-6">B</div>
<div class="col-md-6 col-md-pull-6">A</div>
</div>
view-port >= md
|A|B|
view-port < md
|B|
|A|
you can do with flex and order as below example.
If it is messing-up with all sites, then give your custom class and then give CSS.
#media screen and (max-width: 531px) {
.row { display: flex; flex-direction: column; }
.two { order: 1; }
.one { order: 2 }
}
<link href="https://cdnjs.cloudflare.com/ajax/libs/twitter-bootstrap/4.1.3/css/bootstrap.min.css">
<div class="row">
<div class="col-md-3 one">Left side</div>
<div class="col-md-9 two">Right side, but first on mobile or tablet</div>
<div class="clearfix"></div>
</div>
I am trying to make a responsive design on the page using bootstrap grid.
Here is my HTML:
<div class="row row-2">
<div class = "col-sm-4 col-sm-offset-2">
<img class="img-responsive header-notebookImg" src="Images/header/notebook.png" alt="">
</div>
<div class="col-sm-4 body-slogan">
<p class="body-slogan"> Save<span class="body-slogan-word">your</span> ideas with this application</p>
</div>
</div>
The css file only contains fonts and sizes. My question is: When I resize the page to trigger bootstrap extra small column class is it possible to put the second column on the top?
With code above the second column goes on the bottom. I can't interchange the content of the columns as I want first column to be on the left on the bigger screen.
Thanks in advance!
If you're using Bootstrap 4 it's pretty simple with flex-direction: column-reverse;.
Here's a simple example with Bootstrap 4. Just wrap the row's into a container with display: flex; and give it a flex-direction: column-reverse;`.
.row {
background: #f8f9fa;
margin-top: 20px;
}
.reverse {
display: flex;
flex-direction: column-reverse;
}
.col {
border: solid 1px #6c757d;
padding: 10px;
}
/* Desktop View */
#media (min-width: 1281px) {
.reverse {
flex-direction: column;
}
}
<link href="https://maxcdn.bootstrapcdn.com/bootstrap/4.0.0/css/bootstrap.min.css" rel="stylesheet"/>
<div class="container">
<div class="reverse">
<div class="row">
<div class="col">
Row 1
</div>
</div>
<div class="row">
<div class="col">
Row 2
</div>
</div>
</div>
</div>
you can do something like this if you don't want use bs4 or don't know how to use display:flex.
don't forget to change the class names as you want
.row-2 {
direction: rtl;
}
.row-2 .col {
direction: ltr !important;
border: 1px solid #eee;
background: #fefefe;
padding: 1rem;
}
.row-2 .col-md-offset-2{
margin-left: 0;
margin-right: 16.66666667%;
}
<link href="https://maxcdn.bootstrapcdn.com/bootstrap/3.3.7/css/bootstrap.min.css" rel="stylesheet" />
<div class="row row-2">
<div class="col col-md-4 col-sm-12 col-md-offset-2">
<img class="img-responsive header-notebookImg" src="https://artbees-themes-artbees1.netdna-ssl.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/jupiter-x-bootstrap-logo.jpg" alt="">
</div>
<div class="col col-md-4 col-sm-12 body-slogan">
<p class="body-slogan"> Save<span class="body-slogan-word">your</span> ideas with this application</p>
</div>
</div>
I see many custom css classes here, bootstrap has built-in css classes for that, no need to write custom ones.
<div class="row">
<div class="col-md-6 col-md-push-6">B</div>
<div class="col-md-6 col-md-pull-6">A</div>
</div>
I try to make a layout with a right column with bootstrap. However, I don't know how to do it in order to have a disposition like this.
I've tried different things but the right column doesn't have the size of the content of the left. I'm on bootstrap 3.
This is what've tried but has you can see the right column doesn't have the height of the 3 left content.

Can you help me?
You can do it using bootstrap rows/cols, and add flexbox on top. You could do this with bootstrap alone if you used bootstrap 4, since it utilizes flex instead of floats for the rows/cols.
<link href="https://cdnjs.cloudflare.com/ajax/libs/twitter-bootstrap/3.3.7/css/bootstrap.min.css" rel="stylesheet">
<style>
.flex {
display: flex;
}
.wrap {
flex-wrap: wrap;
}
.red {
background: red;
}
.blue {
background: blue;
}
.yellow {
background: yellow;
}
.green {
background: green;
}
</style>
<div class="container">
<div class="row flex">
<div class="col-xs-8">
<div class="row flex wrap">
<div class="col-xs-6 red">1</div>
<div class="col-xs-6 yellow">2</div>
<div class="col-xs-12 blue">3</div>
</div>
</div>
<div class="col-xs-4 green">4</div>
</div>
</div>
Looks like what you are wanting to do is something like:
<div class="row equal-height-cols">
<div class="col-md-8">
<div class="row">
<div class="col-md-6"></div>
<div class="col-md-6"></div>
<div class="col-md-12"></div>
</div>
</div>
<div class="col-md-4"></div>
</div>
.equal-height-cols{
display: flex;
flex-wrap: wrap;
justify-content: stretch;
}
You will need to pus some content in there to see it in action, but that should set you up with what you are looking for.
*edit: misunerstood exact meaning of questions, updated
You can use flexbox, it is the best approach for this, or your can use your right column as a absolute position and make it height: 100% and width: 100%, providing a max-width size, please see: https://css-tricks.com/snippets/css/a-guide-to-flexbox/
Here you have a codepen demo :D

My homepage consists of multiple blocks(top part/mid part/bottom part). I've created a row for each block. I want to add some space between my blocks in Bootstrap. Can I simply give my rows id's and add some margin, or is this wrong?
Structure of my code:
<div class="container" id="ho_main_content">
<div class="row">
<div class="col-md-12 text-center"></div>
</div>
<div class="row">
<div class="col-md-12"></div>
</div>
<div class="row">
<div class="col-md-6"></div>
<div class="col-md-6"></div>
</div>
</div>
This "answer" of mine should really be a comment; however, I don't have enough rep.
For an answer, yes, give the divs with the row class another class, probably something like this, spacing the top and bottom of each 10px:
.part {
margin: 10px 0;
}
An important thing to think about when using frameworks like bootstrap is that it isn't the end of the world if you modify the components or spacing or something. Some things won't look like you want them to; just give them extra classes, or if you are desperate, use the !important flag. It was built on the same technology, after all.
In bootstrap 5 I add g-0 to g-5 class with row class to add space around each col.
EX.
<div class="row g-3">
<div class="col">...</div>
<div class="col">...</div>
</div>
https://getbootstrap.com/docs/5.0/layout/gutters/
/*you can create your own custom css for use here is some example*/
.border {
border: 1px solid red; /* just to make sure space between blocks*/
}
.margin-top {
margin-top: 5px;
}
.nopad{
padding:0 ;
}
div[class*='spacer-'] { display: block; }
.spacer-mini { height: 20px; }
.spacer-small { height: 40px; }
.spacer-medium { height: 60px; }
.spacer-big { height: 100px; }

im trying to use bootstrap for a site, but what i am trying to achieve to have to columns within a row col-sm-6. Where i want one column to be in an ordinary container and the other to have container fluid effect.
So it would one column as normal and the other column as full width. So far this has been difficult to do:
<div class="container">
<div class="row">
<div class="col-sm-6 first">
</div>
<div class="col-sm-6 second">
</div>
</div>
</div>
http://jsfiddle.net/8fyjtn09/
i think i figured it out, instead of using a normal container i would have to use container fluid as i said before but just an offset
<div class="container-fluid">
<div class="row">
<div class="col-sm-offset-2 col-xs-4 first">
</div>
<div class="col-sm-6 second">
</div>
</div>
</div>
Do you know flex-box layout in CSS ?
As i understand your question, i believe that on wider screens you want to have first column fixed and second column should be responsive. And for a smaller screen you want the default bootstrap behaviour. If this is what you are looking for, i have created a simple fiddle. Please check that and let me know if this is helpful.
Here is the link : https://jsfiddle.net/YameenYasin/7zaxx06z/23/
<link rel="stylesheet" href="https://maxcdn.bootstrapcdn.com/bootstrap/3.3.2/css/bootstrap.min.css">
<div class="container">
<div class="row flexbox">
<div class="first">
</div>
<div class="second">
</div>
</div>
</div>
.flexbox {
display: -webkit-flex;
-webkit-flex-flow: row; // Children elements will be in rows
-webkit-flex-wrap: wrap;
width: 100%;
}
.first
{
border:1px solid red;
height:50px;
width:200px;
}
.second{
border:1px solid green;
width:100%;
-webkit-flex: 1;
height:50px;
}
#media (max-width: 767px) {
.flexbox {
-webkit-flex-flow: column;
}
.first,.second{
width:100%;
}
