I'm experiencing an error with SSRS reports executed that take over 1 minute to return data. This is a sporadic error i.e. sometimes the reports fail but sometimes they run. This is only for manually executed reports, subscriptions work fine.
System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException: The specified network name is no longer available. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070040)
This is pointing me to Networking issues obviously.
We do have a separate box providing traffic management features and HTTPS - the actual SSRS box is running HTTP.
I wonder if anyone has seen this error?
Try the following setting in the report -> Properties -> Execution:
If it doesn't help try to increase to 10000 and see if it makes any change
This issue was caused by limitations in the Traffic Manager.

Hope it's the right place to ask this question - usually I use SO to ask about programming...
I'm doing a project that involves Crystal Reports Server. From code, I'm able to schedule reports successfully, but when I look at the BI launch pad I don't see the report in My Recently Run Documents (I see failed reports in that list - ones that has wrong database credentials).
When I go to Central Management Console and I find my reports in folders and I go to Properties > History I see the report status as "Running" - and it has been like that for a long while (too long than it should) for 2 different reports I have sent.
How can I diagnose what the problem is? and why it is stuck? there are no error messages anywhere about it.
How can I get a full history of all reports in the system (not just one single report at a time)? and how can I see currently running reports?
How can I stop a running report?
I really hope this is the right place for these kind of questions... if not, would be very happy to get a referral.
Thanks
How can I get a full history of all reports in the system?
Open the CMC and then click on the Instance Manager. At the bottom of the page, you can filter on the object type and status. That way, you can get a full overview of all running reports on your platform.
How can I stop a running report?
If you select a running instance (either in a document's history page or in the Instance Manager), you'll notice that there is no stop button. Instead, you have to delete the running instance. It might not stop running immediately though (depending on what it's doing), but it will be removed immediately from the list of instances.
How can I diagnose what the problem is?
What I would recommend is to enable tracing on all related servers (thus your job server, processing server, etc) and then retry scheduling the report. This should generate additional logging on the server which you can use to diagnose the issue.
The trace files have the extension .glf (generic log file) and are located in the logging folder on your Crystal Server. Have a look at the command-line property of each of the servers for which you're enabling the tracing, you should find a log folder there somewhere.
Make sure to turn the tracing off again as soon as you're finished, as tracing will not only create extra strain on your servers (causing the system to slow down), but it will also result in very large log files.
Before starting with tracing, have a look at the existing log files to see if it doesn't already contain error messages that might help you diagnose the issue. Sort the log files by date, and look at the most recent one for each of the servers involved. If there's nothing in there, start with tracing, but remove the existing .glf files to minimise log contamination (some files will be locked, just ignore them).
I am using Dynamics CRM 2013 on premise.
I have built all the reports based on stored procedures in SSRS.
one report however, that has no issue with execution definitions, permissions or what ever,
once executed causes to browser to crash (any browser, i tried FF, Chrome, IE9 and up, )
it seems the problem is not a report execution problem but a report rendering problem for this specific report.
I cannot cache the report or make a snapshot of it, as the values of the reports also depends on the user running the report (among other parameters user-defined) and each user should get a different result. - i have more than 400 users.
I have tried searching for any one who had face this kind of issue and reported on it but failed. hence decided to post this question my self.
if anyone has any idea, please share.
thanks
Have you enabled tracing/logging in SSRS? http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms156500.aspx
You might turn on verbose logging while trying to run the report to see if you can get more helpful information.
If you write code, you can write a .NET application that calls the SSRS web services to render the report. Doing that will help you know for certain whether it's a browser rendering issue since you can get back the report as a byte array and save it to disk as Word, PDF, etc.
I have some users intermittently receiving this error 'Unable to read data from the transport connection—The connection was closed' when viewing an ssrs report through the ReportViewer control.
The user can access the SSRS via web browser and not replicate the error
On multiple pages reports the first page loads and where it states 'Page 1 of totalPages' this totalPages counts up as the rest of the pages are loaded. Half the time it doesn't display an error but not all pages are loaded.
We are running SSRS express within a windows application.
SQL Express installation is a named instance
When it happens the screen hangs for around 2 minutes
It occurs on a couple of reports but not others different reports. It's not data amount related, sometimes 50 page reports come through OK and sometimes 2 page reports fail.
If it fails the user can run the report again and it usually works the next time. Sometimes it takes 3-4 goes.
Nothing has changed recently, I'm told this was always the case but they never reported it.
I tried giving the single shared ssrs datasource sa user credentials - no change
Some reports appear to load OK everytime while others error out or only load a couple of pages.
What I have tried so far:
I cannot replicate this error from our remote client, I just ran 20 successful reports no dramas from within another client installed on the same network. But I can replicate it from the users computer with both my account and their account.
I cannot see anything relevant in 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSRS10_50.MyInstance\Reporting Services\LogFiles'.
Thanks in advance for tips on where to look for clues and ways to resolve this issue..
I have resolved this by removing the ReportViewer UI control and we are now creating a pdf of the report using ReportViewer.ServerReport.Render() and opening with Process.Start(). The client only wants a pdf or a print out so we don't need the report viewer as such.
I'm not sure why the connection was closed at times, maybe it's network related as I couldn't replicate on a machine located physically next to the server. Either way this is resolved, onto the next project!
I am not getting this error locally in VS 2005
or when running the report through the preview
but during subscription I start getting
ReportParameterValueNotSetException
even though all my parameters especially the one it's complaining about is set
this has started happening all of a sudden and has been working great before.
Any ideas why this might have happened
You could try deploying the report with a different name and see if subscriptions for it have the same problem. If it does not, then blame cosmic rays. It happens. In that case, delete the old report entirely from the server and then you should be able to deploy with the original name again.
If it continues to happen, then I'd start looking at what's different between running it live and running it through a subscription. Usually it's permissions related. Or perhaps the time of day the subscription fires off vs the time of day you test it live.
Is the parameter value used for the subscription hard coded, or is it based on another query?
If the latter
- does the query used for this param gen purpose work?
- does it return the correct datatype/expected data?
- does it work at the time you are running the report (database is online, has permissions set correctly)?
So I'm working with SSRS (SQL Server 2005), which some of our applications use to generate downloads. The problem with it, though, is that the Reports website that is used to manage it seems to crash randomly. I haven't yet figured out a rhyme or reason to it - only that it will suddenly bust out with a 'Specified cast is not valid' exception and any further attempts to do anything will fail with
The item '/' cannot be found (RsItemNotFound)
Is there a place I can start looking to help me debug this issue? Are there logs that might have more in-depth information than the useless error messages I'm getting?
Is there anything in the standard event logs? You'll probably find lots of logs to go through in (C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.3\Reporting Services\LogFiles)...that's the default path at least.
we have a web app at where i work that occasinally, after it's been left alone for a while, has to "recompile" and will take a few seconds before it'll show a page. i've noticed that ssrs does this at times, and it might or might not be causing your problem.
you could test this by setting up an instance of ssrs on your local machine (that you know no one will get on) and running your downloads against that.
also, check and make sure no one is turning anything off or doing any backups when you are doing the downloads.
