How do you establish a connection to a running MySQL server from Workbench on Windows? According to the MySQL Installer, it MySQL Server 5.7.20 is installed in Program Files. Upon test connection to localhost, I receive error code 10061: Can't connect to MySQL server on 127.0.0.1
Try to add exception to firewall to allow SQL server service and check. Might be firewall blocking this connection on your system.
select server Option From menu bar at top-left corner in MySQL Workbench
Then click on StartUpShutdown Option
then Click on Start Server Button
provide password to localhost server
then your MySQL server will get started

I recently installed mysql and mysql workbench on my manjaro machine. As for mysql itself, it works perfectly. I can start the service, connect using terminal and do my usual work without any trouble.
The problem is that mysql workbench can't, for the life of me, connect to mysql. Always returning the same your connection attempt failed for user 'root' to the mysql server at 127.0.0.1:3306: SSL connection error: SSL is required but the server doesn't support it error.
Even when I try the Rescan servers option on mysql workbench it returns No servers were found.
I am trying to create a project with mysql. For the past two days I had been using XAMPP server for the mysql server and mysql workbench to use it and it has been working perfectly. Today after having to restart my pc for a windows update, when I turned on the XAMPP mysql server and tried going to my connection in mysql workbench, mysql workbench is giving me an error
Could not connect; Server may not be running Message: Lost connection to mysql server at 'waiting for initial communication packet'. system error 10060
I have tried multiple solutions; Changing the port of the mysql server. Using a different username and password, the root username. And have tried restarting my computer multiple times to fix the problem. If any more information is needed to find the problem I will update this question to provide more information.
UPDATE 1:
I left my laptop running and when I returned the workbench had connected successfully. I believe the problem comes from restarting the pc as the day after I posted this question I restarted my pc to fix a problem and I am currently having the same situation.
Maybe the problem is the Windows Firewall or the Antivirus.
If the server is running all the time and the service not stop, the port is blocked.
Check if the default port is Listening:
C:\Windows\System32>netstat -an |find "3306"
Or you can use the Microsoft Tool PortQry.exe download from:
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=17148
Example of use:
C:\PortQryV2>PortQry.exe -n 127.0.0.1 -e 3306
Querying target system called:
127.0.0.1
Attempting to resolve IP address to a name...
IP address resolved to WF-SA02
querying...
TCP port 3306 (unknown service): LISTENING
C:\PortQryV2>
Might be an SSL problem. The problem is: XAMPP does not use SSL and MySQL Workbench uses SSL as a default setting.
You can select "If available" in the Use SSL dropdown box of the SSL tab of the connection pane. Use the tool icon in the startup window to edit already existing connections. Works in MySQL Workbench 8.0.28+
I have InstallShield 2013 basic MSI project. During installer execution I need to connect to MySQL Server which is running on 3310 port. Default port is 3306 and installation runs successfully, but when I try to connect to server with different port - installer cannot connect to MySQL server.
I tried to set custom port like described here
ServerName,3310
But it didn't work for me. I also tried to connect by IP of server and port delimited with ":" but it also had no effect.
When I try to connect to server by typing hostname I get this error: "Can't connect to MySQL server on 'hostname'"
When I try to connect to MySQL server by typing hostname, port I get the following error: "Unknown MySQL server host 'hostname, port'"
Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong or what I need to do to connect to MySQL server with custom port?
I have installed MySQL Server 5.5 on Windows Server 2008 R2 and configured it to shared-memory mode. Evetything is fine, but I have also installed Workbench program but I can't connect to the service - I get the Can't connect to MySQL server on '127.0.0.1' (10061) error. So, how to connect to that server using localhost ?
SOLVED
I had to add to the MySQL Server my.ini config file enable-named-pipe option, and then in the Workbench, create New Connection and select Connection Method to Local Socket/Pipe. I have left the Socket/Pipe path textbox blank
In this question I am using Windows 7 32-bit, and MySQL Workbench 5.2.35 CE Rev 7915
I'm trying to create and connect to a mysql database on my localhost. It seems obvious. I should start up Workbench, go to Server Administration -> New Server Instance, tick the 'localhost' radio button and follow the wizard. But I get to the 'Test DB Connection' step and it fails to 'Open Database Connection'. The Message Log says:
Connecting to MySQL server localhost...
Can't connect to MySQL server on '127.0.0.1' (10061)
Now, my question is this: Am I supposed to have already installed and started up a MySQL server on my localhost with some tool or program other than Workbench? It seems like this wizard is just supposed to create a connection to an already existing mysql server, but I don't know how to create a server on my localhost. I hoped Workbench would provide a way to do all of this: Create MySQL server, start it up, connect to it, query it, etc. but it seems like maybe it can only connect to already existing servers.
What should I do to create a MySQL server on my local machine and connect to it with MySQL Workbench?
You can't. MySQL Server and MySQL Workbench are separate products, as Workbench is a GUI to the Server. To install both, download "MySQL Installer for Windows" and (by default) it will install both (and other) MySQL products.
