I'm using an expression for a report connection string but when I upload the report to the report manager (2017 June) and save the credentials in the data source setting the text box that contains the expression gets cleared out.
The same report works fine in SSRS 2014.
I've tried using IE, Chrome and Edge and get the same behaviour.
before save
after save
I had a similar issue in ReportServer 2017; however, if you click the button 'Revert to Default' (a button displayed in the same screen) the Expression based connection string will magically reappear!
Nice feature - if you find it ;-)

We have 1 report that's being exported to PDF manually in the web page.
However, when we update a certain value, the new value can be seen in the table but when we tried exporting the data, it keep showing the old value in the report.
The stored procedure used in the report is showing the new value.
It works fine when running the VS 2013.
I am not sure if caching is enabled in our report server but in that RDL file, we did not explicitly specify to cached the data as shown below.
Processing Options Screenshot
Snapshot Options Screenshot
Parameter Settings Screenshot
There are no RDL.Data files in the report server as well and other reports are extracted to PDF and its working fine.
Do you have any idea or did I missed something that needs to be checked?
Thank you.
I am facing a peculiar issue in a report using SSRS. When I run the report in BIDS the report runs fine. When I deploy to my report server - we are using sharepoint integrated mode - a particular section is hidden. When I export to PDF from the report server the section magically appears.
The section does have some visibility criteria set but its not on render formats - instead on fields.
BTW - this is the expression I am using:
=IIF(Fields!Item16Status.Value = "NA", True, False).
Also this is happening only for one particular value of input parameters.
I have included the screenshots from BIDS and server for reference here.
Any suggestions to resolve this would be great.
Thanks.
I got a report with 2 data sources and both are Shared Data source. I am trying to change both of them to Custom Data Source but when I re-upload the report in my Report Manager, it won't work.
Edit: I don't have an error because the report successfully uploads, but the data source doesn't change. If I have a field in the report, the report shows the new field, but the data source stays the same.
This might be because of caching that SSRS does with the datasource for the report on the server. Do the new datasources have the same name as the old ones?
You could create the custom datasources in the DataSources tab in the Manage menu for the report in the report manager.
To do this open up the Report Menu by click on the "..." then selecting Manage
Then click on the Data Sources Tab, then change the data source to Custom Datasource.
Then set up the datasource like you did in the report, you will need to select SQL Server for the Connection, add the connection string and choose the authentication type which in the image below is windows authentication but I am not sure how it is set up on your server. Then click Test Connection. Then Click Save (make sure you click Save before navigating away).
Or you could delete the old report in the report manager and then upload it again. Note that deleting the report will delete any schedules and other customization you have done ie. Name and Description.
Is there an error message? It won't work could be a bunch of things. I'd upload a picture of the error or whatever screen you can't get past. Let me know when you can do that, then it will be easier to troubleshoot. If you can't upload an image than I would:
Check your datasource connections are correct.
Check your datasets are using the correct connection.
This is a setting thats controlled from the deployment properties of the visual studio SSRS project. Right click the project name and select Properties. Then from the Property section of the general page notice "Overwrite Datasets" & "Overwrite Datasources". Change the one that's necessary and re-deploy to see it updated in the report portal.
I have a report to modify on SSRS (just to add a new column for the table that was created using a custom code function). The table was created using natural key and create "case". I added the natural column for the keys and when I previewed it in SSRS, everything looked perfect! However, when I uploaded it to the server, the report can only select partial selections from a drill-down field/widget. If I choose "select all" for the parameters, it flashes then nothing happens (neither an error message nor data is shown).
It was running fine and I was able to select all the selections for the report in Visual Studio and even extract it in Excel. I thought it was a credential problem, so I used my ID and password for the credentials, but it still did not work.
I tried to deploy the original report that was downloaded from the server, but it wasn't working (even without any changes).
Thank you.
In order to populate a textbox in a page header I am setting up a parameter (as you cannot use Fields) and referencing this in the textbox. The parameter has the Default Value set to "From Query" and the Dataset and Value Field are set accordingly. This works a treat in developmentt in Visual Studio 2005. Once I have deployed the report and am viewing the report in the ReportViewer control I get the error:
"Parameter validation failed. It is not possible to provide valid values for all parameters. (rsParameterError)".
If I remove the parameter, the report works fine.
(Strange thing is that I thought I had this working earlier).
You've probably checked, but has the default value copied over? I've had issues in the past with reporting services where the default values were lost when I moved a report from one box to another.
Thanks for the answer - it has pointed me in the right direction...I have been using my own program to deploy multiple reports so rarely look at them via the Report Manager website. Anyway - I just deployed the report on my home PC and it worked fine....looking at the report in Report Manager on both PCs I found that "Prompt User" on the PC that wasn't working was not ticked...go figure. Ticking this resolved the problem.
I am liking the results that I am getting from SSRS, but I am quite new to it and am finding some things (like this) a little frustating...mouse and keyboard are lucky to not find themselves thrown out the window!
