I'm struggling to understand how passing a variable stored in the body as a parameter of throwException.
This is my code:

So you are using the Simple language in Java but you have some syntax issues. Nothing major. Your do not complete the delimiter of the Simple expression. Also you dont have to concatenate the string.
Change the code:
.throwException(new IllegalArgumentException("Action not allowed- Error code:" + ${body[errorCode]))
To:
.throwException(new IllegalArgumentException("Action not allowed- Error code: ${body[errorCode]}"))

How do I test if an assertion is thrown by the method under test using junit? Heres the method I'm testing:

You can test it by providing parameter in #Test annotation:
#Test(expected = AssertionError.class)

This will check if the AssertException is thrown.
However, if you want to ensure that this function wont be run with incorrect parameters, you have to be aware that assertions can be turned off by running java with -da parameters.
To ensure that exception is thrown I would suggest throwing IllegalArgumentException inside some validation method, and to provide it with proper message. Then you will be sure that this will always throw exception when incorrect parameters are provided.
I am trying to use PowerMockito to mock the creation of the java.net.URL class in my code that I'm testing. Basically, I want to prevent the real HTTP request from occurring and instead 1) check the data when the request is made and 2) supply my own test data back on a mocked response. This is what I'm trying:

Earlier in my test scenario I mock the wlInvokeUrlString to match "MyURLString". I've also tried using various other forms of the whenNew line, trying to inject the mock. No matter what I try, it never intercepts the constructor. All I want to do is "catch" the call to openConnection() and have it return my mocked HTTP connection instead of the real one.
I have mocked other classes ahead of this one in the same script and these are working as expected. Either I need a second pair of eyes (probably true) or there is something unique about the URL class. I did notice that if I use "whenNew(URL.class).withAnyArguments()" and change the "thenReturn" to "thenAnswer" I could get it to trigger. Only problem is I never get the URL call for my code. What I see is an invocation of the 3-argument constructor for URL.class with all nulls for the parameters. Could it be this class is from the Java runtime and is bootstrapped by the test runner? Any help is much appreciated.
It's a common mistake when use PowerMockito.whenNew.
Note that you must prepare the class creating the new instance of MyClass for test, not the MyClass itself. E.g. if the class doing new MyClass() is called X then you'd have to do #PrepareForTest(X.class) in order for whenNew to work

I'm not sure the difference between .withParameterTypes(x) and .withArguments(x) but I believe you need to set it up as follows for your code to work. Give it a try and let me know if this doesn't help.

The problem is that the arguments of the real call are not matching with the expected in your mock.
PowerMockito.whenNew(URL.class).withParameterTypes(String.class).withArguments("MyURLString").thenReturn(mockedURL) will return mockedURL only the call is new URL("MyURLString").
If you change it to:
PowerMockito.whenNew( URL.class ).withParameterTypes( String.class )
.withArguments( org.mockito.Matchers.any( String.class ) ).thenReturn( mockedURL );
It will catch any string passed to the constructor URL(String) (even null) and return your mock.
When you tried

PowerMock will try to mock all constructors (org.powermock.api.mockito.internal.expectation.DelegatingToConstructorsOngoingStubbing.InvokeStubMethod at line 122) then it calls the first one (with 3 arguments) and mock its answer. But the subsequent calls will return the already mocked one because you told it to mock for any arguments. That's why you see just one call with null, null, null in your Answer.
for the line of assert below, Eclipse gives an error: Type mismatch: cannot convert from double to boolean. Anyone knows why?

I think it should be result == 160.934 instead of result = 160.934
Don't forget that assert is a Java keyword, not a JUnit method, and as such it is normally ignored unless you specify -ea on the command line. JUnit runs do not normally specifiy this argument to the JVM.
I am running into an extremely strange behavior in Groovy. When I throw an exception from a closure in a Script, the end exception that was thrown was different.
Here are the code and the details:

So the plan is that when I run the main() method in TestDelegate, it will run the DSL script, which calls for the method method(). Not finding it in the script, it will invoke methodMissing, which then invokes method() from myDelegate, which in turns invoke the closure, setting the delegate to the testDelegate. So far, so good. Then the closure is supposed to try printing out "a", which is not defined and will thus set off propertyMissing, which will will throw MyOwnException.
When I run the code, however, I get the following output:
Will throw error now!
Exception in thread "main" groovy.lang.MissingPropertyException: No such property: a for class: TestDelegate
Now, it must have reached that catch block, since it printed "Will throw error now!" It must have thrown MyOwnException too! But somewhere along the lines, MyOwnException was converted to MissingPropertyException, and I have no idea why. Does anyone have any idea?
P.S. if I remove closure.setResolveStrategy(Closure.DELEGATE_FIRST) from TestDelegate#method(), the code acts as expected and throws MyOwnException. But I really need the setResolveStrategy(Closure.DELEGATE_FIRST) for my DSL project. And I would prefer to know the root cause of this rather than just removing a line or two and see that it works without understanding why.
I think this is what essentially happens: With a delegate-first resolve strategy, the Groovy runtime first tries to access property a on myDelegate, which results in a MissingPropertyException because no such property exists. Then it tries propertyMissing, which causes a MyOwnException to be thrown. Eventually the runtime gives up and rethrows the first exception encountered (a design decision), which happens to be the MissingPropertyException.
With an owner-first resolve strategy, propertyMissing is consulted first, and hence MyOwnException is eventually rethrown.
Looking at the stack trace and source code underneath should provide more evidence.
I am getting time out from using JsonpRequestBuilder.

Maybe you should set the callback function explicitly via setCallbackParam, since you have callback=insertAgenda in your url - I presume that informs the server what should be the name of the callback function that wraps the JSON.
Also, it's worth checking Firebug's console (or a similar tool for your browser) - even if GWT doesn't report any exceptions, Firebug still might.
PS: It's useful to use a tool like Firebug to see if the application does in fact receive the response from the server (that would mean that, for example, you do need the setCallbackParam call) or maybe there's something wrong on the server side (for whatever reason).
You have to read the callback request-Parameter (default callback, value something like __gwt_jsonp__.P0.onSuccess) on serversite and have to modify the output to
<callback>(<json>);

Both of these guys are absolutely correct, but here is a concrete example to help you understand exactly what they are referring too.
This is a public JSON api. Take a look at the results:

This public API supports JSONP through the predefined parameter 'callback'. Basically whatever value you pass into callback, will be used as the function name to wrap around the JSON data you desire. Take a look at the results of these few requests:

It could be happening because of another reason, that the webservice call is returning a JSON object and but the callback is expecting JSONP object (note there is a difference).
So if you are dealing with google maps api, and you are seeing this exception, you need to change it to api provide by maps api, something like
