MySQL : Row size to large - in VB Net - mysql

I've searched for this subject on the site, and found some tips, but non of them is working for me.
In VB net I am making a table in MySQL (InnoDB), first I will make all the columns and then I fill them with data. But when I am trying to make a table with many columns, I get this error:
Row size to large. The maximum row size for the used table type, not counting BLOBs, is 8126. This includes storage overhead, check the manual. You have to change some columns to TEXT or BLOBs.
It is crashing when I want more then 196 columns.
I already tried the row format at compressed, but then my maximum is 186 columns (?!). The maximum amount of columns is 300 for my project. I've searched n the config of mySQL workbench 6.3, but can't find the solution. So currently my settings are standard by wizard creation. All the data in the table is TEXT.

mysql table specification for numerous varchar fields

I have a table with over 100 columns imported from Access into mysql. the table will be displayed in the typical shared hosting apache environment using PHP and HTML. Almost all fields were coming in as varchar(255). This caused errors of oversize row length on import so i switched many of them to text(0) for import. I would like to make these fields have a size and varchar type so I can index them for search speed. Each of the fields will only contain maybe at most 10 words.
I need to the fields to be set to as small as they can be so I don't push past mysql row maximum.
How do I calculate the size I need for the varchar?
I am a noob at mysql so if I am asking something wrong or lack understanding please explain.

Getting an approximation of a MySql database entry

I hava a database with the following structure.
How can I determine, what storage space will a number of such entries take, if:
I'll run this on a MySql server (innoDB). The int columns will have small values (1-30 at most), except one, which will have a value between [1-400].
There will be 40 entries produced every day.
Mysql manual has a section on data type storage space. Since you are using numbers and dates, which are stored on fixed length, it is pretty easy to estimate the storage space: each integer column requires 4 bytes (even if you store the numeric value of 1 in it), the date column requires 3 bytes.
You may reduce the storage requirements by using smaller integer types.
What you have described comes in the "tiny" category. After adding the 40 entries for the first day, you will be a few hundred bytes, occupying one 16KB InnoDB block.
After a year, you might have a megabyte -- still "tiny" as database tables go.
Switch to SMALLINT, add UNSIGNED if appropriate; that will cut it down noticeably. Follow the various links in the comments and other answers; they give you more insight.

max number of columns in a mysql table error

I have reached the limit set on the row size of a table, so I'm not able to add any more columns to the table.
I'm getting the following error:

I have researched this issue on the MySQL website, but am still unsure about how to fix this problem.
Does anyone know how I can fix this issue, and what setting or script that I would need to run to modify the setting so it allows me to add more columns to the table?
Why is your row size 64k to begin with? That is your problem. Not the setting being too low.

Each table has an .frm file that contains the table definition. The
server uses the following expression to check some of the table
information stored in the file against an upper limit of 64KB:

So it's not likely something you can easily change (short of modifying source code and running a custom MySQL. Give us your schema and we might be able to better advise, but the short answer would seem to be that you have too many columns, or need to change some VARCHARs etc. to be text/blob.
Without seeing the (likely abomination of a) schema, it's hard to advise.

saving base64 data - row size too large issue

I have 22 database fields of type longtext. If I try saving 12 of the fields with the following data I get the following error:

How can I fix the issue? How can I increase the bytes of the row size so it is more than 8126?

Columns of type Varchar's, text, and blob arent included in the innodb row size limit.. so if you have a lot of columns that aren't you can get that error.
I had a load of char(1)'s that I changed to varchar and it fixed the problem nicely

SQL Server maximum 8KB per row?

I just happened to read the Maximum Capacity Specification for SQL Server 2008 and saw a maximum of 8060bytes per row? What the... Only 8KB per row allowed? (Yes, I saw "row-overflow storage" special handling, I'm talking about standard behavior)
Did I misunderstand something here? I'm sure I have, because I'm sure I saw binary objects with several MB sizes stored inside SQL Server databases. Does this ominous per row really mean a table row as in one row, multiple columns?

Yes, you'll get a warning on CREATE TABLE, an error on INSERT or UPDATE
LOB types (nvarchar(max), varchar(max) and varbinary(max) allow 2Gb-1 bytes which is how you'd store large chunks of data and is what you'd have seen before.
For a single field > 4000 characters/8000 bytes I'd use nvarchar(max)
For 3 x nvarchar(4000) in one row I'd consider one of:
my design is wrong
nvarchar(max) for one or more column
1:1 child table for the "least populated" columns
2008 will handle the overflow while in 2000, it would simply refuse to insert a record that overflowed. However, it is still best to design with this in mind because a significant number of records overflowed might cause some performance issues in querying. In the case you described, I might consider a related table with a column for document type, a large field for document and and a foreign key to the intial table. If however it is unlikey that all three columns would be filled in the same record or at the max values, then the design might be fine. You have to know your data to determine which is best. Another consideration is to continue as you have now until you have problems and then replace with a separate document table. You could even refactor by renaming the existing table and creating a new one and then creating a view with the existing tablename that pulls the data from the new structure. This could keep alot of your code from breaking although you would still have to adjust any insert or update statements.
