I am having css problem here. I am trying to place my play button at the middle of an image and couple of text lines beneath it. What I am chasing is similar to an audio player where the image is the cover picture, the button is the play icon and the 3lines of texts. I dont even know where to start. my html are...
.track {
width: 400px;
height: 400px
}
.track-info {
display: inline-block;
float: left;
width: 160px;
height: auto;
}
img {
width: 400px;
height: 400px;
position: absolute
}
<div class="track">
<img src="image.jpg">
<div>
<button>playbutton</button>
</div>
<div class="track-info">
<h3>Artist Name</h3>
<h4>Track title</h4>
<h5>Any text</h5>
</div>
</div>
I have played a round with left, right and top margins but it Looks like positioning and displays is the only way to solve it for me
Assuming you want the button to be in the middle of the image, with the text below, you'll want the button to have position: absolute, along with a top and left offset that is a calculation based on the size of the image. I've given the button <div> the class of .play for clarity in this example :
.track img {
width: 400px;
height: 400px;
}
.track .play {
position: absolute;
top: calc((400px / 2) - (22px / 2)); /* Half image height minus half button height */
left: calc((400px / 2) - (78px / 2)); /* Half image width minus half button width */
}
<div class="track">
<img src="http://placehold.it/100">
<div class="play">
<button>playbutton</button>
</div>
<div class="track-info">
<h3>Artist Name</h3>
<h4>Track title</h4>
<h5>Any text</h5>
</div>
</div>
Hope this helps! :)
Put the button in a text absolutely positioned to the center, then absolutely position the track info below that centered element. That will put the button in the center, with the text centered underneath.
You can also make the image a background image of .track though I didn't do that. Commented out the CSS you would use to do that, then you would remove the img from your html and the img block in your css.
.track {
/* background: url('https://i.stack.imgur.com/2C22p.jpg') 0 0 no-repeat / cover; */
width: 400px;
height: 400px;
position: relative;
background: url('') 0 0 no-repeat / cover;
}
.centered {
position: absolute;
top: 50%; left: 50%;
transform: translate(-50%,-50%);
}
.track-info {
position: absolute;
top: 100%;
width:160px;
left: 50%;
transform: translateX(-50%);
text-align: center;
}
img {
width: 400px;
height: 400px;
position: absolute;
}
<div class="track">
<img src="https://i.stack.imgur.com/2C22p.jpg">
<div class="centered">
<button>playbutton</button>
<div class="track-info">
<h3>Artist Name</h3>
<h4>Track title</h4>
<h5>Any text</h5>
</div>
</div>
</div>
Your issue is with positioning you should try :
.image-div {
position: relative;
}
.button {
position: absolute;
top :150px;
left:190px;
}
<div class="img-div">
<img src="https://i.ytimg.com/vi/5dsGWM5XGdg/hqdefault.jpg"/>
<button class="button">Click me</button>
</div>
For align Horizontal use margin:0 auto
For align Vertical use Formula:((parent's width /2) + (width / 2))
img {
width: 400px;
height: 400px;
}
.track {
position: relative;
width: 400px;
height: 400px;
}
.center {
position: relative;
width: 200px;
height: 200px;
display: block;
text-align: center;
margin: 0 auto;/*align Horizontal */
top: -300px;/*align Vertical:((parent's width /2) + (width / 2))*/
}
.track-info {
background-color: rgba(0,0,0,0.3);
color: #FFF;
}
<div class="track">
<img src="http://www.mrwallpaper.com/wallpapers/cute-bunny-1600x900.jpg">
<div class="center">
<div>
<button>playbutton</button>
</div>
<div class="track-info">
<h3>Artist Name</h3>
<h4>Track title</h4>
<h5>Any text</h5>
</div>
</div>
</div>

Okay, so I thought that the grid was perfectly aligned to the center, only to realise that it was a few pixels out. I completely stripped all of my attempts at centering and looked online but couldn't find anything.
I know I can use CSS Grids, Flexbox etc. but I am trying to learn how to create websites without using any aid. So I can learn the reasoning behind things.
Fiddle:
https://jsfiddle.net/8L9ye7nj/5/
Grid HTML:
<div class="box-wrapper">
<div class="box-container">
<div class="box" id="stethoscope">
<div class="box-label">
<p>Book an appointment</p>
</div>
</div>
<div class="box" id="prescription">
<div class="box-label">
<p>Request a repeat prescription</p>
</div>
</div>
<div class="box" id="group">
<div class="box-label">
<p>Join the Patient Group</p>
</div>
</div>
</div>
</div>
Grid CSS:
.box {
float: left;
width: 25%;
height: 300px;
background-color: #252625;
color: #FFF;
position: relative;
padding: 15px;
margin: 0.5%;
}
.box-label {
position: absolute;
bottom: 0;
text-align: center;
background-color: rgba(0,0,0,0.5);
width: 100%;
padding: 7px 0;
left: 0;
}
.box-label:hover {
animation: box-stretch 1s forwards ease-in-out;
cursor: pointer;
}
.box-container {
width: 90%;
}
.box-container::after {
content: "";
clear: both;
display: table;
}
.box-wrapper {
background-color: #B21645;
padding: 30px;
}
How can you divide the box and center them?
You can use calc to use mathematical expressions to calculate height, widths etc in css. You can divide the width by three here for the box.
.box {
display: inline-block;
width: calc(100% / 3);
}
Things to consider
Mind the space between inline-block elements. You can read more about
that here.
Avoid using floats as much as possible. Most layouts done with float can be achieved with inline-block. Floats are simply meant to take an element, put it to one side, and let other content flow around it. That’s all.
box-wrapper and box-container either one is only needed to wrap the contents inside.

I want a responsive img with text on top. Ive tried several different ways and I semi-get there with a bunch of kinks when I try to make it responsive, so I appreciate if anyone has a simple solution.
JSFiddle
Code snippet demonstration :
.img-fluid {
max-width: 100%;
height: auto;
opacity: 0.4;
}
<div class="container">
<img src="https://phillipbrande.files.wordpress.com/2013/10/random-pic-14.jpg?w=620" class="img-fluid">
<div class="container">
<h1>Header</h1>
</div>
</div>
You can try this , here is the code
<html>
<head>
<style>
.container {
position: relative;
text-align: center;
color: white;
}
.centered {
position: absolute;
top: 50%;
left: 50%;
transform: translate(-50%, -50%);
}
</style>
</head>
<body>
<h2>Image Text within container</h2>
<div class="container">
<img src="abc.jpg" alt="abc" style="width:100%;">
<div class="centered">Centered</div>
</div>
</body>
You can make use of font-size: calc(2vw + 2vh + 2vmin) (tweak around the values to your need) to make text responsive with respect to viewport size :)
.container {
position: relative;
}
.container h1 {
position: absolute;
top: 0;
left: 20px;
font-size: calc(2vw + 2vh + 2vmin);
}
.img-fluid {
max-width: 100%;
height: auto;
opacity: 0.4;
}
<div class="container">
<img src="https://phillipbrande.files.wordpress.com/2013/10/random-pic-14.jpg?w=620" class="img-fluid">
<h1>Header</h1>
</div>
Try setting position to absolute or fixed
.img-fluid{
max-width:100%;
height:auto;
opacity:0.4;
position: absolute;
}
HTML:
<div class="banner">
<img src="images/star.png" class="img-responsive" width="150" height="150" alt="star">
<h2>This is a Star</h2>
</div>
CSS:
.banner img{position:relative; width:100%; height:auto;}
.banner h2{[psition:absolute; left:50%; top:50%; font-size:30px;
line-height:30px;}
for an image use the concept:
{
display: table;
position: relative;
width: 100%;
height: auto;
}
for text to display on image use the concept
{
display: table-cell;
verticl-align: middle;
position: absolute;
}
and adjust the text on image giving top or bottom or left or right}
use the class img-responsive to not to change the width and height of image in all the views.
I'm trying to create a vertically aligned image, but also have it float left with a 10px padding.
Here is what I have so far:
<div class="container">
<div class="header">
<div class="headliner"><strong>blaw</strong>
<br />blah</div>
<div class="header_eta"></div>
</div>
<div class="content">
<div class="dummy"></div>
<div class="img-container">
<img src="http://placehold.it/75x75" alt="" />
</div>
</div>
<div class="footers"></div>
</div>
You can also check out this fiddle.
I can't seem to get the img to float: left. It seems to be centered horizontally. Once the I get the image floated left, I need to float some text to the left side of the image.
UPDATE: Something like this https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0070/7032/files/UberRUSH_Tracking_Page-5_1.png?5766570299208136168
Add text-align:left into img-container with padding-left:10px;
Like this:
.img-container {
position: absolute;
top: 0;
bottom: 0;
left: 0;
right: 0;
text-align:left; /* Align center inline elements */
font: 0/0 a;
padding-left:10px
}
try float:lefton the image, then add a div into img-container also floated left with a suitable margin
<div class="img-container">
<img src="http://placehold.it/75x75" alt="" style="float:left;"/>
<div style="float:left;margin-left:10px;">Your Content</div>
</div>
In order to achieve your desired result, you can use the following CSS code:
/* Positioning */
position: absolute;
top: 50%;
left: 0;
transform: translate(0, -50%);
Setting top: 50% and transform: translate(..., -50%) will center your element vertically.
Setting left: 0 and transform: translate(0, ...) will float your element horizontally to the left.
For optical reference you can check my code work in this fiddle.
<div class="container">
<div class="header">
<div class="headliner"><strong>blaw</strong>
<br />blah</div>
<div class="header_eta"></div>
</div>
<div class="content">
<div class="img-container-2">
<div class="img-cell">
<img src="http://placehold.it/75x75" alt="" />
</div>
</div>
</div>
<div class="footer"> </div>
</div>
<style type="text/css">
.content {height:300px; background-color:rgb(239, 65, 59);}
.header {height:60px; background-color:rgb(55, 102, 199);}
.img-container-2 {display:table; height:100%; width:100%; text-align:left;}
.img-cell {display:table-cell; vertical-align:middle;}
.headliner {padding:10px; height:50px;}
.footer {height:40px; background-color:rgb(66, 199, 123);}
</style>
img-container text align to left;
text-align: left;
here you code
.img-container {
position: absolute;
top: 10px;
bottom: 0;
left: 10px;
right: 0;
text-align: left;
/* Align center inline elements */
font: 0/0 a;
}
Once the I get the image floated left I need to float some text to the left side of the image.
So you will need to align two divs horrizontaly. For this you will need to use display: inline-block for both of them. By using this approach, you will need to put the image inside a div, and the text inside another div.
You could also make a table with the first td containing the text and the second td containing the image. Then float table to left.
Do you need like this,
Html code:
<div class="container">
<div class="header">
<div class="headliner"><strong>" blaw "</strong><br />" IS EN ROUTE "</div>
<div class="header_eta"></div>
</div>
<div class="content">
<div class="dummy"></div>
<div class="img-container">
<img src="http://placehold.it/75x75" alt="" />
</div>
</div>
<div class="footer">sdfsd</div>
</div>
css:
.content {
height: 100px;
position: relative;
width: 100%;
border: 1px solid black;
background-color: rgb(239, 65, 59);
}
.header {
height: 60px;
background-color: rgb(55, 102, 199);
}
.dummy {
padding-top: 100%; /* forces 1:1 aspect ratio */
}
.img-container {
position: absolute;
top: 10px;
bottom: 0;
left: 10px;
right: 0;
text-align: left;
}
.img-container:before {
content: ' ';
display: inline-block;
vertical-align: middle;
height: 100%;
}
.img-container img {
vertical-align: middle;
display: inline-block;
}
.headliner {
padding:10px;
height:50px;
}
.footer {
height: 40px;
padding-bottom: 0px;
padding-left: 5px;
padding-top: 5px;
background-color: rgb(66, 199, 123);
text-align: left;
}

How can I center align (horizontally) an image inside its container div?
Here's the HTML and CSS. I have also included the CSS for the other elements of the thumbnail. It runs in descending order so the highest element is the container of everything and the lowest is inside everything.
#thumbnailwrapper {
color: #2A2A2A;
margin-right: 5px;
border-radius: 0.2em;
margin-bottom: 5px;
background-color: #E9F7FE;
padding: 5px;
border: thin solid #DADADA;
font-size: 15px
}
#artiststhumbnail {
width: 120px;
height: 108px;
overflow: hidden;
border: thin solid #DADADA;
background-color: white;
}
#artiststhumbnail:hover {
left: 50px
}
<!--link here-->
<a href="NotByDesign">
<div id="thumbnailwrapper">
<a href="NotByDesign">
<!--name here-->
<b>Not By Design</b>
<br>
<div id="artiststhumbnail">
<a href="NotByDesign">
<!--image here-->
<img src="../files/noprofile.jpg" height="100%" alt="Not By Design" border="1" />
</a>
</div>
<div id="genre">Punk</div>
</div>
Okay, I have added the markup without the PHP in so should be easier to see. Neither solution seems to work in practice. The text at top and bottom cannot be centered and the image should be centered within its container div. The container has overflow hidden so I want to see the center of the image as that's normally where the focus is.
#artiststhumbnail a img {
display:block;
margin:auto;
}
Here's my solution in: http://jsfiddle.net/marvo/3k3CC/2/
CSS flexbox can do it with justify-content: center on the image parent element. To preserve the aspect ratio of the image, add align-self: flex-start; to it.
HTML
<div class="image-container">
<img src="http://placehold.it/100x100" />
</div>
CSS
.image-container {
display: flex;
justify-content: center;
}
Output:
body {
background: lightgray;
}
.image-container {
width: 200px;
display: flex;
justify-content: center;
margin: 10px;
padding: 10px;
/* Material design properties */
background: #fff;
box-shadow: 0 2px 2px 0 rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.14), 0 3px 1px -2px rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.2), 0 1px 5px 0 rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.12);
}
.image-2 {
width: 500px;
align-self: flex-start; /* to preserve image aspect ratio */
}
.image-3 {
width: 300px;
align-self: flex-start; /* to preserve image aspect ratio */
}
<div class="image-container">
<img src="http://placehold.it/100x100" />
</div>
<div class="image-container image-2">
<img src="http://placehold.it/100x100/333" />
</div>
<div class="image-container image-3">
<img src="http://placehold.it/100x100/666" />
</div>
I just found this solution below on the W3 CSS page and it answered my problem.
img {
display: block;
margin-left: auto;
margin-right: auto;
}
Source: http://www.w3.org/Style/Examples/007/center.en.html
This also would do it
#imagewrapper {
text-align:center;
}
#imagewrapper img {
display:inline-block;
margin:0 5px;
}
The best thing I have found (that seems to work in all browsers) for centering an image, or any element, horizontally is to create a CSS class and include the following parameters:
CSS
.center {
position: relative; /* where the next element will be automatically positioned */
display: inline-block; /* causes element width to shrink to fit content */
left: 50%; /* moves left side of image/element to center of parent element */
transform: translate(-50%); /* centers image/element on "left: 50%" position */
}
You can then apply the CSS class you created to your tag as follows:
HTML
<img class="center" src="image.jpg" />
You can also inline the CSS in your element(s) by doing the following:
<img style="position: relative; display: inline-block; left: 50%; transform: translate(-50%);" src ="image.jpg" />
...but I wouldn't recommend writing CSS inline because then you have to make multiple changes in all your tags using your centering CSS code if you ever want to change the style.
This is what I ended up doing:
<div style="height: 600px">
<img src="assets/zzzzz.png" alt="Error" style="max-width: 100%;
max-height: 100%; display:block; margin:auto;" />
</div>
Which will limit the image height to 600px and will horizontally-center (or resize down if the parent width is smaller) to the parent container, maintaining proportions.
I am going to go out on a limb and say that the following is what you are after.
Note, the following I believe was accidentally omitted in the question (see comment):
<div id="thumbnailwrapper"> <!-- <<< This opening element -->
<div id="artiststhumbnail">
...
So what you need is:
#artiststhumbnail {
width:120px;
height:108px;
margin: 0 auto; /* <<< This line here. */
...
}
http://jsfiddle.net/userdude/XStjX/3/
yeah, the code like this work fine
<div>
<img/>
</div>
but just to remind u, the style for image
object-fit : *depend on u*
so the final code be like Example
div {
display: flex;
justify-content: center;
align-items: center;
}
div img {
object-fit: contain;
}
<div style="border: 1px solid red;">
<img src="https://img.joomcdn.net/9dd32cbfa0cdd7f48ca094972ca47727cd3cd82c_original.jpeg" alt="" srcset="" style="
border-radius: 50%;
height: 7.5rem;
width: 7.5rem;
object-fit: contain;" />
</div>
Add this to your CSS:
#artiststhumbnail a img {
display: block;
margin-left: auto;
margin-right: auto;
}
Just referencing a child element which in that case is the image.
To center an image horizontally, this works:
<p style="text-align:center"><img src=""></p>
Put the picture inside a newDiv.
Make the width of the containing div the same as the image.
Apply margin: 0 auto; to the newDiv.
That should center the div within the container.
Use positioning. The following worked for me... (Horizontally and Vertically Centered)
With zoom to the center of the image (image fills the div):
div{
display:block;
overflow:hidden;
width: 70px;
height: 70px;
position: relative;
}
div img{
min-width: 70px;
min-height: 70px;
max-width: 250%;
max-height: 250%;
top: -50%;
left: -50%;
bottom: -50%;
right: -50%;
position: absolute;
}
Without zoom to the center of the image (image does not fill the div):
div{
display:block;
overflow:hidden;
width: 100px;
height: 100px;
position: relative;
}
div img{
width: 70px;
height: 70px;
top: 50%;
left: 50%;
bottom: 50%;
right: 50%;
position: absolute;
}
Center a image in a div
/* standar */
div, .flexbox-div {
position: relative;
width: 100%;
height: 100px;
margin: 10px;
background-color: grey;
}

height: 75px;
}
/* || standar */

<img class="align-item" src="http://placeholders.org/250/000/fff" alt="Not By Design" border="1" />
</div>
I have tried a few ways. But this way works perfectly for me
<img src="~/images/btn.png" class="img-responsive" id="hide" style="display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;" />
Put an equal pixel padding for left and right:
<div id="artiststhumbnail" style="padding-left:ypx;padding-right:ypx">
A responsive way to center an image can be like this:
.center {
display: block;
margin: auto;
max-width: 100%;
max-height: 100%;
}
you can align your content using flex box with minimum code
HTML
<div class="image-container">
<img src="https://image.freepik.com/free-vector/modern-abstract-background_1048-1003.jpg" width="100px">
</div>
CSS
.image-container{
width:100%;
background:green;
display:flex;
.image-container{
width:100%;
background:green;
display:flex;
justify-content: center;
align-items:center;
}
<div class="image-container">
<img src="https://image.freepik.com/free-vector/modern-abstract-background_1048-1003.jpg" width="100px">
</div>

If you have to do this inline (such as when using an input box),
here is a quick hack that worked for me: surround your (image link in this case)
in a div with style="text-align:center"
<div style="text-align:center">
<a title="Example Image: Google Logo" href="https://www.google.com/"
target="_blank" rel="noopener"><img src="https://www.google.com/images/branding/googlelogo/2x/googlelogo_color_272x92dp.png" alt="Google Logo. Click to visit Google.com" border="0" data-recalc-dims="1" /></a>
<h6><strong>This text will also be centered </strong></h6>
</div> /* ends centering style */
.document {
align-items: center;
background-color: hsl(229, 57%, 11%);
border-radius: 5px;
display: flex;
height: 40px;
width: 40px;
}
.document img {
display: block;
margin: auto;
}
<div class="document">
<img src="./images/icon-document.svg" alt="icon-document" />
</div>
<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
<head>
<meta charset="utf-8">
<meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width, initial-scale=1">
<style>
body{
/*-------------------important for fluid images---\/--*/
overflow-x: hidden; /* some browsers shows it for mysterious reasons to me*/
overflow-y: scroll;
margin-left:0px;

/*-------------------important for fluid images---/\--*/
}
.thirddiv{
float:left;
width:100vw;
height:100vh;
margin:0px;
background:olive;
}
.thirdclassclassone{
float:left; /*important*/
background:grey;
width:80vw;
height:80vh; /*match with img height bellow*/
margin-left:10vw; /* 100vw minus "width"/2 */

margin-top:10vh;
}
.thirdclassclassone img{

display: block; /*important*/
margin-left: auto; /*very important*/

}
</style>
</head>
<body>
<div class="thirddiv">
<div class="thirdclassclassone">

##Both Vertically and Horizontally center of the Page
.box{
width: 300px;
height: 300px;
background-color: #232532;
position: fixed;
top: 0;
bottom: 0;
left: 0;
right: 0;
margin: auto;
}
Style.css
img#center-img{
display: block;
margin: auto;
}
Html
<html>
<body>
<div>
<img src='pic.png' id='center-img'>
</div>
</body>
</html>
To center a image use this css. You have to give width at first of the image.
img{
width: 300px;
position: fixed;
left0;
right:0;
}
Here is a simple site: 1 featured post and 3 small boxes under. I have a darkening effect on hover. The problem is when I add the small boxes. It stops working =(
<div class="bigBox">
<div class="featured_post">
<span></span>
<div class="category">Stuff</div>
<h1>Text will go here</h1>
</div>
</div>
<div class="small_boxes">
<div class="box01">
<span></span>
<div class="category">Stuff</div>
<h1>Text will go here</h1>
</div>
FULL CODE WITH CSS:
1 small box (work) http://codepen.io/tsalexey544/pen/wBExPJ?editors=110
3 small boxes (doesnt work) http://codepen.io/tsalexey544/pen/xbaJpe?editors=110
your .small_boxes (box01, box02, box03) miss a position: relative. If you add that, you are done.
Your boxes float in their parent. Their parent has position: relative. The spans get the full height+width of that parent, which is 0x0, since its children float.
.small_boxes <-- position: relative. 0x0
.box01/02/03 <-- float: left
span <-- 100% of .small_boxes = 0x0
What you want:
.small_boxes
.box01/02/03 <-- float: left, position: relative;
span <-- 100% of .box = desired effect
you could use pseudo elements to achieve this effect, which would reduce markup considerably:
.cont {
position: relative;
background: url(http://japanpapa.ru/fun/jpap/img/post01.jpg);
background-size: 100% 100%;
height: 100px;
width: 100px;
displaY: inline-block;
margin: 10px;
}
.text {
display: inline-block;
color: white;
font-size: 20px;
text-align: center;
position: absolute;
top: 0;
left: 0;
height: 100%;
width: 100%;
line-height:100px;
}
.cont:before {
content: "";
position: absolute;
height: 100%;
width: 100%;
top: 0;
left: 0;
background: black;
transition: all 0.4s;
opacity: 0;
}
.cont:hover:before {
opacity: 0.6;
}
<div class="cont">
<div class="text">text1</div>
</div>
<div class="cont">
<div class="text">text2</div>
</div>
<div class="cont">
<div class="text">text3</div>
