I'm trying to create a central menu with HTML and CSS, I created the menu but now I can't understand how to put the menu in the center of the page.
I tried to modify the topnav class with margin: auto but nothing happened.
This is my code:

Using a flexbox for .topnav makes it simple to center the menu.
function myFunction() {
var x = document.getElementById("myTopnav");
if (x.className === "topnav") {
x.className += " responsive";
} else {
x.className = "topnav";
}
}
.topnav {
display: flex;
justify-content: center;
background-color: #333;
}
.topnav a {
float: left;
display: block;
color: #f2f2f2;
text-align: center;
padding: 14px 16px;
text-decoration: none;
font-size: 17px;
}
.topnav a:hover {
background-color: #ddd;
color: black;
}
.topnav .icon {
display: none;
}
#media screen and (max-width: 600px) {
.topnav a:not(:first-child) {
display: none;
}
.topnav a.icon {
float: right;
display: block;
}
}
#media screen and (max-width: 600px) {
.topnav.responsive {
position: relative;
}
.topnav.responsive .icon {

If I understand it correctly, you would like the text to be centered horizontally.
To do that, you just need to add text-align:center; to topnav.
The property that you used, margin: auto; would center the navigation bar itself (and not its content), but has no consequence since it already occupies the entire width of the screen.
.topnav {
overflow: hidden;
background-color: #333;
text-align:center;
}
Jsfiddle: https://jsfiddle.net/aud5bsq4/7/
If you are trying to center the entire .topnav bar, you will have to give it a width. Otherwise it will always be as wide as 100% of it's parent element (in this case I'm assuming that's the Body).
Try adding:
.topnav {
width: "your width here";
margin: 0 auto;
}
Here's an example of what that would look like with 300px width.
.topnav {
overflow: hidden;
background-color: #333;
width:300px;
margin:0 auto;
}
.topnav a {
float: left;
display: block;
color: #f2f2f2;
text-align: center;
padding: 14px 16px;
text-decoration: none;
font-size: 17px;
}
.topnav a:hover {
background-color: #ddd;
color: black;
}
.topnav .icon {
display: none;
}
#media screen and (max-width: 600px) {
.topnav a:not(:first-child) {display: none;}
.topnav a.icon {
float: right;
display: block;
}
}
#media screen and (max-width: 600px) {
.topnav.responsive {position: relative;}
.topnav.responsive .icon {
position: absolute;
right: 0;
top: 0;
}
.topnav.responsive a {
float: none;
display: block;
text-align: left;
}
}

If you are simply trying to center the elements within your .topnav you can try turning it into a Flexbox element.
Try adding:
.topnav {
display:flex;
justify-content: center;
}
Here's an example of using flexbox to center your menu's elements:
.topnav {
overflow: hidden;
background-color: #333;
display:flex;
justify-content: center;
}
.topnav a {
float: left;
display: block;
color: #f2f2f2;
text-align: center;
padding: 14px 16px;
text-decoration: none;
font-size: 17px;
}
.topnav a:hover {
background-color: #ddd;
color: black;
}
.topnav .icon {
display: none;
}
#media screen and (max-width: 600px) {
.topnav a:not(:first-child) {display: none;}
.topnav a.icon {
float: right;
display: block;
}
}
#media screen and (max-width: 600px) {
.topnav.responsive {position: relative;}
.topnav.responsive .icon {
position: absolute;
right: 0;
top: 0;
}
.topnav.responsive a {
float: none;
display: block;
text-align: left;
}
}

As in the above image, u can see the , all the elements like "tuning", "Choose a tune from ur favourite" , "Choose a book format", ""About". All the contents are not in proper shape. and mainly the dropdown("Choose a book format") it is in not aligned according to other content. and when click on dropdown also. it is overlapping on content.
I need to align all the elements until it reaches to some 1200px like below.
Code:- https://jsfiddle.net/se8pa7m3/2/
I have wrapped "Choose a book format", "About" <div class="topnav-inner-wrap"> and applied flexbox css on .topnav & .topnav-inner-wrap

Check this fiddle. You can use flexbox for this scenario. Add these properties to your topnav:
display: flex;
align-items: center;
justify-content: space-evenly;
align-items is used to align the items vertically, and justify-content is used to space them equally. You can only use both properties if you've set the display to flex.
More on flexbox here.
Use justify-content:space-between; in the parent class
I have an navbar with centered li items. Two of this li items should have an dropdown while hovering over them. I tried this but the dropdown-content appears in the navbar container.
I tried this with the .dropdown and while hovering over it, the .dropdwon-content should be visible under the red border of the navbar.
My Code:
function resNavBar() {
var x = document.getElementById("idTopNav");
var y = document.getElementById("idHomeBtn");
var z = document.getElementById("idIconClose");
var zz = document.getElementById("idIconMenu");
if (x.className === "topnav" & y.className === "homebtn") {
x.className += " responsive";
y.className += " responsive";
z.className = "icon-close";
zz.className += " invisible";
} else {
x.className = "topnav";
y.className = "homebtn";
z.className += " invisible";
zz.className = "icon-menu";
}
}

Has anyone an idea why the dropdown is in the navbar?
The dropdown is in the navbar because you don't give it a position. Just add a top attribute to the .dropdown-content.
header .topnav .dropdown .dropdown-content {
display: none;
position: absolute;
background-color: #f8f9fa;
min-width: 10vw;
z-index: 1;
padding: 12px 16px;
top: 100%;
}
And you need to get rid of the overflow on your .topnav element.
this is a problem only in mobile. here's the image https://i.stack.imgur.com/LvS77.png
this is the navbar html:

and this is the css:
.topnav {
background-color: #333;
overflow: hidden;
}
.topnav a {
float: right;
display: block;
color: #dfdfdf;
text-align: center;
padding: 14px 16px;
text-decoration: none;
font-size: 17px;
}
.bars div {
width: 35px;
height: 5px;
background-color: black;
margin: 6px 0;
}
.topnav .icon {
display: none;
}
.topnav .logo {
float:left;
}
#media screen and (max-width: 600px) {
.topnav a:not(:first-child) {display: none;}
.topnav a.icon {

position: absolute;
right: 0;
top: 0;
}
.topnav.responsive a {
float: none;
display: block;
text-align: left;
}
}
p.s. the responsive class is added with javascript when the three bars in mobile is clicked
Thanks
I added this css
.topnav .logo {
flex: 1 1 auto;
text-align: left;
}
.topnav {
display: flex;
}
Is this something you want?
Don't use float in your css. We have amazing css properties flexbox for layouting. Float destroys layouting.

<div class="topnav" id="myTopnav" ng-controller="searchController">

Try adding, position: relative; to the nav, and an absolute for .searchFeature
.topnav{
position: relative;
}
.searchFeature{
position: absolute;
top: 15px;
left: 65px;
}
Here you have a codepen!
I have a responsive menu on my website. Now I'm trying to make responsive also the others parts of the website with media queries.
I added this 2 media queries but after that, the responsive menu doesn't work anymore and I don't know why.
#media (min-width: 768px) and (max-width: 980px)
#media (max-width: 767px)
This is the code for the menu:
CSS
.topnav {
list-style-type: none;
margin: 0;
padding: 0;
overflow: hidden; /*overflow help you to create a new row below because you used float left*/
background-color: #f6f6f6;
border: 1px solid #d1d1d1;
}
.topnav a {
float: left;
border-left: 1px solid #d1d1d1;
display: block; /*"li a" is an inline element by default so we have to convert it in block element for modify the layout*/
color: #0099cc;
text-align: center;
padding: 14px 22px;
text-decoration: none;
}
.topnav .active {
background-color: #f29323;
color: #ffffff;
}
.topnav a:hover {
text-decoration: none;
}
.topnav a:hover:not(.active) {
background-color: #f29323;
color: #fff;
text-decoration: none;
}
.topnav .icon {
display: none;
}
#media screen and (max-width: 600px) {
.topnav a {
display: none;
}
.topnav a.icon {
float: right;
display: block;
}
}
#media screen and (max-width: 600px) {
.topnav.responsive {
position: relative;
}
.topnav.responsive .icon {
position: absolute;
right: 0;
top: 0;
}
.topnav.responsive a {
float: none;
display: block;
text-align: left;
}
}
#media screen and (max-width: 600px) {
.topnav {
padding: 0 0;
}
}
HTML
<div class="topnav" id="myTopnav">
<a <?php echo ($page == "information") ? "class='active'" : ""; ?> href="/nutickets2/index.php">INFORMATION</a>
<a <?php echo ($page == "report") ? "class='active'" : ""; ?> href="/nutickets2/report.php">Tickets</a>
Info
☰
</div>
JS
<script>
function myFunction() {
var x = document.getElementById("myTopnav");
if (x.className === "topnav") {
x.className += " responsive";
} else {
x.className = "topnav";
}
}
</script>
This is the code that I added for making the site responsive:
#media (min-width: 768px) and (max-width: 980px) {
.text-head-div div {
display: block;
}
.text-head-div span {
display: block;
}
}
#media (max-width: 767px) {
.text-head-div div {
display: block;
}
.text-head-div span {
display: block;
}
}
After that, the responsive menu doesn't work anymore.
If I delete the last code the responsive menu restar to works.
What does the text-head-div element look like? Does it or its children have any fixed width elements?
Code embedded in HTML snippet for easy testing:
