Why are images not showing on website? - html

Images after "my art" part are not showing. Cursor is changing when you slide under the MY ART. So images are probably there, but not showing. The problem might be in css, but i cant find it.

You can use this code:
$(function() {
$(".img-w").each(function() {
$(this).wrap("<div class='img-c'></div>")
let imgSrc = $(this).find("img").attr("src");
$(this).css('background-image', 'url(' + imgSrc + ')');
})
$(".img-c").click(function() {
let w = $(this).outerWidth()
let h = $(this).outerHeight()
let x = $(this).offset().left
let y = $(this).offset().top
$(".active").not($(this)).remove()
let copy = $(this).clone();
copy.insertAfter($(this)).height(h).width(w).delay(500).addClass("active")
$(".active").css('top', y - 8);
$(".active").css('left', x - 8);
setTimeout(function() {
copy.addClass("positioned")
}, 0)
})
})
$(document).on("click", ".img-c.active", function() {
let copy = $(this)
copy.removeClass("positioned active").addClass("postactive")
setTimeout(function() {
copy.remove();
}, 500)
})

Because it cant find the image you're assigning.
<img src="https://placeimg.com/640/480/tech"/>
placeimg is a generated image.
I made some edits to your codepen and forked it.
You also didnt include jquery.
https://codepen.io/anon/pen/awooQB

In your codepen example you have the following
<div class="gallery">
<div class="img-w"><img src="1.jpg" alt="image" /></div>
<div class="img-w"><img src="2.jpg" alt="image" /></div>
<div class="img-w"><img src="3.jpg" alt="image" /></div>
<div class="img-w"><img src="4.jpg" alt="image" /></div>
<div class="img-w"><img src="5.jpg" alt="image" /></div>
<div class="img-w"><img src="6.jpg" alt="image" /></div>
<div class="img-w"><img src="7.jpg" alt="image" /></div>
<div class="img-w"><img src="sunset.jpg" alt="image" /></div>
<div class="img-w"><img src="10.jpg" alt="image" /></div>
</div>
For the images to show in your webpage, the files must be saved in the same location as the html file. So, make sure the images 1.jpg, 2.jpg etc are in the same folder as your html file and they should display as you want them to.
Additionally, using relative paths (i.e. that refer to a file relative to the html by only providing a partial path) like this will mean that your images will never show up on codepen as it has no access to the images.
To make images show up on codepen you need to publish them to the internet somehow (beyond the scope of this question) and use the full URL to the published image (it should start with http:// or https://)
On looking at the CSS though you also have
.img-w img {
display: none;
}
Removing the display:none means the images are displayed, however, i think you want to get the JQuery to work so you should add references to JQuery to your HTML file and then the images will be displayed as per the example below:
Snippet:
$(function() {
$(".img-w").each(function() {
$(this).wrap("<div class='img-c'></div>")
let imgSrc = $(this).find("img").attr("src");
$(this).css('background-image', 'url(' + imgSrc + ')');
})
$(".img-c").click(function() {
let w = $(this).outerWidth()
let h = $(this).outerHeight()
let x = $(this).offset().left
let y = $(this).offset().top
$(".active").not($(this)).remove()
let copy = $(this).clone();
copy.insertAfter($(this)).height(h).width(w).delay(500).addClass("active")
$(".active").css('top', y - 8);
$(".active").css('left', x - 8);
setTimeout(function() {
copy.addClass("positioned")
}, 0)
})
})
$(document).on("click", ".img-c.active", function() {
let copy = $(this)
copy.removeClass("positioned active").addClass("postactive")
setTimeout(function() {
copy.remove();
}, 500)
})

The answer to this question linking jquery in html shows you how to add JQuery to your HTML
<script src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.8.3/jquery.min.js"></script>
<script src="http://code.jquery.com/ui/1.9.2/jquery-ui.js"></script>
Please note these are old files and should be replaced with the current versions of JQuery.

How do I make a HTML slider the background of a website?

So I have made a simple HTML and CSS website with the background image currently set as the ocean picture.
Here is the code for this website
HTML:
<!DOCTYPE html>

<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="css/style.css">

<li class="active">Home</li>
<li>Cooking</li>
<li>Writing</li>

<li>Photography</li>

</div>
<div class="title">

</div>
<div class="button">

</body>
</html>
CSS:

padding: 0;
font-family: Century Gothic; }

background-image: url(../2.jpg);
height: 100vh;
background-size: cover;
background-position: center;
}
ul{
float: right;
list-style-type: none;
margin-top: 25px;
}
ul li{
display: inline-block;
}
ul li a{
text-decoration: none;
color: #fff;
padding: 5px 20px;
border: 1px solid transparent;
transition: 0.6s ease;
}
ul li a:hover{
background-color: #fff;
color: rgb(115, 196, 233);
}
ul li.active a{
background-color: #fff;
color: rgb(115, 196, 233);
}
.main{
max-width: 1200px;

}
.title{

transform: translate(-50%,-50%);
}
.title h1{

For this website I want the background image to be a slider showing three images. I have built the slider separately. Here is the code for the slider:

slideIndex = 1
}
slides[slideIndex - 1].style.display = "block";
setTimeout(showSlides, 2000); // Change image every 2 seconds
}
</script>
</body>
</html>
CSS:

Could someone please tell me how I can make the slider of pictures the background of my website?
Thank you!
Make use of position:absolute and set the container height and width to 100%. (I used vh & vw to take the device/view height and width).
I hope you can take it forward. Cheers!!!

How to create a horizontal carousel (with each pic being a link to a site)

(I created a post that was taken down because I don't think I gave enough info or something? I added more here, including the html code that I put together. Please let me know if this is not acceptable.)
I am trying to create a horizontal carousel where you can click the images that are linked to other pages. I have tried multiple types of carousels through HTML that I found on w3schools.com and other websites, but none of them were exactly what I was looking for. Here is what I was able to put together but it just isn't what I'm looking for. It doesn't scroll through the images like a carousel. I would also like to make the images links. Any suggestions?

Here are two examples of what I would want it to look like:

How to get this thumbnail slideshow centered

I have absolutely no idea at this point. I have done everything I could to make sure the arrows and the thumbnail images are centered but somehow, it will not budge... I have even tried the but doesn't seem to make an affect. There is an JS file too but I don't think that really matters so I am not posting on here.

Solution with use of flexbox.
.gallery-outer {
overflow: hidden;
width: 830px;
/*left: 18px;
padding: 0 0 0 5px;*/
height: 250px;
}
.gallery-inner {
float: left;
height: 100%;
position: relative;
width: 3390px;
}
.gallery-tmb {
float: left;
margin: 0 10px 0 0;
}
#gallery {
border-left: 1px solid #E9E9E9;
border-right: 1px solid #E9E9E9;
display: flex;
justify-content: space-between;
margin: 15px;
padding: 0;
position: relative;
width: 800px;
}
#arrow-left {
background:#d1d1d1;
cursor: pointer;
height: 82px;
width: 25px;
align-self: center;
}
#arrow-left-small {
padding: 10px;
box-shadow: 4px -4px 0 1px black;
position: relative;
display: inline-block;
margin: 40px;
transform: rotate(225deg);
right: 27px;
top:-9px;
}
#arrow-right {
background:#d1d1d1;
cursor: pointer;
height: 82px;
width: 25px;
align-self: center;
}
#arrow-right-small {
padding: 10px;
box-shadow: 4px -4px 0 1px black;
position: relative;
display: inline-block;
margin: 40px;
transform: rotate(45deg);
right: 49px;
top:-9px;
}
Flexbox solution
I just built you an example with all the basics.
I don't recommend float abuse, only use it when really needed.
// HOPE IT HELPS
.gallery{
max-width: 600px;
margin: 0 auto;
text-align: center; /* this will center all the inline and inline-block content */
background: purple;
}
.arrow-left,.arrow-right{
width: 100px;
height: 100px;
display: inline-block;
vertical-align: middle;
background: blue;
color: white;
font-size: 5rem; /* just to make arrows show */
}
/* this is just to make the arrows show :p */
.arrow-left:before{
content: '←';
}
.arrow-right:after{
content: '→';
}
/* i'm just between the arrows and also inline (inline-block)*/
.gallery ul{
vertical-align: middle;
background: green;
margin: 0;
padding: 0;
display: inline-block;
}
/* where the images will go (you can use divs instead of ul, li) */
.gallery li {
display: inline-block;
}

You can use a bootstrap template like this:

<meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width, initial-scale=1">

<div class="container-fulid">
<div class="row">
<div class="col-md-2 text-right">
<span class="glyphicon glyphicon-chevron-left" style="margin-top:20%"></span>
</div>
<div class="col-md-2">
<div class="thumbnail">

</div>
<div class="col-md-2">
<div class="thumbnail">

<div class="col-md-2">
<div class="thumbnail">

</div>
<div class="col-md-2">
<div class="thumbnail">

</div>
<div class="col-md-2 text-left">

How to show text on image when hovering?

I'm trying to show a description when hovering over an image. I've already done it in a less than desirable way, using image sprites and hovers here: I want it to look exactly like how I have it, but using real text instead of an image.
I've tried a few different things but I can't seem to figure out how to do it. I'm trying to do it using HTML and CSS only, but I'm not sure if that's possible.
Feel free to poke around in my code, I'll paste what I think is relavent here.
HTML
div#projectlist {
width: 770px;
margin: 0 auto;
margin-top: 20px;
margin-bottom: 40px;
}
div#buzzbutton {
display: block;
float: left;
margin: 2px;
background: url(content/assets/thumbnails/design/buzz_sprite.jpg) 0 0px no-repeat;
width: 150px;
height: 150px;
}
div#buzzbutton:hover {
background: url(content/assets/thumbnails/design/buzz_sprite.jpg);
width: 150px;
height: 150px;
background-position: 0 -150px;
}
div#slinksterbutton {
display: block;
float: left;
background: url(content/assets/thumbnails/design/slinkster_sprite.jpg) 0 0px no-repeat;
width: 150px;
height: 150px;
margin: 2px;
}
div#slinksterbutton:hover {
background: url(content/assets/thumbnails/design/slinkster_sprite.jpg);
width: 150px;
height: 150px;
background-position: 0 -150px;
}
<div id="projectlist">
<div id="buzzbutton">
<img src="content/assets/thumbnails/transparent_150x150.png" alt="" />
</div>
<div id="slinksterbutton">
<img src="content/assets/thumbnails/transparent_150x150.png" alt="" />
</div>
</div>
It's simple. Wrap the image and the "appear on hover" description in a div with the same dimensions of the image. Then, with some CSS, order the description to appear while hovering that div.
/* quick reset */
* {
margin: 0;
padding: 0;
border: 0;
}
/* relevant styles */
.img__wrap {
position: relative;
height: 200px;
width: 257px;
}
.img__description {
position: absolute;
top: 0;
bottom: 0;
left: 0;
right: 0;
background: rgba(29, 106, 154, 0.72);
color: #fff;
visibility: hidden;
opacity: 0;
/* transition effect. not necessary */
transition: opacity .2s, visibility .2s;
}
.img__wrap:hover .img__description {
visibility: visible;
opacity: 1;
}
<div class="img__wrap">
<img class="img__img" src="http://placehold.it/257x200.jpg" />
<p class="img__description">This image looks super neat.</p>
</div>
A nice fiddle: https://jsfiddle.net/govdqd8y/
EDIT:
There's another option if you don't want to explicitly set the height of the <img> on the wrapping <div>, and that is simply setting the <div>'s display to inline-block. (Keep in mind, though, that it won't look good if the image fails to load.)
If you choose this option, you'll notice that there'll be a slight spacing between the <img> and the bottom of the wrapping <div>. That's because of the <img>'s default vertical-align value of baseline. If you set it to bottom it will disappear.
Here's a fiddle using this option: https://jsfiddle.net/joplomacedo/5cL31o0g/
In your HTML, try and put the text that you want to come up in the title part of the code:
<a href="buzz.html" title="buzz hover text">
You can also do the same for the alt text of your image.
You can also use the title attribute in your image tag
<img src="content/assets/thumbnails/transparent_150x150.png" alt="" title="hover text" />
This is what I use to make the text appear on hover:
* {
box-sizing: border-box
}
div {
position: relative;
top: 0px;
left: 0px;
width: 400px;
height: 400px;
border-radius: 50%;
overflow: hidden;
text-align: center
}
img {
width: 400px;
height: 400px;
position: absolute;
border-radius: 50%
}
img:hover {
opacity: 0;
transition:opacity 2s;
}
heading {
line-height: 40px;
font-weight: bold;
font-family: "Trebuchet MS";
text-align: center;
position: absolute;
display: block
}
div p {
z-index: -1;
width: 420px;
line-height: 20px;
display: inline-block;
padding: 200px 0px;
vertical-align: middle;
font-family: "Trebuchet MS";
height: 450px
}

I saw a lot of people use an image tag. I prefer to use a background image because I can manipulate it. For example, I can:
Add smoother transitions
save time not having to crop images by using the "background-size: cover;" property.
The HTML/CSS:
.overlay-box {
background-color: #f5f5f5;
height: 100%;
background-repeat: no-repeat;
background-size: cover;
}
.overlay-box:hover .desc,
.overlay-box:focus .desc {
opacity: 1;
}
/* opacity 0.01 for accessibility */
/* adjust the styles like height,padding to match your design*/
.overlay-box .desc {
opacity: 0.01;

font-size: 1rem;
height: 100%;

For accessibility reasons, you should use the correct semantic tags. Use a figure as a container and include the text to the image as figcaption.
Apply position: absolute to the container and then position: absolute to the figcaption.
Simply hide the figcaption with display: block and make it visible again by using :hover on the wrapping figure element.
figure {
position: relative;
}
figcaption {
position: absolute;
inset: 2px;
display: none;
}
figure:hover figcaption {
display: flex;
}
/* for visualization only */
figure {
display: inline-block;
}
figcaption {
padding: 1em;
justify-content: center;
align-items: center;
background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0.7);
}
img {
border: 2px dashed red;
}
<figure>
<img src="https://via.placeholder.com/200.jpg" alt="placeholder image used for demonstration">
<figcaption>placeholder image used for demonstration</figcaption>
</figure>

issue with slider

Hi I'm having some issue with the position of a slider. It goes outside his holder, somewhere in the right. I'm pretty sure I'm missing something in the CSS but can't remember what exactly.
HTML:
<div class="slider">
<div class="carousel">
<img src="css/images/img1.jpg" alt="" />
<img src="css/images/img1.jpg" alt="" />
<img src="css/images/img1.jpg" alt="" />
</div>
<div class="pagination">
</div>
</div>
CSS:
.slider { position: relative; width: 100%; }
.carousel img { width: 781px; display: block; }
.pagination { position: absolute; bottom: 10px; left: 10px; }
.pagination a { background: url(images/pagination.png) no-repeat 0 bottom; height: 12px; width: 12px; float: left; font-size: 0; line-height: 0; text-indent: -4000px; padding: 0 3px 0 0; }
.pagination a:hover,
.pagination a.selected { background-position: 0 0; }
jQuery:
$(function(){
$(".carousel").carouFredSel({
items: 1,
scroll: {
fx: "fade"
},
auto: 4000,
width:781,
pagination: ".pagination"
});
});
I've found the mistake I was missing overflow:hidden
nice job in finding the mistake. Yes overflow is easily overlooked.
