I'm using Access 2013 and have created a custom right click menu to copy\cut paste (as this is deployed to users using the Runtime and this doesn't exist out of the box). However, within a form I need to disable the custom right click for one specifc text box - is this possible?
Thanks,
Michael
Its ok I worked it out.
For the On Enter event I added:
ShortcutMenu = False
And for the Lost Focus event I added:
ShortcutMenu = True

I have an Access 2016 application that opens a pop-up form when user double-clicks on a record in a datasheet form. That's meant to be a 'detail form' showing all fields in record (datasheet shows only a few). Now, while editing data on popup form, I switch to another app (say Notepad) to copy some text from there or simply check some other thing. I then switch back to Access app by applying Alt-Tab. However, now focus is over datasheet form, instead of pop up form it was when I first switched to Notepad.
Can anyone please help on understanding why this happens? Ultimately I want to return focus over popup form whenever I switch back from any other app by using Alt-Tab, i.e., maybe by detecting in VBA when Access application gets focus back so I can set focus on desired form. I've read some suggestions about using some Windows API function but no detailed examples on that.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Step1: I open an Access form when the software opens. It acts like a switchboard manager where the user can open other forms and reports. (Popup = yes, modal = no)
Step2: Click to open a "Master Form" which also has other options. (ditto) So the original VB code called this form to be open and is still "running" in the background.
Step 3: Click to open a report based on the record selected.
So now there's 2 forms open and 1 report. User cannot toggle between them, must close one to get to the other (necessary).
On the open report, I would like to modify the rightclick commandbar. However, "Close" doesn't work because Access now shows Form1 and Form2 above as gray and Access is locked. I would like to be able to right-click to do a number of things including Close, Change to Design View, etc. But if I'm locked out like this, none of these will work.
I searched on...
1. Ending the background vba that's running - no luck
2. Setting focus on the active screen name - no luck
3. Setting focus on a control on the Form2 above - no luck
4. Tried all kinds of CommandBar things, no luck (ID choice vs. manual OnAction) and many more
I'd be happy to attach what I'm doing but it's pretty big, although I could probably cut out the sections that this applies too...
I've been searching for about 16 hours now... Anyone???
Thanks so much.
Popup = Yes in Access means two things:
The form or report stays above all other forms and reports that have Popup = No and above Access’ application window.
The form or report is not bound to the area of Access' application window and can be drawn outside of it.
You have two options:
Set Popup = No for the two forms. In this case they will be tied to the application window area.
Set Popup = Yes for the report as well, so that it can stand in front of the two forms.
I have created a report for Microsoft access and am trying to add fields to a report only if then have been clicked on our filled out. The only way I can think of doing this is writing a code or an if-then statement in access. I have very little experience with writing code and am not sure where to begin. I'm looking for something like "If a checkbox is selected then add it to the report".
Thank you.
Instead of trying to dynamically add controls to a report you could include all of the fields on the report and then simply hide the controls that correspond to empty fields. For example, if you have a text field named [SpecialRequirements] and your report contains a bound text box named [txtSpecialRequirements] then in the On Format event handler of the report's Detail band you could use
Me.txtSpecialRequirements.Visible = (Not IsNull([SpecialRequirements]))
which is just a shorthand way of saying
If IsNull([SpecialRequirements]) Then
Me.txtSpecialRequirements.Visible = False
Else
Me.txtSpecialRequirements.Visible = True
End If
This should get you started - its a basic if structure:
If Me!myCheckBox = True Then
'Write to the report
Else
'Do something else
End If
Also check out the Microsoft Developer Network here for information on the If...Then..Else statement
This is really old, but I had the same issue above, but found a easy solution.
Go to Design view in your "report"
Make your Yes/No boxes not visible
Go to the Design tab in your tool bar
Click on the Controls and click on the Check box and place them over your Yes/No box
Delete the label it gives with the check box
Save and look at your report
Only the YES will appear as a checked box.
I want to create a navigation button on a web form. (I use MS Access 2010 - Web database). I dragged the button on the form (the Control Wizard option is selected) but the Command Button Wizard does not show up
I double clicked on the button, but it just let me to edit button name. I also tried to click anywhere on the form - still nothing
How do I show Command Button Wizard Menu for my "Command120" button??
You have to enable the control wizards first. Go to the drop-down arrow at the end of the control group on the design ribbon and select use control wizards. Then insert the button again.
I had the same issue. I created the button the form in design mode and this seemed to get it working in layout mode again.
After all of the answers above, I still could not get it to work. What appears to be the problem in my case is that the wizard will not work inside of sub-forms. The solution is to:
Open the sub-form directly instead of designing it inside the parent form.
or
Create the button on the parent form, then cut or paste it to the
sub-form.
So this is a really old question and but I have found out the answer to the problem and will share in hopes that it may help someone in the future.
If the form is a "Web Form" the control wizards do not work. It must be a standard form. As far as I can tell there is no indication of this anywhere. To see the difference see the image below.
The form on top is a regular form and the one whereas the one on the bottom with the little globe is a web form. In order to create this kind of form Go to the create Tab and DO NOT select the options in the menu. You must select blank form from the Client Forms drop down as shown below.
There you will find the option to create forms that don´t have the little globe and those are the forms that work with the control wizards. Hope this helps someone else! This was a real pain to discover.
Enable the "Use Control Wizards" At Design tool tab.
Then add the button to Design are.
That's all
Make sure your wizard button in the drop down arrow is on if it is turn it off and then turn it back on then recreate your button. That worked for me in a layout view. Good Luck!!
If Sandy's answer didn't work for you, try to switch first to Layout View then proceed.
It worked for me.
I actually landed here looking for a solution. While I didn’t find it here I did figure out what I was doing wrong.
The action wizard only works with boundControls. So the area you are trying to use is not connected to a relevant table or field.
1st off make sure that you have the wizard activated/Turned on then proceed.
Option 1 [From LayoutView]
I was able to get the wizard to work by 1st deleting the button.
Then delete the cell you are dropping the button onto.
Then I stretched the cell with a field name to the right where I wanted my button.
Then I split the fields Horizontally.
Last I dropped the button on the cell I just created adjacent to the field & voilà the wizard came-up.
Option2 [From DesignView]
Again remove what isn’t working 1st. Then drop the button where you want. The wizard should pop right up. The button won’t be where you wanted it to be, but you can always move it once you get it setup.
I read that you tried it in DesignView & it worked, but crashed Access & you lost your Macros, so just a reminder to everyone try this with a copy or test db.

I have a form that is used for data entry, and on one form there is a text box that is used to enter notes. However, if the user hits <ENTER> I need the cursor to stay in that text box and start a new line, but currently it is jumping to the next control (text box).
Is there a simple property setting that would do the trick? Or a VBA method that would accomplish this?
In Ac2003, there is the "Enter Key Behaviour" property, which gets set to "New Line in Field".
I suspect Scott's answer is what you're looking for. That property is available in Access 2007 also.
Another option would be to have the users enter CTRL+Enter to insert a line into the text control. Your users may not go for it, though.
