Code sync not happening on google compute engine - google-compute-engine

We are using google compute engine and have some instances and groups setup. We have connected our code to the bitbucket repository. All our setup works fine. However periodically (and this is happening now), the code that is pushed to bitbucket is not reflected in our instances. Once this happens this lingers for quite a while (as in the code will stay frozen as of a specific date and no new merges will refresh).
We've tried reaching out to google support without much success. Anybody face a similar issue? Any thoughts on what we can do to
a. resolve this and
b. prevent this from happening in the future.

Googel Apps Script Test Deployment - "We're sorry, a server error occurred. Please wait a bit and try again."

I have created a number of tools with Google Apps Script, using Google Sheets as a database. Since the move to the new IDE (which I really like), I've seen a new error that I had never seen before.
On two (and so far only two) of the tools I've created, when I go to do a Test Deployment, the new window shows an error message: "We're sorry, a server error occurred. Please wait a bit and try again."
When this happened to the first tool, I did some research, and saw mentions of this happening when more than one user logged into a Script project. That was a possibility for my situation, as I had been in that sheet/project with different usernames. However, everything I had read indicated it was an issue with the Production Deployment; I didn't see anything related to a Test Deployment error. The only solve I had for this was to start a whole new Project and copy the code over.
Now I am seeing this issue on a second project, but it's one that only one user has ever accessed. Initially, it was reported by one of my users who was getting that message on the Production Deployment. When I go into the Project to do a Test Deployment, I'm getting the same error. In Production, it appears to have resolved itself (mostly), as the tool is working again, but it's been up and down some this morning. And even with the Prod Deployment working, I am still unable to run a Test Deployment.
This is not something I ever ran into with the legacy editor. Has anyone else seen this sort of behavior since the new Editor was released? Any thoughts on how this can be resolved, short of creating a whole new project for this specific tool?

Do ApplicationData.localSettings get cleared when the app gets updated?

I'm working on modern Windows 8 app and wanted to figure out if Windows.Storage.ApplicationData.current.localSettings (msdn doc is here) get cleaned up when the app gets updated by the store.
Those settings are preserved across app updates, as are the roamingSettings and the contents of localFolder, roamingFolder, and tempFolder. In other words, performing an app update does not affect any of the appdata state, which makes perfect sense when you consider that many updates are minor bug fixes and should not in the least way require resetting or migrating existing state.
Do note that uninstalling an app and then reinstalling it will clean out localSettings, localFolder, and tempFolder. roamingSettings and roamingFolder will be restored provided that the user has had the app installed on another device within some reasonable period of time (unspecified, but something like 30 days).
It's also good to know that app state has its own versioning scheme through ApplicationData.setVersionAsync, and that an app update can choose, if it wants to migrate appdata from one version to another. Examples can be found in the Application Data sample.

Activity Monitor - Google Chrome taking a lot of memory

My macbook started freezing recently and I thought it might be due to shortage of memory. So I opened the activity monitor for the first time and I noticed there are some weird things happening with Chrome. Why are there so many Google Chrome Helper processes??
Is there any reason why there as so many processes?

Well, for one, each tab of Chrome runs independently. So you'll see quite a few processes running due to that.
Another thing to keep in mind is extensions. Each of them usually run in their own process as well. If you have a lot of extensions running, they add up rather quickly.

Chrome basic auth and digest auth issue

I'm having some issues with Chrome canceling some HTTP requests and I'm suspecting cached authentication data to be the cause. Let me first write down some important factors about the application I'm writing.
I was using Basic Authentication scheme for some time to guard several services and resources in my web app.
In the meantime I was using/testing the app heavily using Chrome with my main Google Account fully synced. Most frequently I was using my name - "lukasz" - as the username in Basic Auth.
Recently I have switched my application to use Digest Authentication.
Now, some of the HTTP requests I'm making are failing with status=failed with no apparent reason. It only happens when I'm using user "lukasz", if I enter some other unique username - there is no problem.
I looked everywhere in the backend and frontend and I couldn't locate the issue to be in our code. I can easily reproduce this with user "lukasz" each time. So I reverted my code to Basic Auth (while not touching the rest of app) and the problem was gone.
That led me to think that there is something wrong with cached passwords. So I cleared the cache in Chrome, but that didn't help. After several hours of analyzing the issue I decided to make sure that I'm running fresh instance of Chrome, so I reinstalled it (deleting the disk data along the way). TADAAA! The problem was gone and I couldn't reproduce this anymore.
Then I synchronized my Google Account with this newly installed Chrome and after a short while the requests to my app started failing again!! So I took a deeper look at this (cleaning profile data from disk and redoing all the steps) and indeed it looks like the problem starts as soon as my account is synced with cloud!
Yes, I know it sounds dodgy. It sounds ridiculous. It sounds stupid. But I am almost sure that those two problems are somehow related (failing requests and account sync).
My idea is this: Chrome somehow remembered that I was using "lukasz/my-pass" with Basic Auth for certain services. After I switched to Digest Auth the same combination of credentials (lukasz/my-pass) is now acting funny. Perhaps under the hood Chrome still thinks that this is Basic Auth and cancels requests when it learns otherwise?
UPDATE:
I've did some low level debugging with chrome://net-internals/ and it appears that the problem is while reading cache entry. This seems to prove my initial assumption.
I did some investigation and found this article. Apparently always adding "Last-Modified" header to my http response has solved the issue in Chrome (I'm still having some problems in FF, but that's off topic).
However, it still doesn't solve my issue entirely. Why the requests were failing in the first place?
You could try using incognito mode and see what happens. It may give you some hints without having to clear the cache or re-installing Chrome.

VS2008 partially freezing when switching to HTML design view

This is an odd freeze. When I switch from source view to design view for an HTML or ASPX file, the client area freezes, but I can still click on other tabs and menus.
What am I missing here? Really don't feel like reinstalling VS2008.
I had the same problem, and found one resolution.
In VS 2008, In a page that was using a master page, the either frequency while working in source view or switching to design view, IDE would freeze for 10-20 seconds.
In my master template, I had references to the Google hosted JQuery, Jquery UI, and one or two more scripts off site. These were placed directly in my master page's head section.
I downloaded the js and then by deleting any offsite references, my IDE would be smooth again in both design and source mode.
I also discovered I could put the scripts inside my ToolkitScriptManager (I'm using AjaxControlToolkit) and added the Mode="Release", and could place the http://www.google.com references for the scripts. The IDE is still working fine for me.
This is often due to the Design mode downloading external resources that are timing out. As #JonK mentioned, for him it was jQuery references. I have seen this when the ConnectionString was set to production databases that could not be accessed on my development machine, even though I wasn't debugging (running) the site only editing code, it would still try to connect and because it couldn't it would stall waiting for the timeout.
VS2008 is mostly single-threaded for UI operations like this, so if it is downloading a slow or non-existent network path it hangs like this.
VS2008 can make all kinds of network requests, so these two examples may not solve it for you. The best way I have found to diagnose the problem is to use the Microsoft tool Process Monitor, filter by the Process webdev.exe, and watch for I/O requests that are long running and/or throwing errors. In my case, I could find the place that was having a problem because there would be a 20 second gap in between the hundreds of I/O entries in Process Monitor. Then, just back-tracked from when that gap began and I eventually found the request that was causing the problem.
This may not be possible for you, but if you can, an upgrade to VS2010 would help; it does a much better job of running process on multiple threads in more places so you don't have to worry about this as much.
Have you tried restarting your computer and then reopening your project?
