I have Installed Xampp and configured MySQL and PhPmyadmin through it. BUt, when Itry creating a new User account It shows a MySQL error#1018 which says,
Error: 1018 SQLSTATE: HY000 (ER_CANT_READ_DIR)
Message: Can't read dir of '%s' (errno: %d - %s)
this Message takes me to SQL Query in the PHPmyadmin server which shows this,
SHOW PLUGINS SONAME LIKE '%_password_check%'
I am stuck with this. I have tried different things but In vain. I will appreciate help regarding this Issue. Thanks in advance.
If you installed XAMPP in the default folder C:\xampp go and manually create the folder C:\xampp\mysql\lib\plugin in Explorer. This should fix the user creation issue.
This error is showing that you can not read in this directory. Please check this on mysql site
Normally it happens when you do not have rights on the folder, easiest is that you should give full control to "Everyone" group. Just right click on folder and in security tab "edit" and select "Everyone group" and in the lower window give check on Full control.

I just installed MySQL workbench (version 8.0.30) through the MySQL installer but I'm getting the following error when opening the application. I tried running it on admin but it still gives the same message

I'm using tt-RSS as an rss reader running on a raspberry pi. Lately it's been running really slowly so I checked the logs to see the below error appear when starting mysql
Can't open and lock privilege tables: Incorrect file format 'servers'
So I googled it and found a post saying to use the skip-grant-tables option and repair the database(s) Post. I got as far as running the first command in the answer and now mysql doesn't work. It appears to be running but whenever I run mysql I get the following message mysql: unknown option '--skip-grant-tables' before being sent back to the prompt.
I cant seem to find any reference to this error anywhere and I cant seem to disable the skip grant tables option to go back.
I've rebooted the machine, restarted mysql and mysqld services and looked in the my.cnf file, where it does say [client server]
skip-grant-tables
If I remove that option and restarted the computer/services then mysql fails to start completely. Otherwise I'm stuck at the above error.
Any help in fixing the error and getting mysql working again would be much appreciated.
I've just installed EasyPHP and in the MySQL section I created a new user called "foo" and checked the box to give it all privileges. When I click on the tab to manage the MySQL user accounts the user "foo" is there. But it shows foo's level of privileges only as "USAGE", and when I mouseover that word it says, "no privileges".
So I tried to update the privileges for foo. But when I try to edit them I get the error
"#1524 - Plugin '*E394918EB0645561038DD951D0CABA8042DDFE14' is not
loaded".
Interestingly, when I go back to the tab for user accounts and mouseover the "root" user it states
"Includes all privileges except GRANT"
Maybe this is why it can't grant "foo" any privileges?
Any idea how to give "foo" all privileges? I'd like to use that as my development account.
PS At the bottom of that page there is a message that says: "
Note: phpMyAdmin gets the users' privileges directly from MySQL's
privilege tables. The content of these tables may differ from the
privileges the server uses, if they have been changed manually."
Could this be a possible solution, and if so, could someone share a link that shows how to change the MySQL privilege table manually?
OK, after hours of searching around I'm getting much closer to a solution.
It turns out that there is an error in the EasyPHP installation package that is related to changes from earlier versions of MySQL. Here is the workaround:
(1) Open the file:
:\Program Files (x86)\EasyPHP-Devserver-16.1\eds-binaries\dbserver\mysql5711x86x160717165359\my.ini
(2) Add this line at the end and then save the file:
show_compatibility_56 = on
(3) Restart the MySQL server from the EasyPHP dashboard.
Oh yes, I also ran the following upgrade from the MySQL command line:
mysql_upgrade -u root -p
This has cleared up some errors which showed up in other tabs that I didn't mention, such as not having permission to access the server status and not being able to get a list of the MySQL variables.
I still would like to solve the original problem but have spent too much time on this initial stage to work on it tonight. If anyone has info that please post.
I had the same issue. What I did to fix it was quite simple.
Exit EasyPhp.
Navigate to directory **\EasyPHP-Devserver-17\eds-binaries\dbserver\mysql5717x86xxx\data**
Find and remove the following files with ext .frm & .ibd
innodb_index_stats
innodb_table_stats
slave_master_info
slave_relay_log_info
slave_worker_info
After navigate to directory \EasyPHP-Devserver-17\eds-binaries\dbserver\mysql5717x86xxx\bin
Open command prompt and type
mysql_update -u root -p
<BLANK>
Afterwords you should see MySQL update, aswell as some of easyphp's files.
Exit mysql terminal, and start EasyPhp again.
Hope that helps!
I cannot log in to my mySQL database server anymore.
I am currently using WAMP 2.2 on Windows 8.1 64 bits.
I tried reinstalling WAMP server but the problem still persists.
I have also edited the config.inc.php file and changed the host name from 'localhost' to '127.0.0.1'; however the problem still exists.
I found the problem, eventually. It had nothing to do with any of the configuration files though.
My ESET Smart Security antivirus updated silently and blocked the mysql application. I did not even get a notification for it!
I figured it out when I tried logging in to phpMyadmin after turning off my antivirus.
I had to allow communication for mysqld.exe in the antivirus settings.
Using the Wampmanager menus take a look at the mysql error log.
left click wampmanager -> MySQL -> MySQL log
If that does not show any [error] messages then also have a look at the 'Windows Event Viewer' in the 'Application' section for messages from MySQL.
The normal problem is a rogue 'my.ini' or 'my.cnf' file on your system. Search for these 2 files in the C;\windows folder, if you find any then delete them.
DO NOT DELETE THE my.ini FILE FREOM ANYWHERE IN THE C;\WAMP folder structure.
Recently I encountered a problem with MySQL, It was showing an error “Error : 1067 the process terminated unexpectedly” when I tried to start the service in services.msc
So I googled it but didn’t found the perfect solution. I will show how can you debug the issue. First look for file my.ini which can be found in “C:\wamp\bin\mysql\mysql5.6.17″ , open that file on look for “log-error”, this will show you the path where error log is stored. In my case it is, “c:/wamp/logs/mysql.log”.
Open the log file and look for last error you got, you should be today’s date when you tried to start the wampmysqld from services. At this stage, you will get error and understand what it say. In my case it is,
enter image description here
The folders for all databases are in “C:\wamp\bin\mysql\mysql5.6.17\data”. To fix I moved kmk folder to some other place. After this, wampmysqld in services.msc is getting started without any error.
When I use PHPMyAdmin to edit or delete a record I am getting an error saying "You don't have permission to access /phpmyadmin/sql.php on this server." But this only happens in some databases. I am the only user according to PHPMyAdmin and through the command prompt on my Linux box.
First off I've changed the PHPMyAdmin access folder because my access logs were showing others trying to get in. Logs don't show any successful attempts.
It was working until today...Now it throws the error. I can still add and drop tables completely, just not edit a record, in two of the five databases. Also I've checked into the user privileges and there doesn't seem to be an issue there.
Anyone have an idea?
EDIT: I have narrowed this down to a conflict between mod_security and PHPMyAdmin, now off to Google to find the solution,
Thanks
What I did was I opened modsecurity.d/modsecurity_crs_47_common_exceptions.conf and added the following to the bottom:
SecRuleEngine Off
And viola it fixed all the issues
