I have strange problem connecting with PhpStorm IDE. I use version 2016.3.2 Build #PS-163.10504.2.
I love using Ctrl + Shift + N for searching files which I need to override. I have 2 project (one new, one old) and in old file searching works fine and in new search only for twig files and nothing else.
Is there any configuration I need to change?
Check filter -- the blue Funnel icon on the right top corner of that popup -- you may have selected to list files of certain types only.
Otherwise -- try universal File | Invalidate Caches... and restart IDE -- it usually helps in such "suddenly stop working" situations.

I have a folder that I want Sublime to always open to ...

Is there somewhere I can set this so that when ever I click on the Sublime Icon it opens to this folder?
For some reason if I manually quit sublime text through the menu it will open my last folder on re-opening.
However, if I just click the close X button, it will not ... it will open a blank window.
Is there somewhere I can set this correctly in the JSON file?
Well not sure if you are aware of it, but ST has a quick switch project (usually ctrl+alt+p) that will show you your recently opened projects.
Of course it has its own drawbacks:
Unable to remove one instance from it without removing all (clear recent projects cache)Can’t open the project in a new window… instead it only replaces the current project
But AFAIK this would be the most optimal way to work with multiple projects. you just need to go to the folder of the desired project and open it once and it will be available as recent project in the future…
The point of having to choose where to save the project file, IMO is because you may want to share the same file with other people or just have them wherever you want… maybe having all in one place is good for you (it is for me as well) but other people might like to have it in separate folders.
I usually work with the project replace window… or just go in “Project -> Open recent -> …” which opens a new ST window for me!

The problem
In PhpStorm I have a style.css- and a app.js-file that I have to upload to a server over and over again. I'm trying to automate it.
They're compiled by Webpack, so they are generated/compiled. Which means that I can't simply use the 'Tools' >> 'Deployment' >> 'Upload to...' (since that file isn't and won't every be open).
What I currently do
At the moment, every time I want to see the changed I've done, then I do this (for each file):
Navigate to the files in the file-tree (using the mouse)
Select it
The I've set up a shortcut for Main menu >> Tools >> Deployment >> Upload to..., where-after I select the server I want to upload to.
I do this approximately 100+ times per day.
The ideal solution
The ideal solution would be, that if I pressed a shortcut like CMD + Option + Shift + G
That it then uploaded a selection of files (a scope?) to a predefined remote server.
Solution attempts
Open and upload.
Changing to those files (using CMD + p) and then uploading them (once they're open). But the files are generated, which means that it takes PhpStorm a couple of seconds to render the content (which is necessary before I can do anything with the file) - so that's not faster.
Macro.
Recording a macro, uploading the two files, looking like this:
If I go to the menu and trigger the Macro, then it works. So far so good.
But if I assign a shortcut key and trigger that shortcut while in a file, then it shows me this:
And if I press '1' (for it to upload to number 1 on the list), then it uploads the file that I'm currently in(!?), and not the two files from my macro.
I've tried several different shortcuts (to rule out some kind of keyboard-shortcut-clash):
CMD + Option + CTRL + 0
CMD + Shift 0
CMD + ;
... Same result.
And the PhpStorm Macro's doesn't seem to give me that many options anyways.
Keyboard Maestro.
I've tried doing it using Keyboard Maestro.
But I can't get it setup right. Because if it can't find the folders (if they're off-screen or if I'm in a different project and forgot to adjust they shortcuts), then it blasts through the rest of the recorded actions, resulting in chaos. Ideally it should stop, if it can't find the file on the screen.
Update1 - External program
Even if it's not possible to do in PhpStorm, - are there then another program that I could achieve this with?
Update2 - Automatic Deployment in PhpStorm
I've previously used this, - but I've had happen a few times that I started sync'ing waaaay to many files, overwriting critical core files. It seems smart, but can possibly tear down walls if I've forgotten to define an ignore properly.
I wish there was an 'Automatic Deployment for theses files'-function.
Update3 - File Watchers
I looked into file-watchers ( recommendation from #LazyOne ). Based on this forum thread, then file watchers cannot be used to upload files.
It is possible to accomplish it using external program scp (Secure Copy Protocol):
Steps:
1. Create a Scope (for compiled files app.js and style.css)
2. Create a Custom File Watcher with scp over that Scope
Start with Scope:
Create a Local Scope with name scp files for your compiled files directory (I will assume that your webpack compiles into dist directory):
Then, to add dist directory into Scope, select that folder and click on Include Recursively. Apply and Move to File Watchers
Create a custom template for File Watcher:
Choose a Name
Choose File type as Any
Choose Scope as scp files(created earlier)
Choose Program as scp
Choose Arguments as $FileName$ REMOTE_USER#REMOTE_HOST:/REMOTE_DIR_PATH/$FileName$
Choose Working directory as $FileDir$
That's it, basically what we have done is every time when a file in that scope changes, that file is copied with scp to the remote server to the corresponding path.
Voila. Apply Everything and recompile your project and you will see that everything is uploaded to the server.
(I assumed that you have already set up your ssh client; Generated public/private keys; Added a public key in your remote server; And, know ssh credentials to connect to your remote server)
I figured this out myself. I posted the answer here.
The two questions are kind of similar but not identical.
This way I found is also not the best, since it stores the server password in clean text. So I'll leave the question open, in case someone can come up with a better way to achieve this.
How can I open few projects in left work area in PhpStorm? I need to quick switch between projects.
If you want to open more than one project in this way (and by this I mean so they have their own different settings), then currently it is not possible.

If you need to include files from those projects for reference purposes (to see how you have done it there, to copy some code from there etc) -- you can include them under "External Libraries" -- Settings | PHP | Include paths. Files included this way are protected from modifications.
If you need to modify those files ... you can add them into actual project as Additional Content Root (Settings | Directories| Add Content Root) -- such folders will be treated as part of the actual project with no separate settings.
Other than that -- Alt + Tab (or whatever the shortcut is on your OS) to switch between different PhpStorm windows (each project is opened in separate window/frame).
This is a right on time answer.
It is possible to quick switch between project by adding a keyboard shortcut to the "manage project" menu.
To do just that, go to Settings > Keymap and search for "Manage Projects". Then add it the keyboard shortcut you desire and you're all set.
Hope this will help someone looking for an answer like I did.
As LazyOne said, you can add paths to your project from Setting | PHP | Include paths or from the useful keystroke F4.
But I'd like to also share how I organise my projects, I think when you create a project, you should not open a new window but instead open it in the same window.
This way you don't get confused between the different opened windows.
In settings you can assign a keystroke to Reopen recent projects. I then use ctrl + shift + R but it is up for you to chose the keystroke you like.
Hope this will help you as I struggled as well to find a way to manage all my current projects.
After moving from Zend Studio (ZS) to PhpStorm, I am starting to miss the way that ZS used to show changed files and display more than one project at once.
For example, notice how it shows that IndexController.php has been modified.
Is there any way to do this with PhpStorm?
Starting from PhpStorm 2022.1:
To highlight folders containing vcs changed files enable:
File | Settings | Version Control | Confirmation | Highlight directories that contain modified files in the Project tree

but to also highlight all parent-folders of changed-files, enable:
File | Settings | Version Control | Show directories with changed descendants

Pressing Alt + 9 (not from numpad) you can get a panel with the changed files.
Go to file >> settings >> Editor >> General >> Editor Tabs.
Check Mark modified tabs with asterisk
Click ok
For PhpStorm version 2022.1.2, on MacOS Big Sur, you will need to go to:
Preferences -> Version Control -> Confirmation, then under Changes you will need to check the "Highlight directories that contain modified files in the Project tree" box.
Another alternative: ctrl + shift + e
To be more specifically. Under File Status (settings)
[option] Have changed descendants
[option] Have immediate changed children
[option] Modified
Change this three color

PhpStorm store all the changes on your file. If you use Git or VCS it is easy to see what changes you have, but this is also availabe for normal local projects.
Open:
VCS -> Local History -> Show History
You will see the big windows divided on 2. Left showing all the versions, right all the modified files. Double click also gives you a diff windows, showing diference between both files.
All The modificationas are shown as a scalar one, means that selecting left the top one will show just last modification. Selecting in left the scond will show agregated modification since this time.

As in PhpStorm 2021 you can achieve it by going to Settings > Version Control > Git and check Enable Staging Area
In a Git toolbar (ctrl+9) tab named Local changes

Go to View & look for Changes option, it should bring up the tree view of changes for current project.
You can also do show diff with current working tree in VSC pane.
I'm using NetBean's Compile on Save setting, and it's really handy when I'm editing a single file. But when I'm dealing with a pair of (or more) class files and am switching between the files, I have a problem:
The Task tab is nearly worthless since it is littered by HTML "error" messages(+) from many dozens of HTML files in the project that are generated by some external tool. The number of HTML errors swamps out any actual Java errors.
What I want is one of:
A way to tell NB to ignore the directory with the HTML files ("help").
A way to turn off HTML "errors" or even to specify HTML2.
A way to filter "Task" errors by file type, parent folder: all Java is under "com".
I've perused the settings and properties, but found nothing that helps.

I found the answer, or at least one that works for me (NB 6.8, YMMV):
In the Tasks tab, click the filter button in the left,
Choose Edit...
In the Task List Filter dialog:
Click New
Enter a value for Name (such as "No Script Messages"),
Uncheck the Scripting Language Tasks option
Click OK.
If the filter doesn't work immediately, you may wish to close/open the Task window or Netbeans.

You can go to Tools->options->Editor->Hint .
You can easily select the right options from there .
I want to use task list to only track my To Do list and It can be a real pain when Netbeans starts showing me #todos from included libraries and all sort of compile errors that I am not interested in. If your use case is like me (not interested in compile errors etc. in task window) then you can do following:- (Netbeans 7.1.2)
1) Tasks window | Right click filter | Edit
To edit the default filter.
Click default filter in left hand panel.
Right hand panel, under Type tab - un-check compile errors and issues
2) You can go to Tools | Options | Miscellaneous
Go to Tasks tab now.
Here you can add/remove the To Do strings that you want.
You can create your own custom todo string or make sure that only one of them is listed (what you use)
Now apply default filter and you will only see your #todo tasks. sane and sweet :D
