How I can pass SSRS parameter with #? When I am trying to choose email from parameter list, I get:
An error has occurred during report processing. (rsProcessingAborted)
Query execution failed for dataset 'DataSet1'. (rsErrorExecutingCommand)
Parser: The syntax for '#xx' is incorrect. (ASF#xx.com).
I need it to filter my MDX dataset.
The values in cubes uses are not simply text, they are members of a dimension with attributes. In order to make the comparison, it needs to be converted to the proper syntax. A good way to add a parameter is to use the SSRS Query Designer.
Go to your Dataset properties.
Click on Query Designer.
Drag the attribute to the top-right corner.
Check the box in the Parameters column.
Click OK.
This will create a hidden dataset along with the parameter. It also formats the dropdown list for you.
If you look in the MDX it creates, there is a StrToSet function that it uses to interpret the string.
Another option that is simpler, but less efficient is to simply apply the filter to your dataset within SSRS.
Go to the Dataset properties.
Go to the Filters tab.
Add a filter that ensures the Email column equals your Parameters!Email.Value

The report parameter 'ServicePriorityNameParameter' has a DefaultValue
or a ValidValue that depends on the report parameter
"ServicePriorityNameParameter". Forward dependencies are not valid.
This is the error I keep receiving when trying to use this parameter.
I also have a WorkCategoryParameter which I specified the values for. Also a RequestNumberParameter in which a request number can be typed into.
I have tried reordering my parameters and also adding a separate dataset in which to run each parameter off of. I'm pretty new to SSRS so any words of advice will help. Thanks!
Reordering the parameters in the designer does not actually reorder them. If you open the report's rdl file (if using visual studio just right-click the report in the solution explorer and select View Code). In there, look for the ReportParameters section and reorder the parameters from there. Basically you need to make sure that any parameters that are dependent on other parameters are listed after the thing they are dependant on.
E.g. If you had a parameter called #Countries to list countries based on continent and the dataset that supplied the values to that parameter read something like SELECT * FROM dbo.MyCountryTable WHERE Continent = #continent then the #continent parameter would have to appear first in the list as #Countries depends on it.

I have a multivalue parameter in a report and I would like to make it the source of a table. Is there a way to accomplish this? I'm coming to the conclusion that one cannot make the data source of a table anything except a dataset.
I tried to make the multivalued dataset (source of parameter) filtered by parameter but that gives a forward reference error (makes sense).
I am now trying to set the visibility property on the table's single text box like this, so it will only make the values visible that are one of the chosen parameter values:
=IIF(Fields!MODALITY.Value = Join(Parameters!Modalities.Value,","),True,False)
but they are all shown (alway true?). Any ideas on how to show a list of the values picked from a multi valued parameter in the report as a table (not just a delimited string in a text box)?
The data source of a table will always be a dataset, but you can use the parameters in a dataset. Something like
select * from dbo.split3(#parameter)
where split3 is a csv to table function, like one found on http://blogs.msdn.com/b/amitjet/archive/2009/12/11/sql-server-comma-separated-string-to-table.aspx
I found an expression that works for changing visibility so that my table shows just the elements in the multivalue parameter that were selected. Perhaps there's an easier way.

Hi I am using SSRS 2008.
My set up is MainReport with dataset1 and 1 parameter - OrderID. One of the columns in dataset1 is ShippingID.
My other report called - SubReport has 1 multivalue paramter - ShippingID.
I am trying to use ShippingID from Main report as multi-value parameter for Subreport.
I tried different threads here but mostly they are diffrent than my scenario.
How do I go about setting this up, is that even possible?
I have been trying to set it up for whole day but unsuccessfully.
In my scenario one Order can be on multiple shipments.
One of the things I tried is creating new multi-value parameter in MainReport - call it shippingIDs_sub and mapping its default value to dataset1.ShippingID. But when I try to run report I get error "The 'shippingIDs_sub' parameter is missing value" - because my MainReport would sometimes return NULL in ShippingID column.
My scenario is very much similar to this

although I sometimes get NULLs in the column used as source for multi-value parameter.
Is there any way to filter out NULLs and run subreport only for existing IDs?
In the Action where you call the sub-report, where you map to shippingIDs_sub, use an expression to pass some valid value whenever the value in your dataset is NULL.

No, you can't turn off the ability to go to a subreport, but you can "hide" it by changing the appearance of whatever your user clicks on so that it doesn't look like it's clickable. For example, in our reports, when something is clickable, we make it underlined in blue. So if I don't want to user to click it, I just make it the same font color/style as all the other text. But it doesn't stop a determined user from clicking on it anyway if they want.
In an existing SSRS 2008 r2, report, I am attempting to add a parameter called 'Customer_Category'. I am getting the following error message:
The report paramter 'CustomerNumber' has a DefaultValue or a ValidVaue that depends on the report parameter 'Customer_Category'. Forward pointing dependencies are not valid.
I am trying to determine how to fix this error. The 'CustomerNumber' is a parameter value that is obtained by reading from a dataset. In this dataset there are existing other parameters called 'Customer_Type' and 'Customer_Preference'. Both of these parameters obtain there values from selections that the user makes when the SSRS report is executing. There are no default values.
I am trying to have the 'Customer_Category' be the same way where there are no default values and the user must select the parameter value when the report is executing. There should only be one value that the user can select from.
The new parameter called 'Customer_Category' is the last parameter in the list of parameters. Does the order of parameters make a difference? If so, how can I move the 'Customer_Category' parameter in front of the customer_number parameter?
Here is the sql that is used from obtaining a list of customers from the dataset for customer_number:-

Summary
The order of parameters in your IDE (Report Designer or Report Builder) matters.
If you have a hierarchy of parameters (one level dependent on the other), the top-level parameter must appear first in the parameter list.
In SSRS these are referred to as cascading parameters.

Select a parameter and use the up/down arrows to adjust order

I have no idea why I keep getting this error. It occurs when I change the MDX in the query designer and trying OKing out of the query designer.
The strange thing is that the parameter DOES exist, I can see it in the parameters section of the dataset dialog. I am creating it before I do anything else with the query.
Although the seemingly intuitive thing to do is add the Parameter in the Dataset Properties window, this actually does not declare the parameter for the query for some odd reason.
To add the parameter, click the Parameters toolbar button in the Query Designer window. From there you can add your parameter names and default values.
Once you've done this, the global parameter list will contain that parameter and allow you to use expressions etc..
Is the parameter defined at the report level? That might be what's missing.
