Can't make bootstrap columns full height - html

I can't seem to get my columns to full height. They are both slighty more then the total height and it's creating a vertical scroll bar.
I'm following this SO thread answer.
The code below isn't working correctly if u run it, but this bootply is demonstrating my issue correctly. The two columns run off the page at the bottom.
Here is my code and my bootply
Because I'm not that experienced with bootstrap, html and css
if there is a better way of doing this please let me know? Thanks!
My code snippet:
html, body, .container-fluid {
height: 100%;
}
.container-fluid {
display: table;
width: 100%;
margin-top: -50px;
padding: 50px 0 0 0;
box-sizing: border-box;
}
.row {
height: 100%;
display: table-row;
}
.col-sm-5 {
background: pink;
border: 1px solid purple;
}
.col-sm-7 {
background: yellow;
}
.row .no-float {
display: table-cell;
float: none;
}

Using CSS calc() will do the trick. This will help you eliminate the vertical scrollbar. Like:
html,body,.container {
height: calc(100% - 18px);
}
Also remove the margin-top: -50px from the .container. Instead remove the margin-bottom from nav.navbar.
Have a look at the snippet below (use full screen preview):
html,body,.container {
height: calc(100% - 18px);
}
nav.navbar {
margin: 0;
}
.container {
display: table;
width: 100% !important;
padding: 0 !important; /*set left/right padding according to needs*/
box-sizing: border-box;
}
.row {
height: 100%;
display: table-row;
}
.col-md-3 {
background: pink;
}
.col-md-9 {
background: yellow;
}
.row .no-float {
display: table-cell;
float: none;
}

Bootstrap trying to align logo to the left as well as center it

I am Trying to align my logo to the left as well as center it on the navbar in that location. I have tried a few different things with no success and i am not able to move it any higher with a bottom padding for some reason. If anybody could offer some assistance it would be great. My logo is 800x800 so that is why i am sizing it down to 45px
Here is my Code:
<nav class="navbar navbar-default">
<div class="container-fluid">
<div class="navbar-header">
<button type="button" class="navbar-toggle collapsed" data-toggle="collapse" data-target="#bs-example-navbar-collapse-1">
<span class="sr-only">Toggle navigation</span>
<span class="icon-bar"></span>
<span class="icon-bar"></span>
<span class="icon-bar"></span>
</button>
<a class="navbar-brand pull-left" href="#"><img id="logo" src="${pageContext.servletContext.contextPath}/static/images/nfl.gif"></a>
</div>
<div class="collapse navbar-collapse" id="bs-example-navbar-collapse-1">
<ul class="nav navbar-nav">
<li class="active">Conferences <span class="sr-only">(current)</span></li>
<li>Divisions</li>
<li class="dropdown">
Dropdown <span class="caret"></span>
<ul class="dropdown-menu" role="menu">
<li>Action</li>
<li>Another action</li>
<li>Something else here</li>
<li class="divider"></li>
<li>Separated link</li>
<li class="divider"></li>
<li>One more separated link</li>
</ul>
</li>
</ul>
<form class="navbar-form navbar-left" role="search">
<div class="form-group">
<input class="form-control" placeholder="Search" type="text">
</div>
<button type="submit" class="btn btn-default">Submit</button>
</form>
<ul class="nav navbar-nav navbar-right">
<li>Link</li>
</ul>
</div>
</div>
#logo
{
float: left;
width:45px;
padding-bottom: 50px;
}
.nav {
float:left;
}
You can use text-align to center it:
.navbar-brand {
text-align:center;
}
And add height:100% to get parent's height:
#logo {
float: left;
width:45px;
height:100%;
}
And you want to fit your logo, then remove wrapper's padding:
.navbar-brand {
text-align:center;
padding:0 !important;
margin:0;
}
.navbar-brand {
text-align:center;
margin:0 !important;
/*padding:0 !important;*/ /*uncomment to fit*/
}
#logo
{
float: left;
width:45px;
height:100%;
}
.nav {
float:left;
}

Here's the CSS:
.navbar-brand { float: none; }
.navbar-center { position: absolute; width: 100%; text-align: center; margin: auto; height:100%; }
--> EDIT: I did it with this code, but if exists another easier way how it is?
.navbar { margin-top: 90px; margin-left: 450px; width: 900px; }
So much thanks for watch this post and the help if you can :)
You don't have to use any tricks.
Just put your code in div with class of container. Set top and bottom margin to body and that is it.
HTML:
<div class="container">
<nav class="navbar navbar-default">
<div class="container-fluid">
<!-- Brand and toggle get grouped for better mobile display -->
<div class="navbar-header">
<button type="button" class="navbar-toggle collapsed" data-toggle="collapse" data-target="#bs-example-navbar-collapse-1" aria-expanded="false">
<span class="sr-only">Toggle navigation</span>
<span class="icon-bar"></span>
<span class="icon-bar"></span>
<span class="icon-bar"></span>
</button>
<a class="navbar-brand" href="#">Brand</a>
</div>
<!-- Collect the nav links, forms, and other content for toggling -->
<div class="collapse navbar-collapse" id="bs-example-navbar-collapse-1">
<ul class="nav navbar-nav">
<li class="active">Link <span class="sr-only">(current)</span></li>

navbar not displaying properly in bootstrap on mobile devices

I'm trying to build a navbar as shown in the image and I have also provided the code that I have used.
I'm happy with the view on a web interface however the view on a mobile device is completely messed. I have provided the screenshots from both the devices.
The logo is not even part of the navbar and I'm having trouble using the right side menu.

One way to do this is to place the left nav dropdown inside the navbar-header so it remains exposed at all times, then position it. You can also position the navbar logo in the center without having to place it inside the links.
See working example Snippet.
.navbar.navbar-custom {
background: white;
}
.navbar-custom .navbar-brand.navbar-brand-centered img {
position: absolute;
left: 50%;
display: block;
width: 130px;
text-align: center;
top: 0;
}
.navbar.navbar-custom > .container .navbar-brand.navbar-brand-centered img,
.navbar.navbar-custom > .container-fluid .navbar-brand.navbar-brand-centered img {
margin-left: -65px;
}
.navbar.navbar-custom .navbar-upper {
position: absolute;
left: 0px;
}
#media (max-width: 767px) {
.navbar.navbar-custom .navbar-upper {
top: -3px;
left: 15px;
background: none;
}
.navbar.navbar-custom .navbar-upper .dropdown-menu {

Fixed nav bar on mobile

Hey I did implement a fixed nav bar (that stays at the top of the page while you scroll down the page) using bootstrap.
To fix it, I added the following css properties :
.fixed {
top: 0;
width: 100%; // Fallback
width: 100vw;
position: fixed;
}
<div class='container-fluid'>
<div class='row fixed'>
<div class='col-xs-4 col-md-4'>foo</div>
<div class='col-xs-4 col-md-4'>bar</div>
<div class='col-xs-4 col-md-4'>blah>/div>
</div>
</div>
It works perfectly fine on desktop and tabets. However, on mobile, the behavior seems a bit weird, and the bar isn't displayed at all. Is it something wrong with what I've done ?
<nav class="navbar navbar-default">
<div class="container-fluid">

css override in bootstrap 3.3.4 not working when eliminating background color in navbar

Basically I can change the background color of the navbar in Bootstrap 3.3.4 to any color I would like by simply using:
.navbar {background-color: whatever color I want;}
except for when I want to remove the color by using:
.navbar {background-color: transparent;}
I've tried numerous ways to get the this done and it works just fine in previous versions of bootstrap is this a known issue or is there a new class that makes the background in the navbar transparent?

CSS:
html {
background: url(../imgs/Hilmy/Hilmy_Sign_FINAL.jpg)no-repeat center center fixed;
-webkit-background-size: cover;
-moz-background-size: cover;
-o-background-size: cover;
background-size: cover;
}
.navbar {
background-color:transparent;
background:transparent;
}
There are two ways to go about this:
change background-color of body. Making the body of the page transparent will make the underlying image visible. By default body has a background-color of white.
html {
background: url(http://cdn.wonderfulengineering.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/simple-wallpaper-26.jpg)no-repeat center center fixed;
-webkit-background-size: cover;
-moz-background-size: cover;
-o-background-size: cover;
background-size: cover;
}
body {
background-color: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0) !important;
/*by default white*/
}
.navbar {
background-color: transparent !important;
}
/*just to put emphasis on the changes*/
/*.container-fluid {
border-bottom: solid;
}
*/
a {
color: black !important;
}

<script src="https://maxcdn.bootstrapcdn.com/bootstrap/3.3.4/js/bootstrap.min.js"></script>
<nav class="navbar navbar-default">
<div class="container-fluid">

OR
instead of using the background property on to the html tag put it in the body of your page.
body {
background: url(http://cdn.wonderfulengineering.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/simple-wallpaper-26.jpg)no-repeat center center fixed;
-webkit-background-size: cover;
-moz-background-size: cover;

border-bottom: solid;
}

The Second option is more preferable.
Ignore the properties added to .container-fluid class and a element, they are there just to make the changes more apparent.
