I have recently downloaded Octave 3.8.0/ 4.0.3 (using MacPorts) in my Mac EI Captain 10.11. However I realised I am unable to amend my code flexibly in octave.
For example for this code "1 / ( 1 + exp(-5))", if using my mouse I tried to place my cursor before "exp" and try deleting the codes prior to "exp", I am unable to do so. To amend this code, I can only make use of my keyboard arrow keys to go back from the end of the code, until it reaches before "e", then only I am able to delete my code.
This is so frustrating. Downloading a more recent Octave version doesn't help as well. Tried researching online but cant find any workable solutions as well.
Will appreciate any help.

I cannot for the life of me figure out how to run and debug a c++ file in vscode. There are always at least one or two things wrong.
I've already used the basic tutorials, but they don't seem to work for me.
Can someone explain it to me like I am 5 years old? Or point me in the direction of a place that will? I am totally burnt out and feel like a total dunce. I can't get a hello world program running and it is driving me crazy. Any help would be appreciated.
Is it on Windows or Linux ?
If on windows, first download and install the mingw setup. You can find it here :
https://sourceforge.net/projects/mingw/
After installation, add the location of th bin of g++ to PATH so that you can access it via the command line.
You can also add some extensions to your VS Code to make debugging C++ code easier, then in VS Code, open the terminal, and , while in the directory where you have your cpp file, simply do a g++ filename.cpp to compile, then run the executable, a.exe, unless otherwise specified in the previous command .
Hope this helps
Make sure that you have c++ compiler I prefer mingw.
Open vscode and go to Extensions or by keyboard shortcut ctrl + shift + x.
Search for .run and install
Search for C/C++ and install.
Go to settings ctrl + ,
By GUI
In the search bar, search for code runner and Code-runner: Run In Terminal will be unticked by default. You tick it and close settings tab. Refer the pic for better understanding.
Finally create a C++ file and save. Go to Terminal and select Run Build Task then click ctrl + alt + n to run the code. Again refer image for better understanding.
This should work, but if still didn't work let me know. Else refer any youtube video , you might have committed small mistake.
Let me know if this didn't work my dear 5 years old guy ;)
I am taking a class on using Octave for machine learning algorithms, and as part of the assignments, they provide a series of .m files to build upon with our own code as well as to run for submission credit through the auto-grader. My problem is that the .m files load perfectly fine in a regular text editor program like Atom or Notepad, but in Octave, the files are best described as nonsense, and thus will not run in the console. If I open the files in a regular editor and copy/paste over the crazy into Octave, it seems to save it and reopen fine. But, I have close to 20 files for the first project alone, and this solution is untenable in the long run. I have a screenshot of how it's loading. Is there some setting I need to change? Uninstall/reinstall Octave? I'm new to Octave and the Octave GUI, and I'm striking out with Google for a solution. I am using version 6.2.0. Thank you for any help/advice!
screenshot of how octave is loading my .m files
Update: I responded to this in a comment below, but I tried loading it another way into Octave GUI and received the following error: ">> error: load: unable to determine file format of 'C:/Users/sophi/documents/octave/assignment_1/computeCost.m" This tracks for me because it makes sense why it would open the files in such a weird way. It's simply not sure what they are. However, I created my own simple functions from scratch to test, saved them as .m files, and was able to run them perfectly fine. I'm including one of the files below. Maybe there's a key in the formatting of the files offered by the class which is impacting Octave's ability to process it correctly?
function plotData(x, y)
%PLOTDATA Plots the data points x and y into a new figure
% PLOTDATA(x,y) plots the data points and gives the figure axes labels of
% population and profit.
figure; % open a new figure window
% ====================== YOUR CODE HERE ======================
% Instructions: .... goes on about assignment
% ============================================================
end
MOST RECENT UPDATE: The plot thickens. Yesterday, I was able to open the files I created and run them in the Octave environment, and I (wrongly) assumed they would still work today. They are doing the same stupid thing as the files included by the course. I checked inside preferences for the editor, and it says it is loading and saving them as IBM273 if that helps. Thank you for everyone has pitched in ideas. I really appreciate it!
It was 100% the encoding. I thought it was strange it was saving/loading in IBM273, so I switched it to UTF-8. Almost all the files are working now. The only ones that aren't are the ones I was trying to copy/paste yesterday to see what was going on with the load problems and the basic new problems I wrote. So I deleted everything, redownloaded, and set the default UTF-8 going forward and voila! Solved! Thanks again!
If you want to open a .m file in octave, Try this solution
It is necessary to declare a current directory before saving a file, loading a file, or running an M-file. By default, unless you edit the Octave shortcut, the current directory will be .../Octave/work. After you start Octave, change the current directory by either using the toolbar at the left-hand side of the screen, or entering the path in the bar at the top.
To open an .m file, you can use file -> open, or type
open filename
After a recent reinstallation of my computer I have encoutered a very frustrating and strange issue with JetBrains IntelliJ.
I have this line of code
this.path_.data.push(r.left, r.top, r.right, r.top, r.right, r.bottom, r.left, r.bottom);
And similar ones around my project.
path_ = new GraphicsPath(GraphicsUtil.QUAD_COMMANDS, new Vector.<Number>());
data inside of path_ is a Vector.<Number> but for some reason I am unable to use the function native AS3 function push(... rest):uint; on it. It just shows me this error
I have tried to find a solution to this issue for the past 6 hours and haven't found anything so far... Hoping anyone here might be able to give some assistance with this issue.
Note: This has never happened to me in the past.
I have looked into the declaration of push() and it points to my library.swf for everything except the code that uses GraphicsPath.data... That file seem to point to ECMAScript.js2 which doesn't contain anything for Vector Objects at all.
I'm trying to package some code up as an ANE, something we've done before in house. However we're currently stuck on an ADT error which I can't seem to wrap my head around.
When running the following from a sh file, I'm getting an error.
Shell script:
ADT="/Applications/air/bin/adt"
NAME="VideoRoll"
AFILE="libVideoRollANE.a"
$ADT -package -target ane $NAME.ane extension.xml -swc $NAME.swc -platform iPhone-ARM -platformoptions platformoptions.xml library.swf $AFILE
Error:
platformoptions.xml is not part of a Mac OS X Native Extensions
framework
All of the files are in the correct place and being clearly picked up by adt, as I'd assume there would be something else I'd be getting back. If you're after the source code, it's an open source library on bitbucket that I've forked and made a couple of changes to. I'm trying to compile it with Adobe AIR SDK 20 to try and fix an issue we're getting but I'm struggling to just build it from the base source right now. The source can be found here: https://bitbucket.org/lostirc/videoroll/src .
Any suggestions would be great, I'm up for trying anything now. I've modified nearly everything I can think of and tried various different orders for the command, it seems if I remove the platformoptions flag and value, then it gives the same error about library.swf, so I'm not sure it's directly related to the platformoptions.xml.
I worked around the problem by running the same command on Windows. This isn't really a solution but a potential workaround for anyone having the same issue. If anyone can post a good answer then I'll accept that, but for now this is the best answer I've got.
Using Sikuli IDE 1.0.1 (according to the "About SikuliX" menu).
Ubuntu 14.04.3, 64 bit, virtual server, via tightvnc + Xfce 4.
One day everything just stopped working though we did not change the sources. Server updates (ubuntu software) are off. Combinations like type('a', Key.CTRL) started to type plain 'a' char, not selecting a text (as before).
We even tried to spin up the same instance type, set everything up there, and run agian. And Sikuli failed to type "Ctrl" again!
We also tried to run the script with "-r", skipping IDE. Same thing - no Ctrl.
Can anybody help?
Thanks!
I suppose you should do it as sequential actions (like you actually do on your keyboard):
keyDown(Key.CTRL)
type("a")
keyUp(Key.CTRL)
Alternatively, you can use the KeyModifier.CTRL in the function type
type("a", KeyModifier.CTRL)
If you're using the
type('a', Key.CTRL)
to simulate holding CTRL and pressing the 'a' key, the method you're using has been depricated. It should more properly be
type('a', KeyModifier.CTRL)
as per the documentation.
Try that and see if that will solve your problem. :)
