I have a form in my Access Database that is used for students to scan their badge and log in. If their badge hasn't been registered, the form just allows them to enter their information. I'm running into a problem where I'm using a Query that pulls their badge number from the previous form (which is inserted into a table temp) and compares it to the table with their information on it.
The problem I'm running into is that when I do this, I can't edit the information in the form, nor can I add more to entries, and when I separate the query and try to just pull from the table externally
(BadgeNumber = [temp]![T2])
it just pulls up a messagebox asking for the value.
Does anyone have any suggestions for accomplishing this?

I'm trying to create a small MS Access database to ease up my everyday job. The problem is I'm a noob when it comes to databases. I'm trying to prevent the user from accidentaly updating the wrong record.
I have a table of records, some of which are not 100% complete.
I created a query that lists only these incomplete records.
On a form, the mentioned query is fed into a listbox.
I want the user to be able to pick an incomplete record from this listbox and fill in some of the remaining parts of the record in a bunch of text boxes. What I don't like is that the record gets updated as you fill in the form fields (they're bound to the table) WITHOUT any request for confirmation. If the user picks a wrong record at the start, the records are gonna get messy with every text box filled. Or that's what seems to be happening.
Here's my idea of the user form:
Is there a correct way to do this? I could force it all with VBA but I'd rather avoid that and use a more native (correct) solution.
Thank you for any answers.
Table constraints are an important part of database design. Any grouping of elements that together are required should be in their own table. This way the required fields must be entered for every record in that table.
For each data entry step you will have one or more tables representing the required data of that step.
If you are following database normalization best practices this should be simple to achieve because your data will already be broken down in to small elements that can have required fields to complete each record.
If you have a record that contains fields that are filled out at different steps then that is a design smell that indicates your table is not properly normalized.
In MS-Access, the forms will follow these rules set in the tables. You will not be able to save a record that has required fields missing.
I am new to MS Access and VBA coding, and what I know I had to teach myself through video tutorials and reading up on the web. I have an input Form which which gets its data from a query. The query itself gets its information from a table and another query. The reason is that the other query is what filters the data so that the current user can only see his/ her own records, and not that of others. It has been designed in such a way that if a subordinate changes from supervisor, one merely have to update the supervisor name, and all the prior data in the table for that subordinate will also then reflect for the new supervisor, and no longer the old supervisor.
The problem is that the delete button on the input Form (which was created with the button wizard) not only delete the record from the table, but also from the table used to filter the subordinates. I only want it to delete the record from the actual table used in the data source query.
How would I go about to stop it from deleting in both tables?
I have attached a snapshot of a portion of the data source query, just so that you can understand what is meant by the above. The delete button on the input Form deletes the data from the table named "TableReviewNotes" and "TableAuditorNames". It should only delete the record from "TableReviewNotes".
Thanks in advance.
I'm pretty new to Access and coding in general and I've been working on a database that was filled with data extracted from SAP.
I have a query that works as a way to "summarize" the information of a bunch of records from some purchase orders, it does sum the total of each PO, it's date as well as other information. It does consolidate a variety of items related to the purchase order into a single record that is displayed in a continuous subform for easy analysis in this structure.
[MES_CORTE][SOLPED][PO][FirstMIGO][TOTALPOVALUE]
This way, the user can preview easily each purchase order, date, value and other relevant information. This query is also used to generate some reports.
However, I want to be able of opening the source table ([Registro_OC]) and search the related records by clicking a field on the subform for a detailed view and posibly to edit or enter new data. is it posible?
I've tried to code some macros but can't figure out how to reference the table fields related to the query fields that are on the form.
Also, it seems that Access doesn't allow to create subforms based on continous forms.
Any help and opinions are appreciated.
I have to create a user-friendly form that allows employees to add details regarding a new shop branch to a data table, also in Access. Using only Microsoft Access, a user has to fill up a form with the relevant details so that a new entry will be appended to a data table.
E.g. A new shop branch will have the fields ShopID, ShopName, and PersonInCharge. Upon filling up a form with these 3 details, a user will click a button "Submit". Doing so will create a new entry in a data table.
I have tried linking the button to run a query that updates the data table but no new entries are created. I have also tried using the "Append" function as part of Query Design, but running it would append "0" rows.
Unfortunately I can't take any screenshots since I'm doing this in a company as part of my internship. This is my first time using Microsoft Access. Would appreciate the help!
In my understanding, you just want to make a simple form that simply add a record into your table right?
why don't you create a desired table first then create wizard form on it. It will automatically generate a form as needed then you can add a button using wizard choose categories -> record operations -> add new record.
Hope it helps!
I have an already created database in MS Access 2003. It has forms that are used to enter data into tables. I want to create a report that shows the values entered through the forms. I am trying to find where the data gets stored when entered through the form so that I can create a report on that table, and I am not able to find it. Can someone please tell me how I can do this?
I would add an additional field to your back end tables, and write the name of the form directly into the record. That way you can query it later.
