First, zabbix web gui can work, but zabbix server stutus is 'Not running'
It means mysql works correctly, because zabbix web can connect it.
Next, I checked zabbix server /var/log/zabbix/zabbix_server.log, here is the details:
14329:20160913:145134.438 database is down: reconnecting in 10 seconds
14329:20160913:145144.439 [Z3001] connection to database 'zabbix'
failed: [0] could not connect to server: Connection refused
Is the server running on host "localhost" (::1) and accepting
TCP/IP connections on port 3306? received invalid response to SSL negotiation: R
Anyone who can help?
Solved. Both zabbix-mysql and zabbix-postgresql are installed. It seems there are some conflicts. Just remove zabbix-postgresql, it works.
+1 to the answer about zabbix-postgresql above
In my case zabbix-server-pgsql was installed along with zabbix-server-mysql.
After uninstalling zabbix-server-pgsql zabbix-server could be sucessfully started and connecting to MySQL DB.
Yes, in my case I had started the Zabbix build with PostGreSQL first before using MySQL.
I then needed decided to go with MySQL so I could try out some of the additional DB features.
In this case, you could remove the specific Zabbix PGSQL instance which will not impact Postgres itself:
yum remove zabbix-server-pgsql
I would imagine if you moved to Postgres from MySQL the same would be true, but I have not yet tested this.
Thanks!

I am using the following DBD::mysql statement to connect to a MySQL database:
use DBI;
# Connect to the database.
my $dbh = DBI->connect("DBI:mysql:database=test;host=localhost",
"usr", "usr's password",
{'RaiseError' => 1});
Is there a way to check if MySQL service is running, before trying to connect to the database? What if the database is running on a remote server?
If you want a solution to check if the service is running without attempting to connect to it, you could use some Perl package to check the process table (works locally only), or check that the MySQL port (3306 by default) has a process listening to it.
I'm not sure what the purpose of this check is, because even if the service is running, the next thing you'll probably want to do is open a DB connection. Opening a DB connection is a quick and easy thing to do, and it has good error reporting if it doesn't work. So your intention to check that the service is running first is just unnecessary overhead.
I would just try to connect as you are doing. This is the most direct way of checking that the service is running, and it works both locally and remotely.
If there's an error, catch the error and interpret the error message. It'll be error 2002 (for localhost) or 2003 (for TCP/IP, whether it's the same host or a remote host).
These errors are mostly reliable. But there could be red herrings, for example if the service is running on a remote host, but your client host can't reach it because of firewalls or routing issues.
If you get an error 1045 (Access Denied), at least you know the service is running and you can reach it, the problem is only that your user & password are incorrect, or you tried to access a schema you don't have privilege to use.
First of all I apologize for my English is not perfect.
I'm trying to connect to mysql database remotely.
I have already done the basic steps such as, for example, comment the bind address in my.cnf.
I gave permissions to the appropriate users in MySQL.
I tried with my friend to do it connect to the database, and it worked but we were in the same room with the same router.
Now I'm home and I tried to connect my friend, but I always get error:
ERROR 2003 (HY000): Can not connect to MySQL server ....
Maybe it's a problem of my home router? I can not even do the telnet.
P.S. I've also taken steps to set the firewall.
Some reasons for that,
mysqld is not running on the local host. Check your operating
system's process list to ensure the mysqld process is present.
You're running a MySQL server on Windows with many TCP/IP connections
to it. If you're experiencing that quite often your clients get that
error, you can find a workaround here: Section B.5.2.2.1, “Connection
to MySQL Server Failing on Windows”.
Check whether the server is running on that host by executing telnet
some_host 3306 and pressing the Enter key a couple of times. (3306 is
the default MySQL port number. Change the value if your server is
listening to a different port.) If there is a MySQL server running
and listening to the port, you should get a response that includes
the server's version number. If you get an error such as telnet:
Unable to connect to remote host: Connection refused, then there is
no server running on the given port.
Look at this mySQL full documentation, it will be helpful.
I has had two days searching and exploring solutions regarding the error 2003.
Can't connect to mysql server on 'Server name'.
The firewall is off and I had added the port 3306, the one that mysql uses.
Any recommendation?
Please refer this FAQ which describes how to solve this issue: http://faq.webyog.com/content/23/15/en/error-no-2003-can_t-connect.html
Error No. 2003: Can't connect to MySQL server on 'localhost' (or some other host)
simply means that connection is not possible for one of the following (or similar) reasons:
There is no MySQL server running at the specified host
Connection to the MySQL server is not allowed using TCP-IP. Check the 'skip-networking' setting in the MySQL configuration file (my.ini on Windows, my.cnf on Unix/Linux). It shall be commented out like '#skip-networking'. If it is not commented out, then do it and restart the MySQL server for the change to take effect. SQLyog needs to connect using TCP-IP.
Some networking issue prevents connection. It could be a network malconfiguration or a firewall issue.
When trying to connect to a MySQL server at an ISP this error message often indicates that direct connection to MySQL has been blocked. You must then use HTTP-tunneling or SSH-tunneling to connect.
It worked for me.controll pannel->administrative tools->services->mysql and start mysql. Some times simple solution saves lot of time.
normally means that there is no MySQL server running on the system .
check your server running
this could be due to firewalls of the system try below command and check
service iptables stop
i have the same issue but i fix it.
my hostname is DEBIAN, i just modify the file my.cnf ( for mysql) and set bindaddress : 0.0.0.0
this option say to mysql to listen all interfaces. restart your server and finish
if your question refer to can't connect to mysql on hosting (cpanel), i also had same problem.
I also turn off firewall, but it doesn't solve my problem.
Rather than using server name or domain name on Mysql Host Address, i using ip address given by hosting provider.
And it works.
Going to services and starting MYSQL service doesn't work for me.
Finally, I hit the following commands inside the MYSQL command-line client:
ALTER USER 'username'#'localhost' IDENTIFIED WITH mysql_native_password BY 'password';
There is a high chance that you are making one of the two mistakes.
First :
You are inputting the wrong password. check your password or change it with
this command
ALTER USER 'root'#'localhost' IDENTIFIED WITH mysql_native_password BY 'very_strong_password';
In place of 'very_strong_password' give a strong password of your choice.
Second:
You are using '#' in the password which can be confused with the other with #localhost.
The SQL Sever might not be installed.
Please refer this to install:
MySQL
The solution worked for me
Go to services and start MySql services
window: press the start button and search services. Then star MySql services
I am having window 7 as a operating system in the production machine where i am trying to use MySQL server 5.0 as a database. But i am unable to configure MySQL on my production machine. Following is the error i am receiving.
The security setting could not be applied to the database because the connection has failed with the following error:
Error no. 2003
Can't connect to MySQL server on localhost (10061).
The message also prompts that you need to open TCP 3306 port to resolve this issue, i checked it and found that TCP 3306 port is already opened and state is listening.
This is my 'netstat -an' command result -
Proto LocalAddress ForeignAddress State
TCP 0.0.0.0:3306 0.0.0.0:0 LISTENING
It means TCP at 3306 is open. Can anyone please tell me the solution of this problem. However i am able to install and configure the same MySQL Server setup in window xp. I tried google as well and found a lot of blogs but none is of use.
Thanks a lot.
Change
host: localhost
to
host: 127.0.0.1
This is likely caused by the way your database is being resolved.
have you checked whether the port 3036 is already in use by another application?
Have you checked whether a telnet hostname 3036 works on the local MySQL server and also on the remote machine?
First check in the system, MySQL services is in running condition or not.
look out on path of services go to right click on My Computer > manage > Services and Application > Services and check MySQL service status is started or not. Otherwise right click on service and start to service.
I hope this will help you.
I didn't find the MySQL services even after solving the problem.
I just run the mysqld as administrator and the problem is solved. So, simple but It took me 3 hours to find the solution.
The problem was rsolved.
The MySQL was not running in the Services section of Settings. Because XAMMP had disconnected the already running application in the background.
I'm running into a little trouble with MySQL Workbench.
This is the situation, I'm developing a database to query it remotely from Android devices. This is the first time I use MySQL Workbench, so I've followed this tutorial:
http://net.tutsplus.com/tutorials/databases/visual-database-creation-with-mysql-workbench/
I have no problem creating the EER diagram and generating the SQL script. The problem comes when I try to connect to a MySQL server. I get this error:
"Failed to Connect to MySQL at 127.0.0.1:3306 with user root. Lost connection to MySQL server at 'reading initial communication packet', system error: 61"
http://img101.imageshack.us/i/capturadepantalla201104i.png/ (if the link stops working tell me)
I've also tried using the Local Socket/Pipe connection method with the MAMP Socket in '/Applications/MAMP/tmp/mysql/mysql.sock', but it gives the same error. And I've also tried using MAMP port 8889 but still nothing.
So anyone knows how to fix it? And another question, can I connect from my Android device to my laptop(where the database is placed) without using MAMP? MySQL needs MAMP to serve queries? And the last thing, am I going into the right way? Or should I do it other way?
Thanks for reading.
I had the same issue, but part of your question is what fixed it for me:
Set connection = Local Socket/Pipe
Set socket path = "/Applications/MAMP/tmp/mysql/mysql.sock" (for me - I got the path from my MySQL log upon initialisation)
Running: MBP, OSX 10.8.3 (Mountain Lion), MAMP Pro
Can't really fathom any further what your issue may be, but perhaps double check your DB is properly initialised. But, perhaps this helps someone else :)
I typed: sudo /usr/local/mysql/support-files/mysql.server start
into the terminal and it started the MySQL server successfully and I was able to connect to MYSQL workbench.
You need to sure that Mysql process is running in your system. not sure in MAC but in windows it'called mysqld.exe
well take a look
http://lists.mysql.com/mysql/124371
Most commonly happens when database/server is not running. You need to check your server, or restart it. You can do so if you have mysql workbench under server administration. Check your manual for restarting or starting the server.
On osx 10.6 using mamp pro I solved this by allowing network access in the MySQL tab from the home window. Hope it saves someone the pain too
When trying to use the MySQL Workbench and connect through an SSH tunnel, you will get this error when your SSH connection does not complete successfully (e.g. improper host, password, key file, etc)
A good way to trouble shoot this is to separately test the the ssh connection from the machine you are trying to connect from and establish that you can do so successfully.
Try closing MySQL and running it as the admin. This worked for me.
After making above improvement such as checking if mysql service is running or not, you just need to give a small password while creating connection, it is ' ' or 1 time press on space-bar in case of GUI or workbench.
After which you just need to validate your machine with server (validated HOST).
For that purpose click on 'New Server Instance' and it will configure server/HOST on your behalf itself.
I have done this successfully just a few couple of minutes ago. My workbench software is able to show all pre-installed databases etc now.
Thanks!!!
I solved it! On a mac just go to spotlight search on the top right of the screen and type Mysql. Turn it on.
