Using iframe to display google maps in hres. Lets say 10000x10000 don't work, because google dont allow you to do this. That's what it says when I open the document in internet explorer. I am doing this because I want to make a big screenshots of google maps and then stitch them in photoshop. This will make a big satellite map which I can use to explore off-road routes with my bike without the need to have access to the internet.
Please if anyone have any ideas; maybe an html code which works?
As mentioned #geocodezip there are certain restrictions you should be aware of. The Terms of Service has the following sentence (paragraph 10.1):
No access to APIs or Content except through the Service. You will not access the Maps API(s) or the Content except through the Service. For example, you must not access map tiles or imagery through interfaces or channels (including undocumented Google interfaces) other than the Maps API(s).
Also paragraph 10.5 says:
No derivative works. You will not modify or create a derivative work based on any Content unless expressly permitted to do so under these Terms. For example, the following are prohibited: (i) creating server-side modification of map tiles; (ii) stitching multiple static map images together to display a map that is larger than permitted in the Maps APIs Documentation; or (iii) tracing or copying the copyrightable elements of Google’s maps or building outlines and creating a new work, such as a new mapping or navigation dataset.

we want to control Google Maps on Android/IOS devices via urls, and we've looked through the docs: https://developers.google.com/maps/documentation/urls/android-intents#display_a_map
These are the functions we need but cannot find in the document:
1. Color Scheme(automatic, day, night)
2. Map type(default, satelite, terrain), Map detail(transist, traffic, bicycling, 3D, Street View)
3. Route options (avoid highways, avoid tolls, avoid ferries)
4. Search along route
If it applies to your use case/implementation, you might want to consider using Maps SDK for Android. This will generally handle styled maps (e.g color scheme, etc.), map types (e.g terrain, satellite, etc), map details like Street View and Traffic Layers.
However for the route options, you need to use a separate web service - Directions API.
Hope this helps!
We are using Google Maps in our application. We are not showing Google Map tiles instead of this we are showing tiles from other sources (e.g. Open Street Map) by tile overlays. So as a result we are showing maps from other source based on Google Maps with Google Maps logo in the left bottom corner. Is it allowed?
As you are using Google Maps API you have to follow Terms of Service of Google Maps APIs. The Terms of Service is pretty straight forward regarding links and logos. Have a look at paragraph 10.5 (g), it reads:
No removing, obscuring, or altering terms of service, links, or proprietary rights notices. You will not:
remove, obscure, or alter any Google terms of service or any links to or notices of those terms, or any copyright, trademark, or other proprietary rights notices; or
falsify or delete any author attributions, legal notices, or other labels of the origin or source of material.
So you shouldn't hide Google logo and links when you use tile overlays from OSM.

I hope this addresses your doubt.
I'm trying to create a tiled grid using google static map images. I use the latitude and longitude in the middle of the tile to request the images (Math found here).
They line up perfectly but whenever a label is split between two tiles, the second tile does not show the label
Label names cut off
Is there any way to format the url such that the images returned are consistent with inter-tile labels?
Your implementation is against of Terms of Service. You should be aware that stitching static maps images is prohibited in paragraph 10.5 (b) of ToS.
Google recently updated Terms of services, but you can find the mentioned text in

I am trying to embed an existing, public Google Map into a website. Specifically this one:
http://goo.gl/maps/cHf2
Of course I could use the iframe embed to achieve this, but I would like a little more control over the map … I imagined being able to pull all the markers from the map and display them as an index next to the map. Kind of like Google already does, but embedded in my page with my own styles and images.
I have been digging through Google, Stack Overflow and the API instructions and couldn’t find any relevant posts. In the GET string of the map on Google we can see this chunk:
&msid=212828439842926497866.0004bfae4da003d8ffd1f&mid=1341413217
I thought in there might be a maps ID and I could use it to query the content of the map through the API? The intention is using Google Maps as a CMS for less technical minded people and not dealing with geo data in our own CMS.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Maybe I am just missing the forest for the trees.
You can download the kml that specifies the markers in that page and display that on your API based map. This example defaults to displaying it using geoxml3, but you can hide that and display the KmlLayer version.
You should be able to just point KmlLayer to the link (I downloaded the kml and put it on my server so it would work with geoxml3).
Here is an example (taken directly from the documentation) that does that

I am developing JavaME LWUIT application which needs to display some data on map.
And I'd like to use Google Maps for this.
I thought about the requirements to the maps and their user interface. They are
listed below:
Pannable map. It should be possible to scroll the map using the touch interface or navigation arrow buttions which are displayed on the map.
Zoomable map. At the best, there should be appropriate +/- buttons displayed on the map.
Search location by address and move to it (menu command).
Remember the last visited location.
Marker for the current location.
Markers with customable icon and text which is displayed when select the marker (click on it or select somehow).
I spent some time searching for appropriate Map Library for JavaME/LWUIT.
I expected to find a free library and map service (ha-ha).
See my results below:
MIDMaps library. URL: http://www.jappit.com/blog/midmaps-google-maps-java-me-library/
That library uses the Google Static Map Service. Not bad... but it needs a lot further improvements...
I found the follwoing issues with that library:
Markers: impossible to customize marker's icon and text. Displaying the marker's text on click/selection is not supported.
Map Panning: no UI controls for this (arrow buttons). Doing panning with menu commands is not a user-friendly.
Map Zooming: no UI controls for this (+/- buttons). Not so important...
License: not permitted to use in a mobile app if not a Google Premier User. Not a problem...
Nokia Maps API for JavaME. URL: http://www.developer.nokia.com/Develop/Maps/Maps_API_for_Java_ME/
Did not try. But looks like that lib fulfills all my requirements.
I am not sure about the following things:
Quality of the maps.
How much does it cost? I mean the cost of using the map service.
Nutiteq lib which uses OpenStreetMap service. URL: http://www.nutiteq.com/map-api
Not free the lib, but the map service.
Guidebee Map API. URL: http://www.guidebee.biz/
It's not free.
Now it's a time for me to ask questions. What should I do? Are there any advices?
Maybe I missed some possibilities or lib/services?
Thank you for your help!
See the Makeover demo in SVN (I updated it to use Google maps instead of Yahoo maps API which was killed off). The GoogleService API should be available in the SVN history it was (deleted because of licensing nonsense) within the IO services directory and it includes local search etc.
Terrence has a a demo that includes allot of interesting features including a browseable map.
You can also look at Waze although I haven't checked it myself, I saw people using open street map and AFAIK there is an open source mapping application based on that (although the license might not be appropriate for you but it might still be useful as a learning aid).
After some additional investigations I decided to use Nokia Maps. And now I have a working application which displays interactive map with my data markers on it and also my current location.
I chose Nokia Maps API because it provided real dynamic maps (panning, zooming, tiling) and fulfilled all my requirements, except "Remember the last visited location" (can be implemented on my own).
I met the following problems:
Using the maps from LWUIT, not from an ordinary MIDP application. I used the approach shown here Nutiteq SDK with LWUIT and also implemented my own MapWidget class for LWUIT.
Displaying additional info on marker click. There is no support for this in the lib. I had to implement it on my own. Details are here JavaME Nokia Maps API: how to display additional info on marker click
Additional info related to the choosing proper map library can be found here Discussion on Nokia Forum
