I want to install mysql 5.6 server on my linux machine. I found the document in https://dev.mysql.com/doc/mysql-repo-excerpt/5.6/en/linux-installation-yum-repo.html.
I guided me to install mysql via 'yum install'. But it seems that the mysql need a huge size about more than 1GB.
But my root directory is very small. How can I change the installation directory.
btw: I also tried other solution like rpm -ivh MySQL-server-5.6.16-1.el6.x86_64.rpm.But in this way, it depend on too much things that was hard to solve.

The best solution is to resize your disk , but you can try this
yum --installroot=[custom_path] install [your_package]
Think to add your custom path to your current path

I am trying to get phpmyadmin installed with yum. I am a beginner regarding this and I have sofar managed to install the EPEL repo and also remi. But when I try to execute yum install phpMyAdmin it tells me it can't be found. I am thankful for any response!
I have tried many different things including what is shown in the picture, but also here it tells me that the php72w-fpm and php72w-opcache cannot be found.

php72w package are from webtatic which is a dead project for 3 years and does not provide anything for EL-8 or EL-9
For a proper configuration / usage of "remi" repository, follow the wizard instructions.
phpMyAdmin is in "remi" repository, which is not enabled by default as it replace some base packages.
So, once PHP is installed
dnf --enablerepo=remi install phpMyAdmin
as a first... yes...yes I know there are 1000 questions and solutions to this. But unfortunately none of them helps me.
Let's get to the problem:
I have a Docker container running on which MySQL is configured. Now I would like to change the bind address from 127.0.0.1 to 0.0.0.0. Unfortunately I can't open my.cnf because I don't have nano, vim installed. With apk, yum, vim, apt-get and so on I get that:
apt-get: command not found
apk: command not found
...
Could someone of you maybe help me out with my little problem?

The default for MySQL docker image has been changed to Oracle based Linux distribution. In this distribution, the default package manager is yum. If for whatever reason you still want to use apt, pull Debian image explicitly. Something like mysql:8-debian.

You could do a docker cp to copy the file out of the container, edit it, and then docker cp it back in again. This may be fine if you need to do this for troubleshooting, but you probably want to look at fixing this in your deployment process. You should be able to destroy and re-create the docker container without having to manually fix configurations. This should be handled in your Dockerfile, or perhaps copying the correct configuration file in in your docker compose file.
I'm trying to install MySQL in my CentOS 6.4 (X86_64) with the command:
"yum install mysql mysql-server"

The problem is you already have a version of some MySQL packages installed that are from a different distribution/vendor than CentOS.
Since different people created the packages using different names and standards, yum does not know how to fix this situation.
You have libmysqlclient16-5.1.69-1.w6.x86_64 installed already providing the client libraries, but the CentOS package is mysql-libs. This package appears to be provided by "webtatic":

Likely you need to consider removing the libmysqlclient package and installing mysql-libs in it's place. That will probably remove some items because of dependencies, you might be able to get away with manually removing it with the rpm --nodeps -e, but it may also be the packages cannot have their dependency satisfied by mysql-libs so slightly risk move if you don't fully check everything first. This often works, though.
As an alternative looks like you can install the mysql server package from webtatic as well, based on their instructions here, that might be a less complex alternative if you are happy to continue relying on their repository:

As far that I know, that error will shows up when you attempt to install packages that already have been installed before. So, you probably should reinstall your mysql.

When I build a LAMP environment in ubuntu-12.10,
first I installed mysql by mysql-5.5.12.tar.gz,but it told me that it can not find configure
file,it was here:

XAMPP has downloadable Linux binaries, you just download, extract and run /path/to/xampp/xampp start - I'd recommend those as the easiest way to set up a LAMPP stack.

Obviously by eschewing the use of apt, you are working with the knowledge that your apache/php/mysql will become obsolete and you will have to work to keep them secured and up-to-date.
I'm trying to use Ruby with the MySQL that comes with MAMP, but there is a problem with the headers not being installed (or something like that).
Someone referred me to the tutorial copied below but I can't get it to work. When I put in the first line ./configure... it says no such directory.
1) One question in particular is, it says, "copy the MySQL source file (mysql-5.1.37.tar.gz) to somewhere on your hard drive." I don't know if by installing MAMP I have already done this step or not. If not, then I don't know what to do.
2) I also don't know what it means when it says "untar" the source file and "cd"...If MAMP is installed, has it been untarred already?
3) Also, do would I just open the terminal and start this code, or do I have to go into Mysql?
I wonder if anyone can tell me how to adapt it. Here are 2 other pieces of information about my installation that might be helpful.
a). MySQL is set up on port 8889 on my computer.
b) Also when I enter "which mysql" in the command line, it responds with "/usr/local/mysql/bin/mysql."

Download the latest MAMP dmg file.
Download the 1.8.2 (or whichever the latest one you could find) components file from this page.
Unzip, mount the dmg, then copy the MySQL source file (mysql-5.1.37.tar.gz) to somewhere on your hard drive.
Untar the MySQL source file, and `cd` to the source file directory.
Compile the library:
$ ./configure --with-unix-socket-path=/Applications/MAMP/tmp/mysql/mysql.sock --without-server --prefix=/Applications/MAMP/Library
$ make -j2
Copy the compiled libraries into MAMP:
$ cp libmysql/.libs/*.dylib /Applications/MAMP/Library/lib/mysql
Copy the MYSQL headers into MAMP:
$ mkdir /Applications/MAMP/Library/include
$ cp -R include /Applications/MAMP/Library/include/mysql
Install the Ruby MySQL Gem, on Snow Leopard:
$ sudo env ARCHFLAGS="-arch x86_64" gem install mysql -- --with-mysql-config=/Applications/MAMP/Library/bin/mysql_config
On Leopard:
$ sudo env ARCHFLAGS="-arch i386" gem install mysql -- --with-mysql-config=/Applications/MAMP/Library/bin/mysql_config

You should probably follow the tutorial in this link. It is updated for MAMP 1.9.5 with mysql2. A couple of changes have been made to the new MAMP version.
