Hello I have a laravel and android app. Latitudes and Longitudes are posted from the android app to the server.
Now I am supposed to find the distance in km between two points given that the latitudes and longitudes for both location have been provided.
I tried to google it and found this: mjaschen/phpgeo which seems to be able to do that.
However a modification has been now made to our system where I have been asked to find the distance between those two locations by road, e.g. route length.
I have been told that this is possible with google maps. However I am not aware of any google map package or api for php/laravel.
Is there a google map package that can help me do this and is this even possible? If yes then how would I go about implementing this?
Summary: Finding the distance by road between two locations in kilometers assuming coordinates have been supplied for each of those locations.

I am working on an app where I need to check if some points are within a city or X km outside of it, so I need to find the city's radius then add the X variable to it. I've been looking on Google Maps and OpenStreetMap and I could not find such info.
Is there any API that provides the city's average width? Or distance between the center and the edge?
Based on the Latitude & Longitude of two given points, you can find the distance between those points.
So fetch the Location (Latitude & Longitude) for the centre of city and the point needed, using Google Maps API's and find out the distance implementing the logic.

Post calculation of distance, you verify if it is in the required range based on X.
I came across the same problem and here is the best method I found so far,
Using the service Geoapify
you can find the placeid for a city using the geocoding API
We can then create a location filter based on the place id as documented here
we can also use that filter for autocomplete to allow only for places inside the city

I have a set of lat/long data stored in a db table[id, lat, long, location]. I'm using geo-location to get a user's current physical location(lat and long). When this user accesses the app, allows his location to be shared, I want to get those coordinates that are around his current coordinates, and plot them on a Google Map.
How can this be done?
Example: I have the coordinates for hotels in a city stored in my DB table. When a user visits this city and accesses my app, I want to get from my DB and plot on map only those coordinates that are around him in a certain radius.
Note: I'm using PHP for server side stuff.

You describe a store locator: finding POIs within a radius around a particular point. A store locator finds POIs within a radius around a location. The details in Google's example are different (you find the centre point via browser geolocation and have a fairly small radius) but the principle is exactly the same.

I need to find points that define delimitations of neighbors from Chicago.
My question is: How can I find a list with latitudes/longitudes of all the points that delimit neighbors. For example:

What is the best way to extract this points so I can draw poly-lines over google map with google API for specific neighbors?

So with addresses, which you already have, you can create a Maps API site:
http://code.google.com/apis/maps/
and use the Geocoding API to get the latitude and longitude of each of the addresses.
Added: Seems based on your comment that you're looking for neighborhood boundary data. Google Maps doesn't provide that data. There are different venders that do, one I have heard of is the Zillow Neighborhood API. I have never used it so I don't know much about it.
Does anyone know if Google Maps consider elevations and the actual path on earth to calculate distance between two points or it only considers geographical locations for distance measurement?
If you are referring to using google.maps.DistanceMatrixRequest then yes, it considers the actual route when calculating distance, based on the option provided in travelMode

When there is no established route (at least known to google) i'm sure (from experience) the response is the distance 'as the crow flies' between 2 lat/long locations. [experience based off making the request for a path that bisected a large lake]
I was able to query Google directions api for the driving distance between two points but they don't expose a way to get the distance or directions for the subway. Is there a good api out there that does this?
