PhpStorm, recent projects only show folder names instead of project name - phpstorm

Some time ago PhpStorm started to only show the foldernames of my projects instead of the project name. This is very annoying since all my projects follow the same folder structure:
C:\webserver\ [Client] \ [Project] \ htdocs
See this screenshot:
I tried:
Renaming the Project inside PhpStorm
Editing the .iml and .name Files inside the .idea folder
Both did not solve my problem.
I am using PhpStorm 2016.2 EAP. Project name does show up correctly in the title bar of PhpStorm itself.

It is a regression in 2016.2 version that quite few people have faced.

UPDATE: (21-July-2016)
This issue is resolved in 2016.2.1 (EAP build 162.1447.5 from 20/07/2016).
Is there any reason why you cannot create a project 1 folder up (which would usually be named after actual project name/domain name)? This would solve your problem (at least in your case).

PhpStorm set all files / folders to brown background and weird structure

So I just noticed that my PhpStorm has set a background color to my project and also the structure is weird. All best explained by some screenshots.
This is how it is looking now, I cannot even see my App folder etc here:
After I click on Project in the top and then select Project Files, I can see my structure again like normal:
My question is, what does this mean and how can I set it "back to normal"? As for me, "normal" means the following:
I can see all my files in Project and also there is no brown background color.
What I have done so far, as suggested from Google searches, is:
Close the project, remove it from recent projects and opening it again in PhpStorm.
Removing the .idea folder and opening my project again.
Reload All From Disk.
Invalidate Caches.
P.S. This is a new Laravel project, with only some minor changes and all files added to git, and also just did one last commit. Nothing "fixes" this.
This "yellowish" background means that the IDE treats those files/folders as excluded or not part of the project (i.e. outside of the project). This can be caused by some broken/out-of-sync project config file (for whatever reason, e.g. when making a project and there is incomplete .idea folder already / merge conflict etc).
Deleting .idea subfolder while IDE is closed and then reopening the project is enough to fix it (use "Open" and point to the project root folder and PhpStorm will make a new project from existing files).

Magento Layoutviewer (Alan Storm) not working after installation

Magento version: 1.9.2.4
I am currently working through this tutorial, and am trying to install the Layoutviewer module.
I following the link on the page to where I could get the layout viewer, and then used the manual install guide on this page to install it.
The module is being detected by magento, and is listed on the Disable Modules Output section (it is enabled).
The directory tree for the module is as follows:
magento1
app
code
local
Magentotutorial
Layoutviewer
I have also made sure that the config file's name and contents are 100% correct.
When I try to use the module (http://127.0.0.1/magento1/helloworld/index/index/?showLayout=page) it doesn't work, and just shows me the screen as it was before.
Is there anything I could be missing, or did I perhaps install the module incorrectly?
edit
I have already found this previous question that is basically identical to mine, but it's very old so I don't want to comment on in - it did not help me solve the problem.
Problem resolved:
I placed the Layoutviewer in the Magentotutorial directory, but it was supposed to be in it's own (Alanstormdotcom) directory.
Both of these solutions worked:
Move the module to the correct directory or
Replace all references to Alanstormdotcom/alanstormdotcom to Magentotutorial/magentotutorial
Found this Googling for the same problem. My problem was that I put Storm's module in /community/Alanstormdotcom/. It won't work from there, it must be in local (/local/Alanstormdotcom/).

PHP Storm: how to remove project without deleting files

I accidentally made the entire PHPstormProjects folder, which contains all of my projects, and turned it into a project. When I realized my mistake, I deleted all the files which I had uploaded into the project, but it still lists it as a PHPStorm Project.
I don't want to simply delete the project, as it contains all of my other projects. Is there any way to 'unset' a PHP project?
On "Welcome" screen (when all projects are closed) just select unwanted project and press Del key.
To make sure that IDE will not treat this folder as a Project -- just delete project settings (.idea subfolder) when that project is closed.

How to change Active configuration in monodevelop?

I'm following these steps to build sdrsharp on stable Debian. So fr, everything went without a hitch, but I can't figure out this step:
cd into the new sdrsharp directory and then load monodevelop and open the sdrsharp.sln project. If the .sln doesn't open use a text editor to open the .sln file and at the end of the first line change the 12.00 to 11.00. Older versions of monodevelop don't understand the VS2012 header.
Set the Active Configuration from Debug|x86 to Release|x86.
The first one is just given for context, monodevelop has no problem opening the file. But how do I change the Actove Configuration?
Monodevelops internal help is broken, I have no experience with monodevelop or similiar tools as I'm no coder, hence asking here.
Edit to add
The same question was asked and answered here, there should be an option under the "project" tab. But in my case, working from the downloaded .sln, all options under project are grayed out. What to do?
Fixed! The Version had to be changed back to 11 (first bullet point above, relevant to my special case), then reopen file, then it's opened as a project, not as a text file and all the options work.
Take home lessen: That a progeam opens a file without complaining does noit mean there's no error.

PhpStorm - How can I avoid creating the .idea folder?

I don't want PhpStorm to create an .idea folder. Is this possible?
I'm working in a new environment where I pretty much MUST figure out a way to remove them or I have to change IDE, which I really don't want to do.
Can't PhpStorm store the project files and settings in its own directory?
I don't want PhpStorm to create an .idea folder. Is this possible?
No, but workaround is very simple and described in the actual ticket body: http://youtrack.jetbrains.com/issue/WI-343 :
WORKAROUND: Actually you can do it for a long time - but only manually. Just create a new project anywhere where you want to store your project data, then go to "Settings | Directories" and detach its dir and attach your project root folder.
Just remember to open this folder instead of actual one next time.
Maybe, as an alternative, if you use a VCS, you can add .idea to your VCS ignore list? For example, for Mercurial it is called .hgignore and for Git - .gitignore.
