SQl server data tools (SSDT - BI) for SQL Server 2014 - ssis

We are upgrading from SQL Server 2008 R2 to SQL Server 2014 and I tried to install SQL server data tools for 2014 for SSIS, SSAS. From all the forums I read online, I installed Visual studio 2013 on my machine first and then I added SSDT 2014 for Visual studio 2013.
Is this the right way to do SSDT-BI 2014 Installation?

SSDT for Visual Studio 2013 has 2 versions: The one that has only DB tooling and other with BI components. You need to look for "SSDT-BI"
Here you go:
Microsoft download link for SSDT-BI
For VS 2015 and SQL Server 2016, the current version of SSDT comes with both SQL Server tooling AND BI components, so it's one download.
Hope this helps!

If you want to install only SSDT-BI for SQLServer2014, without requiring VS2013 license, then follow the below steps to setup development environment for SSIS, SSRS and SSAS.
Install Microsoft Visual Studio 2013 Shell (Isolated) Redistributable Package
Install Microsoft Visual Studio 2013 Shell (Integrated) Redistributable Package
Install Microsoft SQL Server Data Tools - Business Intelligence for Visual Studio 2013

Find Version of Visual Studio Tools for Application in use by SSIS

I have a client who has Visual Studio Tools for Applications 2015, 2017 and 2019 installed. They are in the process of moving to a new server and need to identify what version the SSIS packages (that are deployed to the SQL Server) are using. How do I get that information?
Thanks.

How do I open SSRS (.rptproj) and SSIS (.dtproj) files in Visual Studio 2015? [duplicate]

I want to use SSIS /BIDS project in Visual Studio 2012.
I have both Visual Studio 2010 and Visual Studio 2012 installed along with Microsoft SQL
Server 2012.
VS 2010 was installed first followed by MS SQL 2012 which got me BIDS integrated with VS 2010.
However I cannot seem to find any help on integrating BIDS with VS 2012.
I came across few question on SO related to this topic but all of them had integration with 2010 and not 2012.
I know that with MS SQL 2012 I get a SQL Server Data Tool. Does this mean that Visual Studio 2012 and BIDS cannot be integrated ?
Solution 2012:
I had to update the solution here since one of the answers I received partially solved the issue. The Answer provided by did solve the issue #user2141936 but I kept on getting an BlockMixedArchitectureInstall error while updating an existing instance.
It worked without with creating a new instance!!
Side Note :
Installing the update broken my publishing database project onto 2012 server. You need to download and install a DACFramework patch for it.

Welcome to Microsoft Marketing Speak hell. With the 2012 release of SQL Server, the BIDS, Business Intelligence Designer Studio, plugin for Visual Studio was renamed to SSDT, SQL Server Data Tools. SSDT is available for 2010 and 2012. The problem is, there are two different products called SSDT.
There is SSDT which replaces the database designer thing which was called Data Dude in VS 2008 and in 2010 became database projects. That a free install and if you snag the web installer, that's what you get when you install SSDT. It puts the correct project templates and such into Visual Studio.
There's also the SSDT which is the "BIDS" replacement for developing SSIS, SSRS and SSAS stuff. As of March 2013, it is now available for the 2012 release of Visual Studio. The download is labeled SSDTBI_VS2012_X86.msi Perhaps that's a signal on how the product is going to be referred to in marketing materials. Download links are
Microsoft SQL Server Data Tools Business Intelligence for Visual Studio 2012 (SSIS packages target SQL Server 2012)
Microsoft SQL Server Data Tools Business Intelligence for Visual Studio 2013 (SSIS packages target SQL Server 2014)
None the less, we have Business Intelligence projects available to us in Visual Studio 2012. And the people did rejoice and did feast upon the lambs and toads and tree-sloths and fruit-bats and orangutans and breakfast cereals
Today March 6, 2013, Microsoft released SQL Server Data Tools – Business Intelligence for Visual Studio 2012 (SSDT BI) templates. With SSDT BI for Visual Studio 2012 you can develop and deploy SQL Server Business intelligence projects. Projects created in Visual Studio 2010 can be opened in Visual Studio 2012 and the other way around without upgrading or downgrading – it just works.
The download/install is named to ensure you get the SSDT templates that contain the Business Intelligence projects. The setup for these tools is now available from the web and can be downloaded in multiple languages right here: http://www.microsoft.com/download/details.aspx?id=36843
First Off, I object to this other question regarding Visual Studio 2015 as a duplicate question. How do I open SSRS (.rptproj) and SSIS (.dtproj) files in Visual Studio 2015? [duplicate]
Basically this question has the title ...Visual Studio 2012 / 2013 What about ALL the improvements and changes to VS 2015 ??? SSDT has been updated and changed. The entire way of doing various additions and updates is different.
So having vented / rant - I did open a VS 2015 update 2 instance and proceeded to open an existing solution that include a .rptproj project. Now this computer does not yet have sql server installed on it yet.
Solution for ME : Tools --> Extension and Updates --> Updates --> sql server tooling updates
Click on Update button and wait a long time and SSDT then installs and close visual studio 2015 and re-open and it works for me.
In case it is NOT found in VS 2015 for some reason : scroll to the bottom, pick your language iso https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/mt186501.aspx?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396

Team Foundation Server 2010 on Windows Server 2012

We will migrate from Windows Server 2003 to Windows Server 2012.
My question is if we can use Team Foundation Server 2010 on the new server, or if we need to update to TFS 2012?
It appears that Sharepoint Foundation 2010 doesn't support Windows Server 2012, and I believe SQL 2012 doesn't work with TFS 2010, but if you can live without Sharepoint and you can use SQL 2008 R2 (or prior), you should be fine.
Take a look at: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/vstudio/dd578592.aspx
Notice where it says:
Because Team Foundation Server installs SharePoint Foundation 2010 with the standard configuration, you can’t use it on Windows Server 2012. If you want to install Team Foundation Server on Windows Server 2012, use the advanced configuration and skip the installation of SharePoint Foundation 2010.
Regarding SQL 2012, take a look at this: http://blogs.msdn.com/b/bharry/archive/2013/01/11/tfs-2010-will-not-support-sql-2012.aspx
I am unable to get TFS 2010 running on Windows Server 2012 because TFS doesn't seem to recognize the IIS 6.0 compatibility mode. See:
Error installing TFS 2010 in Windows Server 2012
and
Application Tier Configuration Failed For TFS 2010 on Windows Server 2012 R2
Magol and Adam (or anyone else), have you got it running successfully?

What tools do I need to create SSIS packages on Windows 8?

I am running Windows 8 and need to develop SSIS packages.
The version of SSIS packages I need are SQL Server 2008 R2.
I am new to SSIS but it is my understanding that I need to install SQL Server 2008 R2 and Visual Studio 2010 in order to be able to create an Integration Services project (which will contain my SSIS package). Is this correct?
Does anyone know what I need to install? I have installed SQL Server 2008 R2 and Visual Studio 2010 Premium however I do not get the option of Integration Services project template.
I have Visual Studio 2012 installed but it is my understanding that VS2012 cannot be used for SSIS package creation.
You need Business Intelligence Development Studio (BIDS) if you want to create SSIS packages with SQL Server 2008 R2 version. BIDS uses Visual Studio 2008 Shell. Visual Studio 2010 is not required for SSIS development with SQL Server 2008 R2.
However, if you are using SQL Server 2012 then you need SQL Server Data Tools (SSDT) which uses Visual Studio 2010 Shell.
Answer to the below SO question contains the steps to install Business Intelligence Development Studio (BIDS) using SQL Server 2008 R2 installer.
How do I enable Integration Services (SSIS) in SQL Server 2008?
Windows 8 and SSIS development for SQL Server 2008 R2 and SQL Server 2012 works fine.
SQL Server 2005 will use the Visual Studio 2005 shell (devenv) for BIDS (Business Intelligence Designer Studio)
SQL Server 2008 and SQL Server 2008 R2 use the Visual Studio 2008 shell for BIDS
SQL Server 2012 uses Visual Studio 2010's shell for SSDT (SQL Server Development Tools). They have a roadmap for using Visual Studio 2012 environment as well but have not released the project templates yet.
For all those choices, you never need to have a Visual Studio installation. The SQL Server installer will put the shell onto your machine and the associated ssis/ssrs/ssas project types when you select the option in the installer.
