SSRS URLs having issues - reporting-services

A little background info...
By far and large the URLs worked perfectly fine. Occasionally either my machine, or the server itself couldn't access the Web Service URL or the Report Manager URL. For the server a restart fixed this, for me I had to reset my winsock which never worked and ended up System Restoring to a working date.
When I say couldn't access I mean getting the "This Page Cannot Be Displayed" message, or the "Please turn on TLS 1.0 etc etc" message.
The last few days the issue is now widespread. Everyone was having issues gettings to the URLs even the server. I figured it may have been some windows updates causing issues so I removed all the updates around the timeframe in which it started and tested and got nothing.
Came back the next day (today) and same issue except the only way to access it is through a hyperlink thats clicked or copy/pasted.
The issue:
If you manually type the URL it will not work. You have to copy and paste the hyperlink from a working page. I used a link to a rendered report and deleted back to /ReportServer and it pulls up the directory. I've never seen something like this happen before.

The Solution:
Apparently you have to type in www. as well
I was so use to skipping that for most pages.
https://analytics.domain.com/ReportServer = fail
https://www.analytics.domain.com/ReportServer = win

Webpage with ampersand in its name suddenly stopped loading ("bad request")

My boss has tasked me with remaking his business website from the ground up. I'm pretty new to web design and am learning as I go. Our webhost created a WordPress staging site that I can work on while the original site stays up and running. Recently we've encountered a real problem: a very important page on our original (current) website has a filename that includes an ampersand. It loaded perfectly for customers for over a decade, but now suddenly refuses to load, returning a "bad request" error message for any browser we've tried. The page's URL is in this format:
www.example.com/Gems&Rocks.htm
I changed all instances of '&' to 'n' in the HTML code as well as the file names associated with it, and that got the page working again. Problem is, there are hundreds of other pages across the internet that backlink to this important page under its original name. My boss is adamant that I find a way to get the original filename with the ampersand in there so we don't lose business. He thinks this is all my fault, but I did absolutely nothing to change the old website. The webhost's tech tells me he can't do anything about it, and that this emergent problem wasn't caused by anything he did because he hasn't changed anything on the webserver in over a year. He says the '&' is a reserved character and shouldn't have been in the pathname anyway. Nevertheless, our page loaded just fine for many years.
Searching the web has done me no good, it's like I'm the only person in the world who has encountered this problem. But surely someone else has had such a thing happen. So I guess my specific questions are:
Did pages with '&' in their name suddenly stop loading for everyone or just our website?
Is there a way to "trick" our website into loading the page instead of deciding the '&' is a "bad request"?
Can a URL redirector be set up that sends users from "Gems&Rocks.htm" to GemsnRocks.htm?
The "bad request" error comes from your web host's server. If it worked previously, but now shows that error, then something MUST have changed on the server.
It is possible that you might be able to redirect that request. You don't say what server your web host is using. It's likely to be some version of Apache and you probably have .htaccess configuration available to you. One option might be to put something like this in your .htaccess file:
RedirectMatch 301 ^/Gems\&Rocks\.htm$ https://example.com/GemsnRocks.htm
Whether or not that works will depend on the server that you are running on and how it is configured.

How to remove all data chrome stores for a url?

TL;DR I'd like to make chrome's state as though it had never, ever visited a certain url before.
Longer version:
I'm working on an application, and have a complicated problem regarding XSS vulnerabilities, which could be caused by the browser 'remembering' something about a previous session which could cause nonces to not match. The upshot is that I need to be absolutely sure that when I visit the app url that chrome hasn't 'remembered' anything about it from any previous session(s).
Here's what I've tried:
Firstly, visiting: chrome://settings/cookies/detail?site=example.com and deleting all the cookies
Secondly, visiting: chrome://settings/clearBrowserData and deleting everything (unfortunately, this doesn't seem to be possible for one url at a time?)
I can prove that chrome has not completely 'forgotten' the site. The proof is complicated, but basically if I place a different app (with different flavicon) at the url, visit the url, then close out that tab, then complete the steps above to clear browser data and cookies (at this point chrome should have forgotten everything). Yet when I put a different app at the same url and visit the url, chrome uses the old app's flavicon, which (I think) proves that it hasn't completely forgotten everything it knew about the url!
So, that's the long version. But, the TL;DR is to simply make it as though chrome had never visited a site (preferably without altering data stored for other sites, or doing anything extreme like completely uninstalling/reinstalling)
A third attempt
To empty cache and hard reload, press cmd + opt + j to bring up the developer console, then right click on refresh and select 'Empty Cache and Hard Reload'. Yet the old flavicon still remains, indicating that not all info from that site was removed.
After about 2 hours, I figured the following techniques to try to remove the flavicon, but even after all of the following steps, as the flavicon from a previous app still remains in Chrome's 'memory'!
Do the first two steps from the question:
visit: chrome://settings/cookies/detail?site=example.com and delete all the cookies (replace example.com with the url in question)
visit: chrome://settings/clearBrowserData and deleting everything (would be great to know how to do this for a single site)
Right click on the tiny icon to the immediate left of the url (it will be a lock if using https, or the letter 'i' if using http).
Go into each of categories listed (e.g. 'Cookies', 'Site Settings' etc) and delete them all
Note
I didn't find a solution for removing all data from chrome, however, I found you can start a completely isolated chrome session with these instructions

TFS 2015 Code Viewer Not Working in Google Chrome

I found the following issue here in stackoverflow however cannot comment as yet. I have a similar issue and wonder if there is anyone out there that has solved it.
https://stackoverflow.com/questions/40917501/tfs-2015-web-portal-code-viewer-not-working#
I am encountering similar here. In house TFS 2015, can't view code in the web portal using Google Chrome however IE is fine. I, however, am not using HTTPS so may be experiencing something slightly different.
When I do try to view a file in Chrome, the window where the code listing should be is simply blank. I did note too that the button for creating a new build definition appears to be indicating a broken image link.
This has not always been an issue. Around 4 months ago I could get the code view fine in Chrome and, to my knowledge as I have no access to the servers, nothing has changed apart from Chrome updates.
I've tried getting to previous versions of Chrome to no avail, though I wouldn't know which version I was on when this did work.
Interestingly, I have one or two .MD files around and these display perfectly well. They are simple text files. However when saved with .TXT extension (or anything else I've tried), they do not show. Curious.
Update
As you will see from the screenshot below, when selection on a file has been made, in this case a .SQL file, where I would expect the view to populate nothing at all appears.
As for the F12, I do get 5 of these:
Failed to load resource: net::ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED
plus associated paths of course. We use Webroot internally here which has recently dropped in a Chrome extension however even when Webroot is disabled in its entirety (including removal of extension) I get the same behaviour.
All other Chrome extensions have been removed too at varying times to try to give a clean browser.
I have no other pop up blockers, ad blockers, etc installed on the workstation.
Problem solved thanks to the F12 key suggestion.
After some grovelling I was granted domain admin privs to have a dig around everything. It turns out that TFS was installed on ServerA with a URL port of 8080, this I knew from the original install and obviously the path I follow to get to my TFS web interface. What had also been done subsequently, with no consultation of the Dev user group, was that a second TFS application tier had been installed on ServerB, the port here was 8088.
I had not noticed the difference in path initially, assuming it was Chrome or workstation related. Anyway, I altered the port on ServerB to 8080 and everything jumped into life. I should not have made assumptions and should have paid more attention to the path in the error!
It seems the second application tier was set up on a non-production environment to allow senior Dev users access to the TFS Management Console rather than allowing them access to the original app tier which was on a production box. Our IT Operations just forgot to tell anyone.
Try to update your chrome to latest version of (55.0.2883.87 m (64-bit)).
Also clear the cache of chrome. I have also encountered similar issues. The solution is clear cache and connect to the web portal use another ID, then connect back use the original ID. I have no idea which one solved the problem. You could try both.
This problem should only be an individual phenomenon, since TFS2015 has been released for a long time.

This webpage has a redirect loop (ERR_TOO_MANY_REDIRECTS)

We have a site that is not working in Google Chrome V44. It works well in IE and Firefox. All of sudden after updating chrome browser to V44, we unable to login to the system and just receiving this problem.
We're trying to figure out as why this is happening. We have 2 instances of our system in our server. Our live site is the one that is not working in Chrome V44 while the other - our demo site is fine. The only difference of the these sites is that our live has SSL. So our first impression is that there's a problem with Chrome V44 with our site with certificate.
I think Chrome can't establish secure connection with the site.
Has anyone experienced this issue?
Please help. Thanks.
This is due to a SSL in Chrome V44 where it incorrectly sends a HTTP_HTTPS header to be set, however the HTTPS header is still set correctly. It has been quite widely reported: http://www.zdnet.com/article/brand-new-chrome-44-release-added-a-bug/
https://ma.ttias.be/chrome-44-sending-https-header-by-mistake-breaking-web-applications-everywhere/
In order to stop this, in PHP, I added the following to the very top of my index.php file:
<?php
if (!isset($_SERVER['HTTPS'])) {
$_SERVER['HTTP_HTTPS'] = 0;
}
?>
Ensuring there is no space between the ?> and the next
I've recently had the chrome redirect loop on gmail.
Possibly significantly, I was doing some work involving changing my system time and it hasn't worked since. This guide helped to do that.
There is an available work-around, which is to use gmail in incognito mode, which does still work, although requires you to log in each time
In that case I would say this is an internal problem with you organization's setup. I would speak with your SysAdmin or IT staff. But just to be sure, use your phone carrier's internet, or a cafe nearby, basically something off your network to check if you can reproduce the error.
The issue with my MVC solution was, i had recently updated complete Nuget packages in my solution. After the update i forgot to update
<assemblyBinding xmlns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:asm.v1">
<dependentAssembly>
section with new dll bindings which installed while update. So in my hosting server due to connectionstring issue, i was not overwriting the current .config file. So once i did the update in assemblyBinding section in .config file the issue gone.
There might be many reasons for the redirect loop. If you are confident your setup is done properly without any errors, then it might be the issue with your browser. You can try the following
Deleting cache and cookies
Correcting your system time (if it is not set to automatic)
Resetting the browser
Source
You should be able to fix this problem, you can try to clear your cookies in your browser
Open your Chrome browser.
Type "chrome://settings/clearBrowserData" in the address bar and press Enter.
Make sure you are clearing items from the Beginning of time. Then select Cookies and other site data. Click the Clear browsing data button.

URL opening error in Flash CS4

I have a script that loads a php page for variables. There are no problems when the swf is uploaded to the site but when I run it locally, I keep getting "Error opening URL" messages. I'm using absolute pathing and if I paste the URL my script is using in a browser, the correct page opens. This only started happening after the site changed servers. Any ideas what the problem could be? Thanks.
The "Error opening URL" seems to be caused by a number of issues. I have tried to keep track of all the different solutions I have used in the past to fix the problem. Ever time I encounter the "Error opening URL" the solution is different. Hopefully one of these solutions helps you.
I usually find the following solutions on google.
- Make sure crossdomain policy is setup correctly.
- Set a bunch of variables like Security.allowDomain(domainHERE)
- Change publishing setting for your flash file.
- Make sure your connecting to the right url.
Here is what works for me... usually.
1) Make sure you are connecting to the right URL.
Use the full path, don't use relative links. Also, copy and paste the url in your web browser to see if it connects.
You can also use flash.events.HTTPStatusEvent.HTTP_STATUS to view the HTTP headers but I would recommend you check out solution 5 first. Its a much easier way with more details.

2) Put a crossdomain.xml file in the root of your server (usually public_html or www)
<?xml version="1.0"?>
<!DOCTYPE cross-domain-policy SYSTEM
"http://www.adobe.com/xml/dtds/cross-domain-policy.dtd">
<cross-domain-policy>
<allow-access-from domain="*"/>
</cross-domain-policy>
Source:
http://www.senocular.com/pub/adobe/crossdomain/policyfiles.html
3) While editing the flash file, press Ctrl + Shift + F12
Make sure Local playback security is set to Access Network Only.
4) If you are hosting locally using MAMP, WAMP, XAMP or something similar, skip this step. Otherwise, Call your webhost and yell at them ;)
I have hosted with godaddy, hostgator and liquidweb. It seems that all of them have some kind of firewall setup blocking flash from accessing the files you want it to.
Give your host a call, tell them your problem and ask them to whitelist the files you are trying to connect to and you should be good to go.
Remember, everytime you want to connect to a new file, it has to be whitelisted. I always forget this and it takes me 3 hours to figure out why changing the name of my file or moving it messes everything up. :)
5) Use Charles Web Debugging Proxy Program to gather some important information.
I will break this down into a few steps.
Usually for me the "Error opening URL" is due to a coding problem on the site I'm trying to connect to.
Open Charles
Run your flash file
Select the site your flash file tried to connect to in Charles side bar.
View the Response tab near the top.
On the Response tab you should see a few other tabs near the bottom. View the Headers tab.
See what HTTP_Status was returned. Then look search this page to see what that status code means. It will give a somewhat broad definition but it still helps narrow things down.
500 Means a problem with your server... If your server is running fine, then its most likely a code problem.
Then view the Text tab near the bottom of the Response tab. This will show you exactly what that webpage looks like to flash. If your server is in some kind of debug mode where it displays errors, this is where you will see them.
Well I hope this helps someone. I will try to continue to update it with more issues and solutions I run into. This is probably the number one problem I run into with flash. Super annoying!
Crossdomains.xml file possibly?
not really a solution, but a work-around:
before CTRL-ENTER on your .fla, do a CTRL-S
this seems to work about 90% of the time for me
NOTE: I never had this problem until one random day about 6 months ago. Now it plagues most of my old projects, cs4 or cs6.
