I made a menu, and I want the dropdown to go centered underneath the 'Fruitsoorten' tab. But now all three of the items are next to each other.
Does anyone know how to fix this? Thanks in advance.
nav {
float: right;
border-radius: 15px;
margin-right: 15%;
}
nav ul {
list-style-type: none;
margin-top: 55px;
background-color: black;
}
nav li {
display: inline-block;
position: relative;
padding: 10px;
}
nav li ul {
display: none;
}
nav li li {
display:
}
nav li:hover ul {
display: block;
}
nav a {
text-decoration: none;
color: white;
font-size: 20px;
}
nav li:hover {
background-color: gray;
}
<nav>
<ul>
<li>Home</li>
<li>
Fruitsoorten
<ul>
<li>Kersen</li>
<li>Appels</li>
<li>Pruimen</li>
</ul>
<li>
<li>Team</li>
<li>Agenda</li>
<li>Foto's</li>
<li>Vacatures</li>
<li>Contact</li>
</ul>
</nav>
You can also try this styles.
http://codepen.io/nehemc/pen/LkyQvq
nav {
float: right;
border-radius: 15px;
margin-right: 15%;
}
nav ul {
list-style-type: none;
margin-top: 55px;
background-color: black;
}
nav li {
display: inline-block;
position: relative;
}
nav a {
text-decoration: none;
color: white;
font-size: 20px;
padding: 10px;
display:block;
}
nav ul ul {
display: none;
position: absolute;
z-index: 999;
left: 0;
margin-top: 0;
}
nav li:hover ul {
display: block;
}
nav li:hover {
background-color: gray;
}
Add following code to reflect
nav ul { margin-top: 0; }
nav li ul {
display: none;
position: absolute;
left: 0;
z-index: 9;
}
Also clear your HTML code with proper closing of </li>
To affect your inline-block styling to main ul only,
Do this:
nav>ul>li {
display: inline-block;
position: relative;
padding: 10px;
}
instead of
nav li { display: inline-block; position: relative; padding: 10px; }
nav {
float: right;
border-radius: 15px;
margin-right: 15%;
}
nav ul {
list-style-type: none;
margin-top: 55px;
background-color: black;
}
nav>ul>li {
display: inline-block;
position: relative;
padding: 10px;
}
nav li ul {
display: none;
}
nav li li {
display:
}
nav li:hover ul {
display: block;
}
nav a {
text-decoration: none;
color: white;
font-size: 20px;
}
nav li:hover {
background-color: gray;
}
<nav>
<ul>
<li>Home
</li>
<li>Fruitsoorten
<ul>
<li>Kersen
</li>
<li>Appels
</li>
<li>Pruimen
</li>
</ul>
</li>
<li>Team
</li>
<li>Agenda
</li>
<li>Foto's
</li>
<li>Vacatures
</li>
<li>Contact
</li>
</ul>
</nav>
is that what you want?
nav {
float: right;
border-radius: 15px;
margin-right: 15%;
}
nav ul {
list-style-type: none;
background-color: black;
}
nav li {

}
nav li ul {

nav li li {

}
nav li:hover ul {

padding:0;
}
nav a {

I want to create a website which is responsive for every size of screen.
If I use the Chrome emulator, it works fine.
But if i call the website from my smartphone, I see the complete navigation bar instead of the resized navigation bar.

<h1> Mobile-compatible Responsive Dropdown Menu Demo </h1>
</body>
Try this.
#nav {
width:750px;
margin:0 auto;
list-style:none;
}
#nav li {
float:left;
}
#nav a {
display:block;
text-align:center;
width:150px; /* fixed width */
text-decoration:none;
}
Method #1 is primarily using margin:auto; to center the nav. If your menu items (li/a) are a fixed width, then this method is probably the easiest way to center your nav. The essentail pieces of code used to center the nav are in bold.
Check out this site for more. Hope it helps!
I have a simple <nav> with an unordered list inside:
nav {
position: absolute;
right: 0px;
white-space: nowrap;
}
nav ul {
padding: 0;
margin: 0;
}
nav ul li {
clear: both;
white-space: nowrap;
color: white;
display: inline-block;
}
nav ul li a {
color: white;
background: black;
text-decoration: none;
text-align: center;
font-family: statellite;
padding-left: 25px;
padding-right: 25px;
height: 37px;
margin-left: -4px;
padding-top: 18px;
display: inline-block;
}
nav ul li a:hover {
background: #000;
}
nav li a:nth-child(1):hover {
background: red;
}
<nav>
<ul>
<li>HOME
</li>
<li>MUSIC
</li>
<li>LIVESTREAM
</li>
<li>LINKS
</li>
<li>ABOUT
</li>
</ul>
</nav>
I am trying to make a different color on hover for each child <a>
but instead it is selecting all of them (highlighting them red)
nav li a:nth-child(1):hover {
background: red;
}
What am I doing wrong?
All your A are the first element of their parent. You must apply the nth-child on the LI element, not on the A:
nav li:nth-child(1) a:hover {
background: red;
}
nav {
position: absolute;
right: 0px;
white-space: nowrap;
}
nav ul {
padding: 0;
margin: 0;
}
nav ul li {
clear: both;
white-space: nowrap;
color: white;
display: inline-block;
}
nav ul li a {
color: white;
background: black;
text-decoration: none;
text-align: center;
font-family: statellite;
padding-left: 25px;
padding-right: 25px;
height: 37px;
margin-left: -4px;
padding-top: 18px;
display: inline-block;
}
nav ul li a:hover {
background: #000;
}
nav li:nth-child(1) a:hover {
background: red;
}
nav li:nth-child(2) a:hover {

I have noticed my nav bar is transparent and I would like it to not be. I have no previous opacity/transparency set that would cause it to be inheriting the property. I would like to make my nav bar non transparent.
Here is the CSS:
nav {
margin: 20px auto;
text-align: center;
}
nav ul ul {
display: none;
}
nav ul li:hover > ul {
display: block;
}
nav ul {
font-size: 25px;
background: white;
padding: 0px;
border-radius: 10px;
border-style: solid;
list-style: none;
position: relative;
display: inline-table;
}
nav ul:after {
content: "";
clear: both;
display: block;
}
nav ul li {
float: left;
}
nav ul li:hover {
background: black;
}
nav ul li:hover a {
opacity: 1;
color: white;

nav ul li a {

Updated CSS of yours
nav ul li:hover {

}
nav ul li:hover a {
color: white;
position:relative;
z-index:1;
}
Updated Fiddle
Have you tried;
nav {
background: white;
}
Elements are transparent unless you set a background on them or its inherited.
EDIT: If this doesn't help set up a fiddle for us jsfiddle.net.
In your css
nav ul {
font-size: 25px;
background: white;
padding: 0px;
border-radius: 10px;
border-style: solid;
list-style: none;
position: relative;
display: inline-table;
}
background is white.
If you change background to other colour may be your problem will go off. Hope it will help
Cheers !!
I'm trying to make a basic dropdown menu with css and html. However when I hover on the li that has to drop down, my whole menu comes down with it.

<li>Contact</li>
<li>Account
<ul id="login">
<li>Change password</li>
<li>Update details</li>
<li>Logout</li>
</ul>
</li>
</ul>
</nav>
And the CSS
nav {
height: 70px;
width: 100%;
position: fixed;
top: 0;
left: 0;
}
nav ul ul {
display: none;
}
nav ul li:hover > ul {
display: block;
}
ul {
margin: 0;
padding: 0;
list-style: none;
margin-left: 5%;
}
ul li {
display: inline-block;
width: 15%;
text-align: center;
line-height: 70px;
}
ul li a {
text-decoration: none;
color: #fff;
font-size: 2em;
display: block;
}
ul li a:hover {
border-bottom: solid black 1px;
}
ul#login{
margin: 0;
padding: 0;
list-style: none;
}
ul#login li {
display: block;
width: 30%;
text-align: center;
line-height: 70px;
}
ul#login li a {
text-decoration: none;
color: #fff;
font-size: 2em;
display: block;
}
ul#login li ul li{
width: 20%;
}
ul#login li ul li a {
text-decoration: none;
color: #fff;
font-size: 0.7em;
display: block;
}
ul#login li a:hover {
border-bottom: solid black 1px;
}
I know it's a lot of CSS for such a basic menu but I don't know how to make it more compact.
Can someone please tell me what I'm doing wrong with the dropdown menu?
Add this css
ul li{
position:relative;
}
#login{
position:absolute;
top:71px;
left:0;
}
