Hover don't works as expected - html

The problem is that when I hover on li, hover do not work, with the first one it works but hover area is not the same as div's size.
This is a sidebar that works by checkbox without javascript.
here is HTML
<input type="checkbox" id="sidebartoggler">
<div id="page-wrap">
<label for="sidebartoggler" id="toggle">☰</label>
<div id="sidebar">
<ul class="elements">

Sorry for my english.
Thanks for Your help!

The problem is you are using padding-left on .page-content; this is causing the contents to shift to the right as desired, but the div is partially sitting on top of your menu and interfering with the hover events.
Change it to use margin-left:
.page-content {
position: relative;
z-index: 0;
transition: margin-left 0.5s;
}
...
#sidebartoggler:checked + #page-wrap .page-content {
margin-left: 180px;
}
.page-content {
margin-left: 0px;
}

How do I move my hamburger in css and still have it functional?

So i have made a website with HTML and CSS. It has different effects like the parallax effect(a very simple version of it), transparent navbar, and now I am trying to make my Navbar responsive. Everything works, but my hamburger menu is very far to the left and when I find a way to move it, it doesnt work after i moved it.
As you can see it is very close to the top of the screne and so far to the left that it is past the logo. I want it to stay to the right even if i made the screen smaller ofr bigger, like it moves with the screen when i move it.
This is my css code:
#font-face {
font-family: 'Poppins';
src: url(Fonts/Poppins-Regular.ttf
}
#font-face {
font-family: 'Comfortaa';
src: url(Fonts/Comfortaa-VariableFont_wght.ttf);
}
#font-face {
font-family: 'DancingScript';
src: url(Fonts/DancingScript-VariableFont_wght.ttf);

Does anyone know how to make the hamburger menu move to the right side of the screen?
Update your .hamburger, .toggle-menu styles like this
.hamburger, .toggle-menu {
display: block;
position: absolute;
right: 30px;
}
Update the value of right according to your need.
You could always use flexbox. The following lines of code will display this on the right hand side:-
nav {
display: flex;
flex-wrap: wrap;
align-items: center;
}
.navigation {
margin-left: auto;
}
Add this to your navigation class:
.navigation{
position:relative;
}
and then this to your hamburger menu to make it stick to the right.
.hamburger{
position:relative;
right:8%;
}
The position absolute will make the hamburger-menu stick relative to the navigation bar and right 8% will stick it to the right.
You must understand the importance of HTML structure and positioning because this is the problem in your HTML.
To fix your problem, you need to put the burger menu and the check box in one container and then position the container.
The problem now is that you are positioning every part individually and their width and height are not properly set.
try to follow the steps I mentioned then let us know if you can do it or not.

Height 100% on a absolute positioned element

I was trying to make navigation bar of a demo present here http://www.templatemonster.com/demo/51129.html

ul.submenu-1 li a {
display: block;
padding: 20px;
color: white;
font-size: 1em;
}
ul.submenu-1 li:hover {
background: white;
}
ul.submenu-1 li:hover a {
color: #ba4b07;
}
Js:
$(function(){
$('.top-nav ul li a').on('mouseover',function(){
$(this).addClass('hoverNav');
}).on('mouseout',function(){
$(this).removeClass('hoverNav');
});
$(window).on('scroll',function(){
$('.top-nav-wrap').addClass('top-nav-scrolled');
if($(window).scrollTop()==0){
$('.top-nav-wrap').removeClass('top-nav-scrolled');
}
});
});
The problem over here is .submenu:hover > div having height:100%;.
I saw many answers over here regarding height 100% but was not able to understand.
height:100% over here is taking only some part of the whole div and not the full.
I could have used hardcoded pixels but all my submenus are of different size and using the same class.
EDIT : Moreover using height:auto wont let my css transition to work. and same with using max-height.
I want my css transition to stay.
Change your sub-menu to height:auto, thus it calculates height according to the child elements present inside, as below.
Update to achieve height transition, you could try something as below, still height will be auto, but could transit using inner elements.
.submenu:hover >.submenu-wrap {
height:auto;
}
.submenu:hover >.submenu-wrap> ul.submenu-1 {
padding-top: 15px;
padding-bottom: 30px;
}
.submenu:hover >.submenu-wrap> ul.submenu-1 li a {
padding-top: 20px;
padding-bottom: 20px;
}

How to fix nav bar to bottom of the screen for mobile view>

I currently have a sidebar as a navigation bar when I am viewing on desktop. In the desktop the view, the icons and text are side-by-side with the icons on the left, and the text on the right.
I was trying get it so that when it collapses down to mobile view, the sidebar to collapse to a nav bar that's fixed to the bottom of the screen. With the icons on top and centered underneath the text.
This is currently what I have: http://codepen.io/anon/pen/bpRgEJ
This is my code for trying to get to to position at the bottom:
#media (max-width:35em) {
.main-nav {
background: #ECC264;
border-right: 1px solid #e5e5e5;
position: fixed;
margin: 0;
left: 0;
bottom: 0;
height: 5em;
width: 100%;
}
}
It currently collapses into a top nav bar, and the icons and text are side-by-side as opposed to being top-and-bottom.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks!
First of all, i suggest you to organize your CSS as the following:
1.- General selectors and clases with rules that will affect everything
2.- Media Queries that affect only the behavior for certain width.
So if you need a navbar that is always fixed, but for desktop is positioned on the left side of the screen and for mobile is on the bottom of the page you should write something like this:
.sidebar{ /* Every rule that will be always visible, something like colors, fonts, etc. */
background-color: yellow;
position: fixed;
}
#media(min-width:35.1em){ /* Larger than mobile devices */
.sidebar{
left: 0;
top: 0;
bottom: 0;
width: 40px;
}
}
#media(max-width:35em){ /* Breakpoint only for mobile */
.sidebar{
bottom: 0;
width: 100%;
}
}
In that way you will avoid dealing with rules that doesn't match together.
Your complete CSS should look like this:
.fa-2x {
font-size: 2rem;
}
.fa {
position: relative;
text-align: center;
vertical-align: middle;
font-size: 2rem;
}
.main-nav {
background: #ECC264;
border-right: 1px solid #e5e5e5;
position: fixed;
z-index: 1000;
}
.main-nav>ul {
margin: 0rem 0rem;
}
nav ul,
nav li {
outline: 0;
margin: 0;
padding: 0;
}
.main-nav li:hover>a,
nav.main-nav li.active>a{
color: #fff;
background-color: #919191;
}
.main-nav .nav-text, .main-nav li>a{
font-family: 'Roboto', sans-serif;
}
.main-nav li>a {
border-collapse: collapse;
border-spacing: 0;
color: white;
font-size: 1.03rem;
text-decoration: none;
}
#media (min-width:35.1em) {
.fa{
display: table-cell;
width: 5rem;
height: 5rem;
}
.main-nav:hover,
nav.main-nav.expanded {
width: 15em;
overflow: visible;
}
.main-nav{
top: 0;
bottom: 0;
height: 100%;
left: 0;
width: 5rem;
overflow: hidden;
-webkit-transition: width .05s linear;
transition: width .05s linear;
-webkit-transform: translateZ(0) scale(1, 1);
}
.main-nav li {
position: relative;
display: block;
width: 18rem;
}
.main-nav li>a {
position: relative;
display: table;
-webkit-transform: translateZ(0) scale(1, 1);
-webkit-transition: all .1s linear;
transition: all .1s linear;
}
.main-nav .nav-text {
position: relative;
display: table-cell;
vertical-align: middle;
width: 10rem;
}
}
#media (max-width:35em) {
.main-nav {
background: #ECC264;
border-right: 1px solid #e5e5e5;
position: fixed;
margin: 0;
left: 0;
bottom: 0;
/*height: 5em;*/
width: 100%;
}
.main-nav ul{
display: table;
width: 100%;
}
.main-nav li{
float: left;
width: 25%;
list-style-type: none;
text-align: center;
}
.main-nav a{
display: block;
padding: 5px;
height: 74px;
}
.main-nav i, .main-nav span{
display: block;
}
.main-nav span{
font-size: 14px;
}
}
Your example forked in Codepen: http://codepen.io/xWaZzo/pen/BKZpQE
This should do the trick.
#myNavbar {
position: relative;
}
#myNavbar .nav {
position: absolute;
bottom: 0;
right: 0;
margin-bottom: -10px;
}
http://jsfiddle.net/DTcHh/1819/
You should remove top:0 from
.main-nav {
background: #ECC264;
border-right: 1px solid #e5e5e5;
position: fixed;
/ *top: 0;*/
bottom: 0;
height: 100%;
left: 0;
width: 5rem;
overflow: hidden;
-webkit-transition: width .05s linear;
transition: width .05s linear;
-webkit-transform: translateZ(0) scale(1, 1);
}
Also increase height in media query class
#media (max-width:35em) {
.main-nav {
background: #ECC264;
border-right: 1px solid #e5e5e5;
position: relative;
margin: 0;
left: 0;
bottom: 0;
height: 20em;
width: 100%;
}
}
Hope this is you want?

Unwanted padding on the bottom of div

I'm having trouble with the header div of this website I'm making. There is padding or something appearing underneath my horizontal menu bar even though my padding is set to 0. I know that similar posts have been made about the but I have read quite a few and none of the answers seemed to do the trick for me. I have changed the background of the header div to yellow to make it more visible. There is also a pixel or two on either side of the menu bar which are unwanted. I'll put my css and html code below. screenshot
<div class="big header">
<img src="Images/headerphoto.jpg" alt="header_photo">
<div class="navbar">
<ul>
<li><a class="active" href="default.asp">Home</a></li>
<li>Contact</li>
<li>About Us</li>
<ul class="logo">
<li><a class="logo" href="http://www.linkedin.com"><img alt="in" src="Images/linkedinlogo.png"></a></li>
<li><a class="logo" href="http://www.facebook.com"><img alt="fb" src="Images/facebooklogo.png"></a></li>
<li><a class="logo" href="http://www.twitter.com"><img alt="tw" src="Images/twitterlogo.png"></a></li>
<li><a class="logo" href="http://www.rss.com"><img alt="rs" src="Images/rsslogo.png"></a></li>
</ul>
</ul>
And here is the relevant CSS. (The 'Big' class is what I'm using for all the major elements on the page.)
body {
background-image:url("Images/background.png");
background:tile;
}
.header img {
width: 100%;
}
.header {
background-color: yellow;
height: auto;
padding-top: 30px;
padding-left: 0px;
padding-bottom: 0px;
margin-top: 10px;
}
.big {
width: 80%;
margin-left: auto;
margin-right: auto;
box-shadow: 0px 0px 20px #C5C5C5;
}
Here is the css for my navbar.
.button {
background-color: #3EB5F5;
border: none;
color: white;
transition: all 0.5s;
cursor: pointer;
}
.button span {
cursor: pointer;
display: inline-block;
position: relative;
transition: 0.5s;
}
.button span:after {
content: '»';
position: absolute;
opacity: 0;

You have an error in your HTML:
<ul>
<li><a class="active" href="default.asp">Home</a></li>
<li>Contact</li>
<li>About Us</li>
<ul class="logo">
The only descendants of either <ul> or <ol> should be <li>. It is possible that this could be the issue.
I corrected the markup in two ways, without reproducing your issue:
By wrapping <ul class="logo"> inside of an <li> (essentially assuming it was a sublist in your list
By closing your first <ul>, and then letting the second list sit adjacent to it
But I also could not reproduce your issue by leaving the markup alone
So, the issue may be:
You need to use a CSS reset to remove default margins and paddings that the browser is providing
There is another ruleset that is adding padding to your .header
That other ruleset may have a higher specificity
That other ruleset may have an !important declaration

Child element hiding sibling

I would like to see my menu links.
I have implemented a CSS dropdown menu using the checkbox hack.
I have attached an icon to the bottom of the menu. When triggered, the menu drags the icon down along with it.
However, the icon's "margin" (according to dev tools) covers the entire width of the menu, such that the only way to display the links in the menu is to make the menu drop down significantly lower, changing:
#navbar-checkbox:checked + .menu ul {
max-height: 50px; ==============> 75px
z-index: 3;
}
I have tried just about everything I can think of: from z-index, to all kinds of positions, to transparent to opacity etc.
I simply want to display the links.
body {
background-color: purple;
}
.menu {
padding: 15px 15px 0px 15px;
background: transparent;
min-height: 2.75em;
line-height: 0em;
border-bottom: 1px solid white;
position: relative;
}
.logo {
color: white;
transition: 0.4s ease-in-out;
}
#logo {
background-image: url("http://www.rocstarr.com/Tipapalooza/files/tipapalooza-icon-100x100.png");
background-repeat: no-repeat;
background-color: transparent;
background-size: 80%;
display: block;
margin-top: 35px;
margin-bottom: -10px;
height: 50px;
width: 50px;
transition: 0.4s ease-in-out;
z-index: 2;
}
.logo:hover {
color: mediumturquoise;
transition: 0.4s ease;
}
.menu .logo div {
position: absolute;

margin-top: -20px;
}
.logo p {

}

<input type="checkbox" id="navbar-checkbox" class="navbar-checkbox">
<nav class="menu">
<a class="logo" href="http://myapp.com">
<div class="logo">
<p>myapp.com</p>
</div>
</a>
<ul>
<li>how it works
</li>
<li>about us
</li>
<li>contact
</li>
</ul>
<p id="logo"></p>
<label for="navbar-checkbox" class="navbar-handle"></label>
</nav>
Inorder to see the links visible just try to adjust the padding of .menu li padding: 4em 0 0.6em; to padding: 2em 0 0.6em;
here are corrections:
put these before
<p id="logo"></p>
<label for="navbar-checkbox" class="navbar-handle"></label>
<ul></ul>
these style must be added and edited
#logo {float: left;}
#navbar-checkbox:checked + .menu ul {
max-height: 75px;}
My advice:
#navbar-checkbox:checked + .menu ul {
display: block;
}
#navbar-checkbox + .menu ul {
display: none;
}
Do not use height as parameter.
