I'm a newbie, and maybe I don't have the good keywords for my search.
Here's my question.
I'm trying to generate a md (markdown) file and I want to know if it is possible to get the current username, as i'm inside a gitlab project.
To get an output like
I'm "username"
when reading the markdown file.
Thanks for your explanation !
I'm assuming you are just talking about a markdown file in a GitLab repository. In that case, it's not possible since it's only a static file and the GitLab server doesn't do any processing on it. So there's no way to have it display differently for each user.

My situation is...
I have few hundreds of chrome html files on one folder, and I want to replace certain text(ex. james) to another text(ex. tom) for every html files. Honestly, I'm just a beginner to python, so may I get a detailed code of it? I need 1. how to open every html file in one folder 2. how to find certain text on html 3. how to replace it to another text (on python) Thanks a lot.
you can just open up the directory in VSC and bulk replace all the instances of any string in all the HTML files directly. I required to do the same and found this to be a very convenient method.
After basic knowledge of HTML/CSS/JS and Jquery, I got myself into WordPress. In order to save time and not build things from zero, I would use pre-made templates, and modify them according to the built of the desired future webpage. There might be a huge misconception in my head, but so far I havent found reply for this solution.
I have a locally running WordPress webpage with the help of WAMP. My webpage would consist 3 separate HTML files, lets say "index.html, contact.html, about.html". My issue is that after generating those pages in WordPress, I dont find any way to modify the HTML file of those sites. Nor locally in my computer, nor in the surface of WordPress. I found the "editor" function in WP, but apparently it lets me to edit only the CSS file.
My main goal is to generate the file with a template, than import it to BRACKETS / ATOM / etc and custom-shape the HTML and CSS on it. What am I missing ?
Thanks,
Wordpress only has templates it uses according to the type of content (page, blog post or any other custom post type you define in the theme) requested. All your actual data is stored in the mysql database. This data is retrieved and inserted into the template and then the generated file is sent to the client. So, you wont find any .html files in the wordpress core. My suggestion is to view the source in the browser, copy, paste and edit in your favourite editor.
I think you are using HTML files as a template which are not dynamically converted into wordpress theme. that's why you can't edit these files. You need to follow these steps.
1. your index file must be in index.php not index.html
2. style.css file with valid codes and most important thing is you need to know wordpress theme development. https://developer.wordpress.org/themes/basics/template-files/ This will help you
I have a directory tree in which each folder contains (at this point) a single html file, all with the same name.
I would like to rename each file so that it has the name of its parent directory.
For example, change
A\B\file1.html
A\C\file1.html
A\C\D\file1.html
E\file1.html
to
A\B\B.html
A\C\C.html
A\C\D\D.html
E\E.html
I did see another similar post on a similar problem for mp3 files, but was unable to adapt it.
I am pretty much a novice at this - been trying to find a way using Notepad++ and the Windows Command Prompt window, but no real idea so far.
Any suggestions greatly appreciated.
Do you need to do this via code or do you just need an utility?
For bulk renaming of files I've been having a lot of luck using Bulk Rename Utility.

I would like to generate a bunch of static pages with my rails app, which then will be stored to the filesystem in order to be part of a build step in a yeoman webapp.
The filetypes would be JSON and HMTL.
Therefore I would like to know what would be the best solution for this problem. Fetching the site with Nokogiri or something similar, transform it to string and put it into a file. Or maybe write a rake task, which starts curl which then puts it into a file.
Or is there something build-in which can handle this type of problem?
Update:
I guess I have to make my goal clearer: I would like to build a website generator, which can export webpages and json to the local file system. In order to get fast response times and to use my existing build process I would like to generate those files and not serve them via rails.
Not sure what you're trying to do, but you might consider something like middleman. It's meant to generate static files, but you can still do ruby/rails like magic, etc.

I'm about to start writing a program which will attempt to extract data from a Google Code site so that it may be imported in to another project management site. Specifically, I need to extract the full issue detail from the site (description, comments, and so on).
Unfortunately Google don't provide an API for this, nor do they have an export feature, so to me the only option looks to be extracting the data from the actual HTML (yuck). Does any one have any suggestions on "best practice" from attempting to parse data out of HTML? I'm aware that this is less than ideal, but I don't think I have much choice. Can anyone else think of a better way, or maybe someone else has already done this?
Also, I'm aware of the CSV export feature on the issue page, however this does not give complete data about issues (but could be a useful starting point).
I just finished a program called google-code-export (hosted on Github). This allows you to export your Google Code project to an XML file, for example:
>main.py -p synergy-plus -s 1 -c 1
parse: http://code.google.com/p/synergy-plus/issues/detail?id=1
wrote: synergy-plus_google-code-export.xml
... will create a file named synergy-plus_google-code-export.xml.
